About the Monster X Tour

The spectacle of motocross meets the brute force of monster truck mayhem in the Monster X Tour, where some of the most famous monster trucks perform stunts and compete against each other for the coveted Monster X Championship. Since 2009, such legendary names in monster trucks as Traxxas X-Maxx, Equalizer, Red Solo Truck, and the one that started it all, Bigfoot, have entertained in stadiums and arenas throughout the United States and the world for the Monster X Tour. Motocross bikers, demolition derbies, and other sideshows complete the program, contributing to a memorable night for all spectators. Monster X Tour events have taken place mainly in the Western US and worldwide, with a show in Hawaii in 2019 and occasional shows nationwide.

Monster X Tour History

Monster trucks first became popular in the late '70s and early '80s with the arrival of Bigfoot, a souped-up Ford F-250 modified by Bob Chandler. After making public appearances at tractor pulls and county fairs, Bigfoot began the monster truck tradition of crushing automobiles in 1981, establishing the iconography of an entire sport and becoming part of American popular culture. The Monster X Tour first began in 2009 and immediately established credibility with the presence of both Bigfoot Racing and Straight Up Racing. Traxxas RC racing sponsored the tour from 2016 to 2018, first as the Traxxas Monster Truck Destruction Tour, and then as the Traxxas Monster Truck Tour.

Monster X events feature several monster truck competitions, including wheelie contests, races and freestyle competitions, which allow these giant machines to do such incredible stunts as hill jumps and even backflips. The tour culminates each year with the Monster X Tour World Finals. In 2019, Ty Cornelius Jr. rode Paul Breaud's Traxxas X-Maxx truck to victory, winning the Monster X Tour championship with an average finishing score of 41.83 points out of a maximum 50.

  • Long Lines...

    by J. A. on 5/8/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 3 out of 5

It took us 1 hour to get into the parking lot. It wasn't clearly marked what gates were being used for the pit party early entrance. Then, we waited in line for 1 hour to get in early. We were in line with general admission because they weren't told that there was a pit party line so people just waited on the sides to the entrance. Scanners weren't working, parking attendants were needing help from other attendants leaving their post. My son waited in line for 1.5 hours for a piece of pizza only to be told that they weren't getting any. Concessions opened up but only were selling drinks and no food. Wait times were between 1 -2 hours for food. People were starving. Exiting was an issue, parking ushers not directing traffic, standing around, and talking on cell phones. Regardless of these concerns, it was still a great family event. It can be made better with better planning, communication and clear signs directing patrons accordingly.

  • Alright show

by Mama Kai on 5/8/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 3 out of 5

The show was mediocre - the trucks weren’t running well, there wasn’t a lot of action, and the intermissions were long. On that note, the freestyle motocross was a much better show during the intermission. Would of liked to see more action. I really enjoyed watching the 12 and 16 year olds driving. They brought more energy than the adult drivers in the main trucks. If they were to return, I would second guess returning.

  • Not as good as Monster Jam

by SH on 5/7/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 1 out of 5

The show was ok. Not as good as the Monster Jam I have been to on the mainland. Plus, there was no Grave Digger. The Aloha stadium is also not very nice. It is old and has odd concessions. We waited in line for 2 hours in order to get some food. They do not allow any food or drinks to be brought in. Plus, they wanted $13 for a domestic beer. Papa Johns pizzas were $36. Unreal, even for Hawaii island life. The show was right at an advertised length of 2.5 hours. The only competitions were freestyle and two wheel competitions. Monster jam does the wheelie competition, freestyle, plus racing which is my favorite. The best part about the show was the freestyle motor cross. Those guys were really good and did crazy tricks. 5 stars for that. The robotic intergalactic show was very cheesy, although the kids enjoyed it. We paid extra for the pit pass, and it was extremely disappointing. Not all the drivers were out there, and it was crazy muddy and slick. They put down plastic over top of the mud but that actually made it like ice to walk on. Would have been nice to see all of the freestyle motocross riders and their bikes out as well. The Maui Monster monster truck was cool, but did not compete. The line for the monster truck ride was really long, and they had to tell people to get out of line because they had too many people. Overall, the show was ok, but not as good as Monster Jam. Most of the other negatives revolve around the stadium, the terrible weather, and the poor pit party. The Aloha stadium is also short staffed.

  • Good show

    by B. T. on 5/7/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 4 out of 5

Good show for what we get in Hawaii but definitely not monster jam caliber. The pit Party was way to crowded and made it. It as enjoyable as I hoped. I would still do it again tho.

  • Monster Weekend

    by N. A. on 5/7/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 3 out of 5

Everything about the show was awesome, but the only thing that I had an issue with was the 2pm Pit Party. The staff at the gate was allowing people in without the pit pass and this caused a lot people with the pit pass to miss a chance to ride the monster truck.

  • Great show...kids loved it.

by MauiStylin’ on 5/7/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 3 out of 5

It was a good show although it was disappointing that only 2 of the 10 trucks ran well and didn’t break down. Also it would’ve been nice to have a few popular trucks like Grave digger in the show. Overall the kids had so much fun and we all enjoyed it.

  • I loved it!!!!!! Please don’t wait another 20 years.

by babs on 5/7/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

Can’t wait for another Hawaii show. Our entire party loved the show. The trucks were fun to see up close during the pit party and also during the show. All of the kids enjoyed themselves.

  • Monster X Tour

    by QueenL808 on 5/7/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 3 out of 5

We were super excited to attend this event as we haven't had a monster truck show back at the aloha stadium for a while. It was a great show! I use to go with my dad when I was younger and was happy we were able to bring our son to watch it live as well. I just remember the shows being more hyped, with bigger trucks, more cars lined up, more truck smashing, etc. We thought the lines for souvenirs were way too long and could have more vendors available around other areas of the stadium. We hope the show returns to Hawaii in the future.

  • Great Experience @ Monster X Tour in Honolulu, Hawaii

    by L. N. on 5/7/19Aloha Stadium - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

Procured tickets for both nights online with ease. Chose to have tickets mailed and they arrived in a timely fashion as promised. Ticketmaster and the Aloha Stadium sent email updated regarding potential attendance, anticipated traffic, available parking & predicted weather. Per emails advice, found available parking. Saturday night was packed. Venue was professional & entertaining. Exit traffic was backed up as expected. Sunday night the crowd was smaller but just as enthusiastic as previous night. Performers give the audience their all!!!! Great night! Exiting was light then previous. Hope MONSTER X comes back in the near future. Will be there again using Ticketmaster. Great experience all round.
