The play was terrific. There was a tremendous amount of unexpected humor. I enjoyed the blend of traditional Monty Python intertwined with other "nonsense"!!!!! The musical numbers, lyrics and dance, were very entertaining. The talent was extraordinary.

Monty Python's Spamalot on Tour
Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical and the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this adaptation of Monty Python's classic 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail returns with its gleefully absurdist spin on the legend of King Arthur. Featuring hilarious songs written by original Python member Eric Idle (along with music by composer John du Prez), Spamalot is a riotous display of medieval costumery, bumbling swordplay, silly dances, gloriously over-the-top sing-alongs and, of course, killer rabbits. A surefire, laugh-out-loud crowd-pleaser from start to finish, Spamalot is a reminder to — as its famous closing number goes — always look on the bright side of life.
Monty Python's Spamalot Background
Released just after their sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus completed its legendary five-year run on the BBC, the 1975 film Monty Python and The Holy Grail proved the British comedy troupe could successfully adapt its wacky sensibility to feature-length narratives. Their ridiculous, proudly blasphemous retelling of King Arthur's quest for the titular religious touchstone became an instant cult classic and, 30 years after its release, provided the inspiration for Python's maiden voyage onto Broadway. Conceived by founding member Eric Idle, Spamalot adapted The Holy Grail into a musical featuring new songs and a few reworked tunes from the Python canon (including a revision of the Life of Brian classic, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"). Spamalot's original Broadway production was directed by veteran filmmaker Mike Nichols and starred Rocky Horror Picture Show alum Tim Curry in the lead role of King Arthur; it would go on to be nominated for a whopping 14 Tony Awards, winning three of them (including Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical). A massive box office success that grossed over $175 million in its first run, Spamalot has effectively toured the world in perpetuity since its debut, spawning countless community-theater productions in the process.

Just a broadway show.
by DSMAMA on 12/26/10Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5I was looking for MORE. My 13 year-old son liked the big-breasted women, and my 14 year-old niece like the references to Holy Grail. Even though I understand Eric Idle's humor, I was left wanting "more" Python and less Broadway. I could have done without the long songs about gratuitous scenes in Broadway plays, and would have liked to see more songs about Python's Holy Grail. I felt like I wasted my money, in a way. Apologies to everyone who loved it.
Spamelot: very entertaining
by KKSouth on 12/25/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5Spamelot combined many aspects of entertainment: the wit and memorabelia of the Monty Python shows, new material, music and acting, all wrapped up in a Broadway show. It was based on the Holy Grail, but there were allusions to the other themes. Kudos!

Great Show!!! Early Christmas gift. Really enjoyed it!!!!
Not worth the money, sorry to say!
by renesbird on 12/23/10Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5I'm a long time, big Monty Python fan. That being said I don't really think the $60. I paid was really worth it. Although it was a fun show, there is nothing new that I found worthwhile.
The movie but improved
by Alchemybum on 12/23/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 4 out of 5The first minutes made me think that the play would be the movie, verbatim, but not so. Much of the script is similar to the movie but the song and dance sequences are truly enjoyable and add much to the show. The Lady of the Lake is a wonderful addition to the action. Her divaness is wonderful, yet not over the top. King Arthur is billed as the star but all the knights have bits that endear them to the audience. The humor of the play is ARRRGGGGggg

Spamalot was a fantastic production! It was beyond just an adaptation of a movie to stage, it managed to create a great new experience weaving together some of the most memorable scenes in Monty Python and the Holy Grail along with new stories, and audacious, hilarious, over-the-top musical numbers. I could not recommend seeing it more strongly, and if I ever get the opportunity, I would probably do so again myself.
Hilarious Production!!!
by pythonfan on 12/22/10Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5So glad I decided to get a ticket at the last minute and hitch a ride with friends. The song and dance routines were well done and incorporated themes from Python movies and tv series. The Lady of the Lake was outstanding!! I had a great time cracking up at the familiar and not so familiar bits, even though I was surrounded by strangers (of all ages, BTW). Awesome!!
Spamalot had us missing the Pythons!
by Pythonlvr on 12/21/10Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5Great time singing with the group all the old songs and enjoying some new songs. Enjoying ther performance was a 55 yr. old, a 54 and a 21 yr. old who grew up watching the Monty Python group as a whole and in individual movies, series, etc. All that was missing was audience members dressing in costumes, but it is kind of hard to find a knight costume that would be comfortable sitting in. Only thing missing was the Lumberjack Song!
What an enternaining romp!
by stephenbnorthshore on 12/21/10Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5We saw the show on Broadway a couple of years ago and were delighted to see it again. The quality, showmanship and production values of the show were a delight.
Spamalot..NEE!
by royboy113 on 12/21/10Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5well-crafted for the stage, Spamalot brought back memories of the good old days of Monty Python Flying Circus. The first treat was the Playbill. So as not to spoil the surprise, the list of actors was unique. Also included in the play were songs and skits from other Python projects. It was indeed a night to remember, enjoyable from beginning to end. I also liked the incorporation of local people and phraseology (Who Dat!) into the play as well. This is a don't miss for Python fans.

Excellent. Very funny tongue and cheek. Not a 100% copy of Holy Grail but clearly kept the spirit of the movie and was quite refreshingly new.
