New York Islanders History

The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.

GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena

Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.

    Islanders kings

by Beanz on 2/28/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Only one thing wrong with this night... My team lost! But the new UBS arena was amazing. Great atmosphere. Very accessable transport links. Easy to get in with mobile tickets on phone from Ticketmaster. Team store is brilliant. View of the action was great. Quite expensive when you're there - 40 dollars for two pots of Mac n cheese, a coke and a can of beer but a sign of the times I guess. Will of course come back because love the team. LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!

    Game day

by Canuck on 2/12/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

New arena is spectacular. Great fans even towards the opposing team. A bit cumbersome arriving and departing.

All was great but leaving parking area.

by Bozz on 2/3/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Due to not having a parking pass, I was forced to use the parking garage. All I needed to do was get back on Hempstead Turnpike going west and I would have been home free for my 3 hour trip back upstate. I was directed the wrong way and it took an hour for me to get in the proper direction to get home. This was even with GPS assistance.

Great venue and seats. Not a lot of healthy choices to eat. The alcohol is very expensive so be prepared !!

    Habs lose to Islanders

by XtinaDmom2 on 1/17/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Venue is relatively easy to get to with good shuttles from the far lots. UBS Center is a beautiful building. Only major complaint is that 300 sections are freezing being just below the air systems. Could use some seat warmers up there!

    Don't Rush to go back

by PR on 1/2/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Traffic to UBS from western Suffolk was horrible. Parking and concession prices are high. Arena it's self is very nice.

    Now you’s can’t leave

by Deano on 1/1/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

First game at ubs for me, my son and some family after Santa left us tickets under the tree. Arena is awesome, staff, vibe, the whole experience inside was way above and beyond what I expected. But then it was time to go home and it was brutal. No lines or semblance of civility just a mob of people waiting for the shuttle bus to emerald lot which is pretty much only option if not a season or partial season ticket holder. We walked not realizing the distance with two tires 10 yr olds and my mom in her early 80’s. Figured the hassle was over once we got in the car. Nobody directing traffic or signs and figured the 35 min of not moving was because of crazy traffic on the cross island parkway. Nope just horrible planning and execution. Sucks it really took away from such a great time at the game

My 1st time ever @ UBS: 12/27/22 Isles vs Pens

by Bill on 12/31/22UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Unbeknownst to me, my friend that I went with had pre-paid for parking, which makes it easier to get through the parking gate. We chose Emerald parking, and was surprised to see that there was a 10 minute or so walk. I'm one of those who need the exercise, and the weather was conducive for walking. Went to the left from the Am Ex entrance, around the corner to a more main entrance. Very easy getting in, and it was good to have someone by the ticket scanner to make sure I could do it right without holding up others. My seats happened to be in a section right near that entrance, so i never really explored the entire concourse. Beer was in abundance, very easy to get without lines and even those serving at the counter seemed eager to want to serve us. Maybe not the best selection, but Labatt would do. (what was around in far upstate NY where i went to college). The men's bathroom was very clean, and there were still paper towels in at least one of the dispensers at game's end. The arena itself was very clean. I wore old shoes, thinking I might be stepping on a sticky floor at some point, but that was not the case. A half hour getting out of the parking lot, and half hour getting home once out of the parking lot, via good signs/directions to exit the parking area and get us on the CIP northbound. Very convenient having the area right off the CIP, and especially not having to share eastbound parkways with the usual mob of traffic coming home from working in the city or points west. The Islanders beat the Penguins in a game we were at for a change. Usually my friend's Penguins win when we've gone to Nassau Coliseum. 2 things I noticed kind of on the sad side. They didn't invite kids to ride on the zamboni, as my son was fortunate enough to do when he was 10 and it was an Islander playoff game vs Washington @ Nassau. Also, my friend and I were kind of bummed that they didn't have the crew they used to have @ Nassau of young beautiful girls in nice Islanders outfits taking care of the ice during breaks. That used to add to the enjoyment of being at the game.

    Great fun at usb arena

by Spidey on 12/13/22UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Great seats, better sight lines than Barclays center, better experience than Barclays center!!! Only complaint is cost of LIRR train from NYC to arena. Having bus shuttle to arena from parking lot and back again is a big plus!
