MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK IN CONCERT:

Since bursting onto the scene in the early '00s with the rollicking single "The Future Freaks Me Out", pop punk rockers Motion City Soundtrack have continually impressed fans and critics alike with their shout-along hooks, punchy drums, and battling guitars. In concert frontman Justin Pierre belts out emo-tinged, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with his signature falsetto, infusing each song with raw emotion that's perfectly complemented by the band's infectious exuberance. Especially entertaining is keyboardist Jesse Johnson, who hops over his keys, cranks out the cowbell, and mans the moog synthesizer, which has become a staple of the band's sound. Known for bringing their “A” game whenever they hit the stage, Motion City Soundtrack fervently perform fan favorites like "Everything Is Alright”, "L.G. FUAD” and “My Favorite Accident” along with recent hits “Her Words Destroyed My Planet” and “True Romance" at their crowd-pleasing live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Former high school friends Joshua Cain and Justin Pierre formed Motion City Soundtrack in Minneapolis in 1997. After multiple lineup changes, the band finally solidified in 2002 with the addition of bassist Matt Taylor, drummer Tony Thaxton, and keyboardist Jesse Johnson. Later that year they dropped their debut album I Am The Movie, which was re-released a year later by Epitaph Records after the breakout success of single "The Future Freaks Me Out". Their sophomore album, 2005's Commit This To Memory, was produced by Blink 182 bassist Matt Hoppus and boasted the hit single "Everything is Alright". Over the next few years the band toured extensively, both as a headlining act and as an opener on Blink 182's 2009 world tour, where they brought venues like Aztec Theatre to capacity. They made their major label debut in 2010 with My Dinosaur Life -- an edgier, more experimental album released on Columbia Records -- but they returned to Epitaph for 2012's Go. With their highly anticipated Commit This To Memory 10 Year Anniversary Tour slated for 2015, ticket buyers are jumping at the chance to see these veteran indie rockers in concert.

  • A-Ok

Amazing. I have nothing else to say, it was amazing.

  • Poor venue choice

by Matchbox on 1/13/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Been seeing them since TLA. This venue was a poor choice for them. Smallest stage I’ve ever seen them on. Also seemed like they weren’t given a sound check as they started with terrible audio. Hopefully they don’t get stuck at the Brooklyn Bowl again.

  • Great Concert!

    by ashley13 on 1/13/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

They put on a great show and have great energy! Nice small venue so you could be close to the band. Don't miss your chance to see them!!

  • A Rainy Night, made it all that better

by Zamir on 1/12/24Warsaw - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen MCS almost every time they've come around to my area since their reunion, and they always deliver a fun, different experience every time. Shout out to Gully Boys, as well, the openers, they're were really good, and hopefully get more exposure this year, they really deserve it. As for MSC, this was a bit different show, it being a 20th anniversary show and all. The Nostalgia was deep for this one, but also felt new. They stepped up their stage production, with the big screens. I hope to see what they offer next.

  • They still got it

by lwnyc on 1/12/24Warsaw - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! These guys still sound amazing and bring that early 2000's punk/emo/rock energy. I only wish it could have been longer!

  • Motion City Soundtrack at Buckhead Theatre ROCKED!

by IamYOUareMEtoo on 1/10/24Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Perfect first show of the new year! MCS was soo good. Buckhead Theatre was very nice.

  • Fun. But not as good as last tour

by Martyd on 1/10/24Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The guys still put on a good show but it was not as good as the last tour. Mostly because they concentrated on the anniversary of the first album "I am the movie"with a few hits thrown in, rather than the more successful and better known tracks from their next two albums "Commit this to Memory"& "Even if it kills me". I think the crowd was there to hear their hits rather than performance of their first album. So in that sense it was a bit disappointing but still fun.

  • Always a good time at Buckhead Theater

    by Cdaniel4 on 1/10/24Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack is always an excellent show and Buckhead theater is a great place to see them!

  • Best Christmas Gift Ever!

    by Omaris on 1/8/24Saint Andrew's Hall - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I actually got the tickets for my wife for Christmas with a group of close friends. Not only was the opening band (Gully Boys) absolutely incredible but so was the main stars of the show. They clearly were having just as much as we all did and I absolutely loved every second of it! Even if you aren’t even a fan (cant relate) both shows were amazing and the band has a great way of just pulling you into this amazing concert experience!

  • Great show, long intermissions

by Amber on 1/3/24Uptown Theater Minneapolis - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Had a great time! My only complaint would be the 30 minutes of intermission between bands. It just killed the energy. I understand needing time to reset the stage but this just seemed excessive. Other than that, nice venue, liked the way it was set up. The staff I encountered were pleasant and respectful.

  • MCS on NYE!

by LeighBlack on 1/3/24Uptown Theater Minneapolis - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Celebrating New Year's Eve with one of my favorite bands was a blast! Haven't seen them in a while and they did not disappoint. This almost brand new venue was great! Looking forward to seeing more shows there.

  • Best show of my life

  • Great show

by kmv on 9/14/22House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Smooth getting in and out and everyone was nice. Could not wait to be there for this concert and it did not disappoint.

  • What a stellar show, the venue was cool, bands killed it!

by Emiline on 9/7/22Aztec Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

We had a lovely time at the Motion City Soundtrack show. We saw a comedian as one of the openers which was a first for all of us! He slayed. The venue is BEAUTIFUL. The smoker patio was neat and had a view of the Riverwalk. BUT BEWARE, we paid about $20 with tip for a tallboy beer/seltzer. Water was about $5.

  • Great except for

by Jaxx on 9/7/22House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 4 out of 5

I was in the back settled away from the crowd. A man straight up tumbled hard to the ground with a near miss with throwing all of his body weight onto me, because he was so intoxicated that he couldn't evaluate where the extremely clear walkway to the bathroom was. I understand it's fun to enjoy shows with party favors or drinks, but security really needs to remove people like this when they are a danger not only to themselves but to others. They're just a liability to everyone else's fun, and no one seemed to care about his safety. I feel like this is a venue's responsibility to serve those around them well. Your bartenders were located in areas where they could've seen this and discontinued service along with removing someone who was this unsafe to be around other people. The show was a really great experience to feel some high school nostalgia, but I definitely have a different lens on what the correct and respectful community behavior is at a show in adulthood.

  • You have to see Motion City Soundtrack

by Jess on 9/6/22Aztec Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Getting into the venue was easy, no hassle and the staff were friendly. I've never had a bad experience at the Aztec Theater, and that night was no different. Venue is always ventilated and it's brings a comfortable experience. MCS were amazing. Sound was good for me, I had no issue hearing them clear.

  • Amazing show

by Anonymous on 9/6/22Aztec Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

I've been waiting years to see MCS and they did not disappoint. Played basically all the hits, plus Commit This to Memory start to finish. They can really rock live, too. Great energy. Only downside was the most expensive concert beers I've ever had.
