  • Amazing!

by BluePhoenix on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The crowd got too heavy towards the end, but with such an amazing lineup, it was to be expected. All the bands performed amazingly. It was just an amazing evening of great fun with great music in a great location.

  • Coldplay was great, everything else was just ok

    by nolagirl622 on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

The beer selection was awful. Who really wants to drink bud light from a 24 ounce can? Only one Sweetwater truck??? Really???? Bad plan. The line was so long to get there why.....no one wants to drink bud lightfor a 24 ounce (or any size) can. The lines for the bathrooms were way too long. 50,000 people drinking very large cans of beer means more bathrooms are needed. The food selection was good. The Constellations and the Postelles were ok, the black keys and Coldplay were great. All the bands in between sucked and their singing amounted to screaming at best. I would say overall D- for the day and I would not go back next year. The best part of the entire day was the weather.

  • LOVED Young the Giant, The Black Keys and Coldplay

  • A sucessful Fest!

by AnotherDisappointedOK on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I especially appreciated the opportunity to hear so many bands in one venue. The selections were outstanding, and I only didn’t care for one band. I attribute that more to personal preference rather than any “fault” of the organizers. I loved the artistry and energetic interplay that The Black Keys demonstrated. Cage the Elephant’s raw energy, especially the vocalist, just pulled the whole crowd along. And Coldplay’s media, light and pyrotechnic show complimented their outstanding performance and capped the night perfectly. (I was disappointed that they didn’t play until 11:00 pm as scheduled.) By highlighting the last few bands, I don’t mean to lesson the contribution of the earlier performances. I’ve already purchased music from The Joy Formidable and Young the Giant, and am borrowing a CD of Walk the Moon to explore. These are all new bands for me. I consider that a successful Festival!

What more could you ask for? Great music, great beer & food, amazing atmosphere, fabulous space in the park, and a spectacular view of Midtown's skyline!

  • Good job

by TRBell on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Love the fact that the number of stages were limited. Made it easier to see who I wanted to see. Awesome time, beautiful weather.

  • Too many underage, pushy teens for 5 stars

by lhool on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

The acts were incredible, as were the sound and stages. My only issue was the amount of young, really young, kids there since the festival didn't have a minimum age requirement, as most other outdoor fests do. Most of the youngsters were poorly behaved and pushy in the crowds which made us 30 somethings very frustrated. Besides having an age requirement at future Midtowns, I'd also suggest more food options, particularly for vegetarians. Music fests often draw us veggies out and the only option for dining that I was able to find was a veggie pita, which coincidentally had the largest line by far. Having said all of that, if they keep attracting such great music acts as this year's, I'd still go again

  • There are no words to describe Coldplay live!!!!

  • Need to go back to the days of old.....

by LocalKev on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

Great, great thing that Music Midtown was brought back to the city this year. For that, I thank everyone involved. And as an avid music fan, I was pleased with the bigger names in the line-up (Man O, Black Keys, Coldplay), but not so much with the smaller name bands. I am a huge proponent of indie music and local talent, but I feel there were far more rising stars that would have been easy to book and more attractive to ticket buyers. All that being said, I can say with confidence that 80% of my friends did not attend the event because a) they attended Music Midtown when it was a 3 day event and thought it lacked luster as a glorified festival of only one day, b) they were not familiar with anyone in the line-up with the exception of Coldplay and local heroes, the Constellations, and c) the $70 price tag after fees for a one day festival with bands they never heard of was too much to bear. Not my opinion.....but was for others. I attended because live music is my passion, and I don't like missing the big "to-do" events because I think it's important for our city as a musical hotbed and a cultural hub. BUT, I too think it needs to revert to its original format of 2 or 3 days to be recognized as something worth doing....and I think the line-up needs to be more comprehensive than it was this year. Good time regardless, great venue, great city....great set by Coldplay. Other than that, need to step it up. Kevin Atlanta, GA

  • Time of Our Lives

by Jobaggadonutz on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I was a bit nervous at first as I was taking my 2 teenage children to their 1st outdoor music festival. The thought of sending them out on their own into a Sea of 50 thousand people was overwhelming ,to say the least. However the crowd was Awesome. The Layout so easy to navigate, and plenty of landmarks to set up meeting/rendezvous places. We had the time of our lives. And now, according to my Kids, I'm the Coolest Dad EVER. Thanks Music Midtown

  • Coldplay jipped us!

by njinatl on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

Didn't even bother staying till 11 like the festival schedule indicated they would.

  • High Energy in A Mud Bog

by convoyhelm on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Despite the overwhelming crowd & terrible foot conditions (mud, mud, and more mud), the concerts were high energy and worthwhile. Coldplay ended about 20 mins. early but, other than that, a fun time in the park.

  • Great Venue and Show

by Anonymous on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great. Piedmont is a fantastic venue and everything was very well organized.

  • Perfection.

by Ebizzz on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I didn't even care if we stayed for coldplay. I wanted to see the other bands that I already loved. However, I would go to another coldplay concert any second. They really love what they do and love their fans. They had so much energy and put a ton of effort in to making it an unforgettable experience. Plus they took the stage to 99 problems by jay Z. Such a great night.

  • Joy Formidable was awesome!

    by jbug21 on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Just wanted to say that the band from North Whales, Joy Formidable, was the belle of the ball. Absolutely fantastic! I have not been in love with a band like this in a while!

  • Great show! Coldplay was amazing!

    by bjg222 on 9/26/11PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I live right on the park, so having the festival be literally out my back door was great! I enjoyed Walk the Moon, who I'd never heard of before, so was happy to discover new bands. Young the Giant also gave a great performance. While I was less than thrilled with Cage the Elephant's set, I enjoyed it nonetheless. Coldplay was obviously the highlight of the night, giving and amazing performance. I was short, though. The schedule said they'd play till 11, but they left the stage at 10:15. They came back for an encore, but still only played til 10:35. All in all, though, a great show. The event was well organized and not over crowded. There was plenty of food, and I was very happy that they allowed re-entry so that I could come and go as I wanted (allowing me to head home to skip bands I wasn't really interested in). Overall, I would say my only criticism was the Coldplay's show was so short!
