  • This Fest Needs Work

by MollyTank on 9/26/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

This is my third time attending Music Midtown. I went years back when it was held in a different location, and I have attended the past two years at Piedmont Park. I must say that this festival needs a lot of work to make it a great experience. I spent more time in lines than I did seeing music both years. The entry gates are not sufficient for pumping thousands of people into the park, thus I missed two shows I got there EARLY to see because I was stuck outside the gates in line. Once in, the beer lines were very long and the drinks are very overpriced for a festival. If you even think you may have to use the porta potty, go ahead and get in line. I have NEVER waited so long to use a porta potty before, it was insane. I missed at least half of almost every show waiting in line to use the restroom...seriously, with people drinking that much beer, there were not near enough porta pottys. I heard people were basically peeing all over the place because the lines were so long. Gross. Also, sound bleed from the stages was bad, and overall sound for a few shows was not loud enough. I have been to festivals where there are 4 bands playing at different stages and you cannot hear any bleed whatsoever. Overall, this festival has potential because they seem to have pretty decent line-ups, but the experience outside of the actual music is so horrible that it will keep me from coming back. I have been to more festivals than I can count on my hands, some of the largest in the country, and this is by far the most disorganized one I have ever been to thus far. If the organizers would actually listen to feedback from patrons, they could have a nice fest, but for now, I recommend saving your money or putting it towards a better, more organized festival.

  • Great Two Day Festival

    by DBG69 on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Great 2 day festival, I traveled for this one from DC. Definitely worth the trip considering the line-up. lots of things to do in between your favorite bands including a Ferris wheel. I also liked the varies food options including vegetarian options, which was great for someone like me who can't eat meat. Liked the addition of a third stage as well. It made the the main stage areas less packed. Complaints: Some of the Saturday bands should have played Friday. Alot of the bands schedules conflicted Sat, so I was unable to see all the bands I wanted. On Saturday it rained the whole day, so most of us were covered in mud. It would have been decent for the venue to keep the sprinklers on to at least wash our shoes off. I felt really rude boarding the train with hundreds of others covered in mud.

  • Music Midtown 2013

by jessicaarenastv on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Music Midtown 2013 was an awesome festival. It was my first time, but I am looking forward to making it a tradition and go again next year!

  • Cake was amazing!

by shunnuna on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Friday it wasn't raining and I was in line an hour before the doors opened and got inside in less than 5 minutes. Had a hard time finding the Roxy stage but found it using the music midtown phone app, though none of the vendors I talked to seemed to know where it was. The Mowgli's are amazing performers even though I know little about their music. I am madly in love with Cake; no disappointments. Saturday was raining and my ticket dissolved by the end of the night, so I'm glad I didn't try to re-enter. Entering took at least 30 minutes even though I was in about the same place in line as on Friday. Some bathrooms that were available on Friday were restricted to the handicapped on Saturday, and I spent at least 30 minutes waiting in line to go each time (at least 3 times... I have a tiny bladder and only had two beers and a coke)... barely ever any toilet paper or hand sanitizer available... so I missed most of Reignwolf, who was the main person I wanted to see that day... and Imagine Dragons... left Kendrick Lamar (Roxy Stage) 30 minutes early trying to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers when they started, but also had to go to the bathroom again... so I was far back in the crowd, where I was relying more on the people ahead of me to sing me the song than the Chili Peppers, and I think I saw the screen for maybe 30 seconds. (I'm not even 5 feet tall.) I love the Chili Peppers, but I left at 10:30 out of disappointment... I couldn't tell if they had walked off the stage or not... It was strange because I could hear Journey on Friday from down the street after I left the park.

  • Music Midtown was the best!

    by Rocky84 on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The bands were great! Capital Cities is a fun act to see. I wish them much success! Imagine Dragons was excellent. Overall, Music Midtown was freaking awesome! Enough said.

It was extremely disappointing that upon arriving in Midtown, it took us over 2 hours to enter the park.I completely missed the one band I was looking most forward to seeing, even though we arrived in plenty of time. There should have been a better backup plan. Rain had been forecasted for the entire week prior. My daughter and friend were thrilled with the Imagine Dragons performance and I am thankful they managed to see them. The food choices were disappointing to say the least. It seems there were more alcohol tents than food tents. I couldn't find any portable sinks near the portapots. It's pretty gross to not have a place to wash hands all day. I didn't see a security person until late in the day. Way too much smoking going on.

  • Love this Festival!

    by Milner333 on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

We will continue to go back to this festival year after year. The location is great, the variety of music gives all the members of our family something they like, and the the vendors are fantastic. The rain this year was a downer and the line to get in was a big problem. I missed one of the bands I wanted to see while I stood in a line 3 blocks long in the pouring rain waiting to get in. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and blame the rain.

