About

Motörhead is an iconic British rock band, originally formed in 1975 and still going strong. Their original sound, hard work and creative musical development have seen them become one of the world's most renowned rock bands, with a vast fan base across the globe.
The band was originally formed by Ian Fraser Kilmister in 1975. He's more popularly known as Lemmy and is the singer, songwriter and bassist for the band. In a changing line-up, Lemmy has remained the only constant member throughout Motörhead's 35 year history. Other band members include — or have included — Brian Robertson, Larry Wallis, 'Fast' Eddie Clarke, Lucas Fox, Peter Gill, Mikkey Dee, Wurzel, Phil Campbell and Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor.
The band's influences are diverse, and they are considered to be one of the first members of British heavy metal's new wave movement, which brought a fresh sound and approach to the musical genre between the late seventies and the early eighties. Although the band is typically associated with the heavy metal genre, their sound is unique and they are known for creating their own groundbreaking "fusion" sound of punk-led rock, along with sounds that pioneered early thrash and speed metal. Lemmy has often said that he feels more influence with punk rock than with heavy metal. Their sound has remained authentic to their roots over the years, and their fan base has grown accordingly. They have well over a million likes on Facebook alone. They have collaborated with Girlschool and the Plasmatics, among others.
Their career has seen Motörhead release over 21 studio albums, along with 12 compilations, 10 live albums and 5 EP releases. The most successful chart success for this power trio was during the early ‘80s, when they had a number of singles in the Top 40 charts. One of their most successful singles – and one that crossed over into mainstream appreciation – was “ Ace of Spades,” released in 1980. Some of their most beloved albums include the Ace of Space, Overkill, Bomber, Aftershock, The World is Yours, Kiss of Death and No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. They have sold over 30 million albums across the world and toured extensively across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia – often returning to their UK roots when they can. They have also played at a variety of festivals, including Reading and Leeds and European events.

    At least it was loud

by nomadicsnail on 3/27/11First Avenue - Minneapolis

First off I'm not a Motorhead fan. Of course I know Ace of Spades and Eat the Rich but I don't listen to Motorhead, I went to see the second act Clutch. The opener was Valiant Thor. I had never heard of them and wasn't sure what I was in for when they took the stage but they put on an intense, sweat soaked show with a contagious energy. It was obvious they were there to rock and I would definitely go see them again. Clutch was awesome as always and they played a good mix of new and old, I just wish they had played longer but they weren't headlining. The sound for the first 2 bands was great with the vocals clear, the bass and drums distinct and the guitar not overwhelming. When Motorhead took the stage the sound fell apart. It was muffled and murky and tried to compensate in volume for what it was lacking in balance. I tried to get into the show but after 4 songs of Lemmy constantly goading the crowd to be louder I left.

    Motorhead was, well, Motorhead

by BigBinNJ on 3/21/11Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

Everything I expected. Valient Thorr and Clutch were very good opening acts and had a good fan base at the show. Motorhead as the headliner didn't disappoint. Loud, brash and just what I expected. Had a great time, actually went with my best friend and nephew and they were blown away. If you're going to see Motorhead WEAR EARPLUGS because they are ear-splitting loud.

    Long Live Heavy Metal!

by TheBigBurrito on 3/17/11Club Nokia - Los Angeles

This was an incredible show. Valient Thor opened the show up- despite the lead singer's sometimes weird stage antics and the band's contrived outfits, the singer's voice kicked arse, and the band rocked. Their set contained fast, heavy tracks- sounding like a hybrid of DRI and Suicidal Tendencies. Clutch was up next ... yawn. All their songs were boring. When Motorhead took the stage, things got heavy. The guys blazed through old and new songs, with furious vengeance. The whole place was rocking, with heads banging all around. There was a 10 minute drum solo that was pretty wild as well.

Motorhead great! Club Nokia not so good.

by towniet on 3/15/11Club Nokia - Los Angeles

No one notified me that in order to get in the pit area you need to be one of the 1st hundred through the door. Still getting there early my friends and I were denied to be close with no warning on any websites. Having to watch from the back is no fun, bad sound and views. Too much security giving you no room to breathe. Venue is cool other than those things.

Friday night. Nokia. LA. Motorhead. What could be better. Final US concert for a while and Lemmy and the boys rocked it! Brought it! You feel a Motorhead concert and this one was felt massively. From the opening We are Motorhead to the encore Overkill it was flat out audio assault of he finest kind. See them if you can, see them if you dare but remember they play rock and roll and they play it LOUD and FAST

    Motorhead forever!

by Kevo25 on 3/13/11Club Nokia - Los Angeles

This show was one of the best straight-ahead rock shows I've seen in awhile. Valient Thorr was great as usual, playing their party-metal with trademark gusto. Clutch played way too long and the crowd was definitley getting impatient during their set. I've never liked Clutch, but they still seemed out of place. Motorhead killed it, easily the loudest show I've ever been to (And I've seen Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Slayer!). My only gripe is that Lemmy's mic seemed turned up too high and his voice was getting distorted. But in the end, an awesome show at an awesome venue

All three bands Clutch, Valant Thor, and Motorhead played very well. Lemmy had the amps turned up after the second song. Very loud.

    Motorhead Rocks ! Nokia Sucks!!!

by Philty on 3/13/11Club Nokia - Los Angeles

Motorhead Rocks ! Nokia Sucks!!! I Love Motorhead, i would got see them in any place, but the Nokia Theatre is the biggest rip off!!!!! Everything is overpriced in that place ,$15 to $20 dollars to park, Metal detectors ( which i can cope with) $10 beer minimum, crappy sound, crappy location, big pillars that block your view of the stage. It is the worst place to go see a rock'n roll show, I will not go back to the Nokia ever !!!!!!!!

    Motorhead still rocks!!

by Joseff on 3/13/11Club Nokia - Los Angeles

For an opening act, Valient Thorr kicked ass. Great sound, great energy, just great from start to end for Valient Thorr. Clutch on the other hand, not so great. Didn't really enjoy their music, it sounded bland for a metal show. I would definitely not watch them again and its the only reason this review is 4/5 stars. Motorhead was everything i hoped for and more. They rocked faster and louder than all the bands I've ever seen, I loved it. Motorhead forever!

    Motorhead never dissapoints

by tyfortheshow on 3/13/11Club Nokia - Los Angeles

I last saw Motorhead 25 years ago, my husband sees them everytime they are anywhere in So CA. They still kick ass after all these years. Happy to see amongst all the tried and true fans alongside so many new ones. Motorhead was relevant 30 years ago and they are just as relevant today.

You can't go wrong with Motorhead

by msrp on 3/10/11Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

This was my 3rd Motorhead show, and it was unbeatable. The guys rocked the place like you expect from the band this caliber. There were two songs from The World Is Yours album, and a good mix of older songs. Motorhead is loud! My ears were ringing for a day after the concert. On the side note, I am not a fan of Clutch at all, I wouldn't pay a dime to see them on their own, but some people in the crowd seemed to like them.
