    Fun and Slightly Bawdy Humor

by daburnie on 3/12/17McMorran Place Sports and Entertainment Center - Port Huron

My wife and I attended the opening night of Spamalot. While I had an inkling of the kind of show we were about to see, my wife had never seen even a Monty Python skit and was unsure about whether she would enjoy the show. She was soon laughing in her seat as play progressed. Arthur and Patsy were well teamed. And Jordan Frontiero's performance during "Not Dead Fred" and as the prince were certainly highlights of the show. A glitch with a prop on a flying character only added to this raucous show. I would highly recommend this show to anyone who wants an affordable night out and needs a good laugh to take home.

Great play for Monty Python fans

This is a mix of material from the Holy Grail and new songs. It works surprizingly well.

    Spamalot was fun!

by Draughty on 11/23/16Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I have always enjoyed Monty Python since they first appeared many years ago. I wanted to see the musical since it had gotten good reviews on Broadway. I thought this cast did a great job; the time went quickly, the jokes were fun, and the costumes very lovely.

    What A Hoot!

by GoValGal on 11/22/16Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I must confess that I've only seen bits and pieces of the Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie, so I wasn't sure if I would totally understand this musical. Thankfully it did not require any prior knowledge. The British humor was quick and very funny and the cast did a great job, especially King Author and Patsy! Actually, the entire ensemble did an amazing job! I loved the props, the costumes and the upbeat dancing and singing. It was all so well done and well worth going to see! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone!

by 27592ESquared on 11/18/16Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Was a fantastic night out for two young grandparents who love Monty Python to get out and take a break from the grandboys! Any Monty Python fan would get a kick out of the spoofs on everything from Broadway to Phantom to Monty Python itself! Would go again for sure!

Monty Python Spamalot rather stale, not very funny

by Olgafakyrzelf on 11/18/16Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Monty Python Spamalot rather stale, not very funny – Jokes often required for us laughter and although the choreography and stage facts were interesting, the acting and the material was not Broadway quality and not worth the money I paid for the ticket. First disappointing experience with Broadway touring shows since the awful rendition of Mama Mia, also at the Duke energy center a few years back.

    Good production of Spamalot

    by MorganLeFay26 on 11/15/16Metropolitan Theatre - Morgantown

I honestly didn't realize that the cast would be middle and high school students, but, I have to admit, they did an outstanding job bringing Monty Python to the Met. The entire cast was great, but the actress playing Lady of the Lake that night, Indiah Bleher, was fantastic!

    Just like the movie!

by MED54 on 4/5/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

We were entertained from the start to the end. Hilarious, just like the movie. Ingenious set devices. Who knew we had such great local talent? The Lady of the Lake had an awesome voice although everyone was extremely talented. It was amazing and totally fun.

    Not Worth $75

by HighDesertTheatreGirl on 3/22/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

I was so excited to see this show. Being that the tickets are were $75, I thought it was a touring production. Ticketmaster wasn't clear about who the production company was. What I saw was, basically, a pretty good community theatre production. There were some really nice performances but overall, the production values were not worth what we were asked to pay. Serious sound issues.

Spamalot at California Theater In San Bernardino

by Vanatic99 on 3/22/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

We laughed from start to finish. This was a very professional production, with exceptional sets and costumes. The whole cast was great, but TJ Sloan, who played Galahad was really good, especially his duet with the Lady of the Lake.

They tried but it was just not good!

by gabbygirl9 on 3/22/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Most of the time I felt we were in community theatre. A very bad production and adaptation. Everything was done cheap and I was offended by the song about the Jews. I am a lover of Monty Python and they did try to replicate this incredible troop but they failed terribly.

The cast was well-chosen and utterly enthusiastic. It was impossible not to have fun watching them. The only problem was that the sound was very loud for the stage actors and much too quiet for the balcony actors and narrator. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed the show from top to bottom.

    I love Monty Python!

by NickDanger3rdEye on 3/22/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

I don't think he actors or director have ever seen Monty Python. They just didn't get it. In addition to the bad acting the sound system was popping and crackling. Very disappointed.

    Rehearsal, Not Performance

by RastusJ on 12/10/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Particularly given the cost, the audience at this showing should have been given at least a partial refund for one simple reason: we saw something more akin to a rehearsal than a polished performance. Most likely due to the inclusion of so many Hollywood-based TV/film actors, the show came across as unrehearsed and (at times) even amateurish. It was clear that everything from memorizing lines (particularly the lead actor, Craig Robinson) and perfecting timing to ironing out technical issues (multiple microphones) needed more work. In all fairness, it's not every show at the Bowl that involves the audience knowing the lines as well as or better than the actors, but that should have been expected by the cast. All in all, the show was significantly disappointing. I'm sure we would have been better off with the touring cast.

    Fun at the Bowl

by spiceman on 8/29/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The Tony Award-winning best musical “Monty Python’s Spamalot” was the Hollywood Bowl’s summer musical this year. It played for 3 nights, and featured a all-star cast featuring stars of stage, film and TV. It was based on the movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and tells the story of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. This was my 2nd time seeing the show — I had previously seen a small production of the show 2 years before. Knowing how fun this show was and how catchy the songs are, I knew I had to see this production. So you got to see Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine, This the the End), Christian Slater (Interview with the Vampire) and Jesse Tyler Furgeson (Modern Family) among others — singing and dancing for our enjoyment. Every production I have seen before at the Bowl has been very memorable — I saw Rent and Hairspray previously at this venue. From this production, I got a better idea of what the Broadway version must have been like, because of the high production values. There were a lot more sets, costumes and dancers than the production I had seen previously. It was almost like it was another show. And add in the fact that the show lends itself to plenty of pop culture references… so those were updated from when I saw it too. There was a big dance number with the King and his knights… with fake tap dancing sounds added to the mix. Then there was a gag added during the time in the forest that included the lyrics to “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. Plus with the gay wedding in Act 2, they added that it would still be controversial 1000 years later too. They even joked about the California drought during the part of the show where the knights had to find a shrubbery. The outer rim of the Bowl was used as a backdrop for some great visuals that were projected onto it… to create a forest, a church, a Las-Vegas inspired Camelot and much more. The walkway near the pool section of the box seats was used several times during the night… with the knights walking across it, and the Lady of the Lake doing her big solo number in the 2nd act too. It was cool to have one of the original Monty Python troupe in this production (Eric Idle) — since he is one of the writer’s of the show. Broadway veteran Merle Dandridge played the diva role of the Lady in the Lake like she was born into royalty. I also loved the part where the knights went to the French castle and the guard taunted them… with his head bopping around the edges of the ups and downs of the castle top — that was pretty inspired. Song and performance highlights for me were: “The Song That Goes Like This”, “Find Your Grail”, “You Won't Succeed on Broadway” and the rousing finale “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.” Thanks to the cast and crew for another fun show at the Bowl.

    Monty Python was hilarious

by Reinam on 8/8/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Spamalot was excellent at the Hollywood Bowl on July 31. There were so many jokes that we could see it again and still feel like it was the first time. Eric Idle presented the play to a stand up crowd. I highly recommend it. All the characters were top notch professionals.
