Monty Python's Spamalot on Tour
Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical and the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this adaptation of Monty Python's classic 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail returns with its gleefully absurdist spin on the legend of King Arthur. Featuring hilarious songs written by original Python member Eric Idle (along with music by composer John du Prez), Spamalot is a riotous display of medieval costumery, bumbling swordplay, silly dances, gloriously over-the-top sing-alongs and, of course, killer rabbits. A surefire, laugh-out-loud crowd-pleaser from start to finish, Spamalot is a reminder to — as its famous closing number goes — always look on the bright side of life.
Monty Python's Spamalot Background
Released just after their sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus completed its legendary five-year run on the BBC, the 1975 film Monty Python and The Holy Grail proved the British comedy troupe could successfully adapt its wacky sensibility to feature-length narratives. Their ridiculous, proudly blasphemous retelling of King Arthur's quest for the titular religious touchstone became an instant cult classic and, 30 years after its release, provided the inspiration for Python's maiden voyage onto Broadway. Conceived by founding member Eric Idle, Spamalot adapted The Holy Grail into a musical featuring new songs and a few reworked tunes from the Python canon (including a revision of the Life of Brian classic, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"). Spamalot's original Broadway production was directed by veteran filmmaker Mike Nichols and starred Rocky Horror Picture Show alum Tim Curry in the lead role of King Arthur; it would go on to be nominated for a whopping 14 Tony Awards, winning three of them (including Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical). A massive box office success that grossed over $175 million in its first run, Spamalot has effectively toured the world in perpetuity since its debut, spawning countless community-theater productions in the process.

Spamalot was hilarious!
by Litteach on 1/27/11Plaza Theatre - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5Spamalot lived up to and exceeded all I anticipated! I had not expected it to come to El Paso (sorry Plaza Theatre) and bought tickets as soon as it was announced! Spamalot was just so funny, included all my favorite parts of ". . . Holy Grail", and the actors, music, and costumes were fantastic!! This is one you do not want to miss if you are a Monty Python fan.
Spamalot was terrific!
by VelvetHammer on 1/27/11The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5I have been a Monty Python fanatic for years, and I had eagerly anticipated the chance to see this show. I was not disappointed. They did justice to the movie (the Knights Who Say Ni, the Trojan Rabbit,, the Killer Bunny, Sir Robin's Minstrels, Tim the Enchanter, the Holy Hand Grenade) while adding some plot twists that worked reasonably well (i.e., actually finding the Holy Grail). I am very glad I got to see this. My companion was not a Monty Python buff but she really enjoyed it as well.

by rupley on 1/27/11The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5Great show! Funny from beginning to end, not a dry thigh in the place.

by Mindyh1354 on 1/27/11The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5I was very hesitant to watch this show and I am so glad that I did! it was great and was hilarious!!!! A MUST SEE!!!
What fun!
by schaj on 1/27/11The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5Thoroughly enjoyed it, what a goof. I found myself double taking and trying to keep up with all the dialog and sight jokes. Great audience involvement, and just overall fun. There were a couple of young -preteen- kids there that I question the parent's discretion. Not the fault of the troupe, but not for kids.
AMAZING!
by RonErin on 1/27/11The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5Show was amazing. Had a great time. My face still hurts from laughing so hard. The Plaza Theatre is a very nice venue.
Spamalot great fun
by ElPasoFan17 on 1/27/11The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5This is a nice mix of straight up comedy more or less lifted from the "Holy Grail" movie, along with songs spoofing the Broadway musical genre. The comedy bits were much more fun watching in person, with a crowd, than on a video, or even at a movie theater. The musical numbers were outrageous -- medieval knights singing about "Look on the bright side of life", with cheerful umbrellas. The diva, in addition to making fun of all the diva songs of Andrew Lloyd Weber, really could sing.
Spamalot a second time was just as good
by Dobro on 1/25/11Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 4 out of 5I saw this musical first in London and absolutely loved it! Enough to go see it again and convince my boyfriend (who hates musicals) to join me. He even said the quips and one-liners were hilarious and he enjoyed himself. If you like the movie you will LOVE the musical. I really enjoyed how they taylor the jokes to the local scene (which I didn't realize when seeing it in London, it appeared to be typical English humor). Hearing the Lexington and UK jokes were funny and gave it a more personal touch.
Spamalot!
by SusanML on 1/24/11North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5OMG this was a fabulous show. Took 17yo daughter and she loved it as well. This was our first ever play/musical and what a show!
Spamalot dissappointing
by YourStatesNameHere on 1/23/11Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 3 out of 5The Second act was much stronger and funnier than the first act. The Lady of the Lake, a role created for this musical, and played by Caroline Bowman was truly the one shining light in this show, eclipsing even the grail shaped beacon. Also, the program should read, "The Pre-recorded voice of Eric Idle as God." I should have been much happier spending the money on a Steak Dinner, and then renting the video. NI! I say to you. Ni, Ni, a thousand times Ni!
Spamalot was terrific!!!!

by PerbearM on 1/21/11North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5This was my first show at the PAC, and first live Broadway on tour event. The show had me singing along and laughing the entire time. I would recommend anyone who enjoys Monty Python, a good laugh, and some wonderful tunes to check this show out.

by ZoeSheppy on 1/18/11Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5The national tour of Spamalot exceeded my expectations.
Spamalot was a lot of fun!
by kiki on 1/18/11Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 4 out of 5A very high energy show for fans of Monty Python. If you are not a fan you may not understand the audience excitement and or applause at the appearance of various characters throughout but it doesn't detract from the show. Enjoyed it very much. Had complimentary appetizers before the show with a chance to ask questions of some of the performers. Very nice and well attended.
not to be missed
by lexboop on 1/18/11Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5my daughter had seen the play in London, and she recommended we see it - it was fantastic, a laugh a minute - very talented cast. Gwenivere had a marvelous voice!
