New York Islanders History

The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.

GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena

Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.

    Too expensive!

by GB on 10/18/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

The arena is nice and very glad for hot water in the sinks. But parking was $42! Food is also outrageously priced. Also need to wear a hat and sweater to survive the a/c blowing down from above (3rd section). I also didn't appreciate the constant phone calls, texts and emails from the ticket group (from different people) trying to sell me a package through the week prior to the game. The game itself was great!

Great venue and electric atmosphere! This was my first time and I have been in several NHL arenas, UBS is doing things right!

    Best Arena Ever!

by The Freakin Rican on 10/9/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Best experience at an Arena that I've ever experienced. UBS is on another level. MSG, Barclay's & Prudential need to take notes. I will be back soon. My only complaint are the prices. 2 sodas & 2 slices of pizza cost $49.00. Ridiculous.

    Wonderful Night

by Family Time on 10/3/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

My family of four enjoyed the preseason game between the Islanders and Rangers Saturday night. It was very exciting! They were even waiting for Taylor Swift to arrive which was hysterical! Great time will be back soon!

The atmosphere was electric to start the game.

by Sia on 4/26/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

All UBS staff and he Islander's sales team were very excited and courteous. The food and beverage offerings and the team doing the work were enthusiastic and we really enjoyed the venue experience. We were hopeful that the team would win another playoff game. Did not end up that way, but the take aways were an amazing experience nonetheless. Thank you.

    Limited view :(

by Court on 4/26/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

We had section 204, row 5 seats 18 and 19. We had to stand the whole time because of the rail obstruction

    Parking/ shuttle/ walk

by Orange power on 4/24/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

UBS needs to speed up the parking egress. Its too far, shuttles are to slow. Once you finally get to your car you cant get out be ace the vehicles leaving the Emerald lot must cross paths with pedestrians and shuttle busses. There should be pedestrian tunnels or overpass to elevate traffic. Need more bathrooms by section 231 like section 109.

    Great arena & entertaining hockey!

by David L on 4/19/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

UBS arena is a great addition to the greater NYC sports scene and the Islanders are an entertaining team and the organization puts on an amazing show. Plenty of food choices, easy to get around and one of the best stores anywhere in the NHL. Lots of 50th anniversary merchandise. Would highly recommend this team and arena.

    Islanders

    by D. R. on 3/24/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

The game is good whether the Islanders win or lose, they always play a good game. The problem is off the ice. First with the promotion nights, not everyone is able to get the promotional item, some people get more than 1, there appear to be different rules for different fans and that’s not fair. Second, as the season has gone on, the staff have become noticeably less hospitable like us paying to be there is an inconvenience to them (only exception is Shaq’s Chicken, their staff has been A+ every time). Overall, not the experience someone is looking for when trying to have a fun night.

    Ny islanders game

    by V. M. on 3/19/23

This place is nuts . The fans bring this place to it feet. No place is like ubs arena . We go to about 10-15 games a yr. It’s not the Colosseum but for fans it rocks. Good food drinks but it’s expensive for families.

    First time to USB

by Zman on 3/15/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Having the outer parking lot on the other side of a full-size thoroughbred horse racetrack makes walking to the arena a challenge but the shuttle buses make the experience a bit easier to take. Unfortunately, the long wait for the buses at the end of the game could be quite uncomfortable during bad winter weather. The arena is alive, bright, wide, and clean. The sound (music and PA) is wonderfully subdued and the scoreboards are completely devoid of needless statistics. The Islanders did this one right.

    Exceptional from start to finish

by Rudy and Judy on 3/7/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Travel to UBS by the LIRR was quick and easy. Got to Elmont station and coach buses were waiting to take us to the arena. Facilty was beautiful and well laid out and very staff member we interacted with was pleasant and helpful, from the ticket takers, security, food service and people directing us to our seats. When the game was over the same coach buses were lined up waiting for the trip (about 5 min) back to the train, and the train arrived about 10 min later. Great experience all around, and the Islanders won!!!!
