MICHAEL MCDONALD IN CONCERT:
Ever since his 1982 solo debut, Michael McDonald has consistently dominated soft rock airwaves with his rich baritone voice and soulful performances. McDonald's powerhouse live shows are a veritable trip back in time, combining beloved hits like "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" with classic material from his days with the Doobie Brothers. A distinguished performer with undeniable soul, McDonald never fails to bring the house down, and his 2014 tour dates will be no different.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in St. Louis, McDonald played in several bands in high school before heading out to Los Angeles to pursue music professionally. By the mid-'70s, he had landed himself a gig playing with jazz rock legends Steely Dan, appearing on several of their most influential albums including 1977's Aja and 1980's Gaucho. Around the same time, he was recruited by the Doobie Brothers for a national tour, going on to become a full-time member of the band as lead vocalist on classic recordings like "Takin' it to the Streets" and "What a Fool Believes." Following the Doobie's farewell tour, McDonald released his 1982 solo debut If That's What It Takes, a Top 10 hit on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. With eight studio albums and an extensive list of acclaimed collaborations under his belt, McDonald has plenty of hits to choose from as he puts together the setlists for his 2014 tour.

The audio was atrocious for both Chaka Khan and Michael McDonald. In both cases the bass guitar and bass drum were over amplified, sometimes nearly drowning out the vocals and other instruments. The poor quality audio has happened, as well, at other concerts and venues in Reno. Not sure why this is such a problem in this city.
First time to GSR. You can see from any seat. Great sound. Performers were good.

It was short. Chaka Khan was good but only played on hour. Michael McDonald only sang one song with her.
Sound mix entirely too much base. It overwhelmed voices and other instruments. Totally detracted from the fine musicians.
I was skeptical about Michael and Chaka appearing together, such different music, but was overwhelmingly surprised and entertained. Chaka had that place rockin and everybody was standing and dancing. Michael did not disappoint, I have seen him three times and each time, he's magic, and he too, had the entire theater singing and dancing! well worth it!!
I thought this show was most powerful in presentation style. Both Mike McDonald and Chaka Khan showed signs of aging but were still just as powerful all the same. A good combination to fill the bill. Thanks
What a perfect day to hear music that moves you, a scenery that brings peace to your inner being and spending it with your most important person in your life....that's what I call a perfect date. Chaka Khan was phenomenal! She's 66 years old and can still belt it out. Her voice is the same from back in the day and every song she sang was one of her many hits. Chaka was for me, the highlight of my evening. Thank you Chaka for bringing so much happiness to us all! Michael was awesome also, but for me....Chaka was whats what! I love the Chateau St. Michele. Can't think of a better venue to have these amazing artists! Thank you all for making my weekend!
East access to tickets, great venue outside with relaxing weather. Chaka was excellent still delivering hits and displaying energy. Michael McDonald was okay with delivery of hits, and has a great band.
Venue is unbeatable! Always a warm and beautiful Pacific NW evening paired with outstanding wine this concert is hard to get over! Still grooving to music of Chaka Khan and Michael McDonald at home 4 days later! That is quite a hang over!!!! They were a beautiful match and singing their duet together was unforgettable! They both sounds awesome! Heart and soul!
I attended primarily for Chaka yet had a great time with Michael McDonald’s musicianship and accompany artists. His instrumentalists were all excellent in their own right. Chaka, while looking beautiful, relied upon her background vocalists to fill the songs that long ago relied on her pipes from yesteryear. She gave what she could.
Just a fun event! Loved the views from the reserved seating. Acoustics good, not perfect. Great energy from Chaka and all the back ground musicians. Was thrilled that we had her as a single, then Micheal as a single, and they did several pieces together, including a rousing encore!! Would do again!!!
First of all, the process of having to get their hours early and then fight for a spot on the grass and then wait hours till the concert starts and then once the concert starts the performers barely give us an hour and a half of their time total. Very disappointing.
Got there early but still had poor selection of GA seating. Looked like those with rolling coolers got in faster.
I was extremely disappointed that Michael did not perform many of the iconic songs I came to hear. While Chaka was great, it was Michael I came for. They performed one short duet which I enjoyed. It was a great hassle getting into the venue as well, with the security screening process leaving much to be desired.
What a great place to gather with friends for a wonderful concert! The one suggested improvement I have is to ask those up front that strand to dance during the entire concert to move to the side that is designated for this so other patrons can see the stage.
The music and entertainment was awesome. Shakakan played all of her award winning songs which was a crowd pleaser
Love his voice should be in the rock-n-roll hall of fame solo and with The doobies
The opening act was very good as was Michael McDonald. But Chaka Khan was a dream! She sounded fantastic, she looked incredible; I was blessed to be there. Experiencing Chaka live was beyond amazing.
Always love your shows. The one improvement could be getting thru security at the venue. Long lines getting at north entrance.