  • 2012 Was Better!

    by CateCateCate13 on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

As a teacher, I will do for you what I do for my students....2 grows and a glow! 1. Three stages. Boo. You had to leave one band early to find a spot for the next band. Being able to chill on the hill last year was SO much cooler!! That was the one thing that made you guys stand out over all the other outdoor "hike a mile to the next stage" concerts. I feel like it was just to sell more tickets, therefore overcrowding the event. Boo you. 2. Variety. Oh wait, I meant LACK of variety. You managed to throw in some rap, but otherwise the bands were all something you might hear playing on the same station. Last year seemed to have a lot more variety in styles of music. Oh and like last year (TI being the exception) the "performance" by 2chainz was not worth the price on the ticket. I could go up there and yell "yeah! what! come on y'all!" better then he did. I'm pretty sure the hype man did most of the work. I know, not your problem, but maybe book a hip hop artist with talent. And it was kind of a dick move to interrupt Drivin' and Cryin' in their final song. For realz. And your GROW! :D Thank you for fixing the sound! It was much better than last year! So even if you had to hear your favorite band from 5 miles behind the crowd 'cause you didn't leave the other stage early enough, at least it was good quality sound!

  • Music Midtown always great.

by WJayR on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Another year with another fantastic Music Midtown experience. There was only one issue with this line up that had me making a hard decision. I'm talking about choosing between Cake and Jane's Addiction. I would have loved to have seen both but unfortunately they were playing at the same time. I used the App on my phone to keep track of the bands and which stage they were on. Excellent to have that since I didn't see a list on site. Great bands, seems like there were plenty of port o potties and food and beverage stations. Capital Cities was a surprising great concert, imagine dragons, weezer and tegan and Sara were also stand out bands. Journey brought it Friday night to a fantastic closeand Red hot chili pepped closed it terrifically on Saturday night. It's amazing being in a crowd of thousands singing along and feeling the energy. Despite the Saturday rain it was crazy fun! Can't wait for next year.

I had a great time. It's my first festival and it was definitely unforgettable.

  • Best concert ever.

by Anonymous on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Music Midtown encapsulated everything I want in a concert. The musicians were a great blend of classics and newcomers, and I knew of all the bands I saw. The food was overpriced and average, and I actually missed most of Imagine Dragons getting a fairly average gyro. Going to the bathroom meant waiting in DMV-worthy lines for a less than desirable porta-potty. Alcohol was overpriced and last but not least, I think we, as a crowd, irreparably damaged Piedmont Park. But the people! Those who stayed, who persisted throughout the rain and the cold, made the concert unforgettable. We embraced the mud, rain, and wind as a manifestation of the nasty conditions of a music festival and we worked it. To those who ditched their mud-entrenched flip-flops to walk barefoot, who stripped off their shirts to display their six-packs, and who slid across stretches of mud like children in the summertime, I salute you. When I danced with you to the serenade of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, we were all the same, identical pieces of one thriving, throbbing crowd, and I loved you as you loved me. Tomorrow, or maybe the next day, I will pass you on the street and we will not recognize each other. Each wrapped up in the daily routine of our lives, we can't become temporary comrades again. Or at least, not until next year.

  • It was awesome

by lefthandedbears on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The whole event went really well. Pretty close to the train and plenty of space. One thing that is always a problem of course is the number of bathrooms. Right near the front stage where the most people gather there could have been more toilets but other than that it was awesome

  • Red Hot and Jane's Rock!!!

by Toshio on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

everything perfect except for the lack of bathrooms

  • Complete waste of money!!

    by Rica101 on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

I bought tickets for both days, and after being herded through Piedmont Park on Friday, my boyfriend and I decided not to go back on Saturday. I tried to sell the tickets, but they were e-tickets and nobody wanted them. We could barely hear Cake, and the other stages' sounds were conflicting with each other. We waited 45 mins for some bar-b-que and 20 mins for lemonade. 45 min wait to use a disgusting port-a potty. I will never again pay to go to Music Midtown! It was horrible!

  • by Anonymous on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Having front row spots to The Neighbourhood, Weezer, Imagine Dragons and middle area spot to the Red Hot Chili Peppers was incredible. Definitely worth the money, and will for sure be attending Music Midtown next year!

  • Fantastic!

by Anonymous on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The whole event was SO much fun! The Yeah Yeah Yeahs put on the best performance I've seen in years. If the line up is as good as this years, I'd go back every year!

  • Not a Great Year

by jkpi on 9/25/13PIEDMONT PARK - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

I have been to several Music Midtowns over the last 14 years. I have been to all three that have been held at Piedmont Park. The previous two at Piedmont Park were fantastic. This year...not so much. The entire weekend was spent standing in lines. I arrived at 2:00 on Saturday and missed all of Capital Cities due to an hour wait to get in. Since I missed them I decided to get a beer and go to the bathroom. By 5:00 I had seen one song performed but stood in three lines within a three hour time period. Ridiculous! Friday wasn't too different. Thanks to the massive amount of teenagers present the beer lines are short and awesome. Perhaps throw a corndog stand in between every beer stand to ease up on the ridiculous food lines. More bathrooms and food not in a main narrow walk way would be lovely too. I was excited about a third stage, but the area was smaller and it didn't have any jumbotrons so it was hard to see for packed performances (Kendrick Lamar). If you're going to have more stages I recommend doing it like the "real Music Midtown" where each stage plays its own genre. That way there isn't a mass of humanity trying to move from one stage to the next after each performance. That could help with crowd control in a big way. The lineup this year was so-so. I'd love to see some more diversity. I listen to alternative and hip hop music the most (yes, I know, strange) but it may be nice to throw a country artist or two in there. Overall, this year was the worst Music Midtown I've attended, and that has nothing to do with the weather.
