This isn't even worth one star. I am disgusted that I wasted my time and money because this was the most poorly organized event I've ever been to. DON'T GO.
We went with another couple, so 4 of us in total. We bought tickets for the 9pm queue, understanding that this didn't mean we would get in AT 9pm. That is the biggest understatement, however, as we were in line for 3.5 HOURS. Yes that's right, we did not reach the front of the line until 12:30am (technically the next day.)
A woman who worked there kept pushing everyone to purchase/upgrade to the $50 "VIP" Tickets that supposedly let you skip the long line us fools were waiting in. I'd have to say anyone who did so were the bigger fools, though, because they soon found out what a waste of money it was. The VIP line did not move much faster than the regular line!
At about the 2.5 hour mark, the annoying looping music and string lights above us suddenly cut out. Nobody knew what was going on, and nobody who worked there (which seemed like all of 5 people) gave us any information. I came to find out through TWITTER that a generator had blown. We spent the next hour in cold, dark silence. It was so late at that point that everyone was cranky but we had all stuck it out that long so turning back was not an option.
Finally, at 12:30am, we reached the front of the line. I asked the person taking our tickets how long the ride was. He assured me each ride was 35 minutes in full. Now, I know this is a hayride, but the 50 of us left in line were literally dumped into the back of a flatbed tractor with scratchy hay on the floor, not bales of hay to sit on. We were sitting on the bed of this truck smushed up against each other. We also so happened to be sitting on the right side of the truck so as we went through the ride, had to turn around uncomfortably and strain our necks to see what was going on behind us, since everything seemed to happen on the right side.
As for the ride itself, I feel bad for the actors who had been out there all night. They did a good job of committing to scaring people, but it wasn't even that scary. All they can do is come up against the sides of the truck and bang on it. You see them coming as you're pulling up to each "scene" so the scare/surprise factor is gone. There was too much time in between each scene as you ride over. I've been to truly excellent haunted houses before and this was lazy.
I set a timer on my phone as soon as the ride began because I was pissed off at that point...what do you know, the entire thing took 21 minutes. So I waited 3.5 hours in line for a 21 minute uncomfortable, mediocre scare.
The scariest part of the night was probably standing on the corner in Harlem, waiting for the M35 bus that never showed up. Or perhaps the $20 cab ride just to get over the bridge to Randall's Island and being dropped off in the dark with no signs leading to the attraction. Quite a toss up.
TLDR; This was a humongous waste of time and money. Not even that scary. Big ripoff, zero communication from anyone working there to acknowledge problems. Save it and go somewhere else. The fact that they got money on Shark Tank for this just leads me to believe the show is fake because this is a poor investment, Mark Cuban!
