About

MICHAEL MCDONALD IN CONCERT:

Ever since his 1982 solo debut, Michael McDonald has consistently dominated soft rock airwaves with his rich baritone voice and soulful performances. McDonald's powerhouse live shows are a veritable trip back in time, combining beloved hits like "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" with classic material from his days with the Doobie Brothers. A distinguished performer with undeniable soul, McDonald never fails to bring the house down, and his 2014 tour dates will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in St. Louis, McDonald played in several bands in high school before heading out to Los Angeles to pursue music professionally. By the mid-'70s, he had landed himself a gig playing with jazz rock legends Steely Dan, appearing on several of their most influential albums including 1977's Aja and 1980's Gaucho. Around the same time, he was recruited by the Doobie Brothers for a national tour, going on to become a full-time member of the band as lead vocalist on classic recordings like "Takin' it to the Streets" and "What a Fool Believes." Following the Doobie's farewell tour, McDonald released his 1982 solo debut If That's What It Takes, a Top 10 hit on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. With eight studio albums and an extensive list of acclaimed collaborations under his belt, McDonald has plenty of hits to choose from as he puts together the setlists for his 2014 tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"He was absolutely wonderful as was his band and singers accompanying him. His voice was impeccable and just as awesome as it is on all of his recorded music."

"The performance was exceptional. They sounded terrific and the setlist was a blend of solid hits and several covers that meshed perfectly. The audience was totally engaged and McDonald really hit it out of the park."

"The guy still has it! Nice mix of Doobie days, and his own twist on some Motown standards. The musicians and female vocalist complimenting him were fantastic in their own right."

    Outstanding Concert

by J. c. on 7/20/19Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

We really enjoyed his music. He was great and so was his backup singer and his band. He also brought out his wife so they could do a duet together, which was also great. The acoustics in the Majestic Theater could be better. But he was fantastic!

    Outstanding-5 STARS!

by Old School on 7/18/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Loved everything about this concert. I remember Michael Mcdonald when I was in college, he did not disappoint. Chaka Khan was fantastic her voice is still there! The new group was also good, had not heard of them before, but they were a good group to lead into Michael Mcdonald and Chaka Khan. Love, Love, Love!!!

    Good concert

by Freebird on 7/17/19The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - Woodlands

Great artists, Michael McDonald and Chaka Khan deserved to be heard by more people. The venue was only about half full probably because the scalpers (resellers) buy up all the tickets so that ordinary people can't afford to see their favorite artists! If not for the special LiveNation $20 seats, we wouldn't have been at the concert. When I first tried to purchase tickets, the good seats were all $100+ per ticket. This is happening at all venues and concerts. These resellers should not be allowed to buy up the tickets before the general public has a chance to buy a reasonably priced ticket. If I thought the extra money was going to the artists, it would make me feel better but I'm sure the excessive amounts are going to the scalpers!

    We left early.

by S. L. on 7/17/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

His voice was in bad shape. He opened with a guitar-playing solo that spotlighted this fact. Then he moved behind the piano and hid behind the volume of the brasses. Chaka Khan was good as always, but not enough to make up for anything.

    Disappointed in a sick MD!

by S. P. on 7/17/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

A nice night out but as Michael McDonald was sick it was less enjoyable. Chaka was amazing but i was never a fan so that part of the show was not my purpose for the visit. Venue is nice and easy to access. Beer and food prices were high. Proximity to lots of restaurants as well as the smaller concert stage outside enhances the experience.

    Enjoyable considering

by val61 on 7/16/19The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - Woodlands

Considering the age of the singers, it was a great concert. Chaka Khan seemed to handle her aging body and voice better than Michael McDonald.

    Michael McDonald -Awful

by DeDe on 7/16/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

I was looking forward to hearing Micheal McDonald. Although the musicians and backup singer were awesome, Michael’s voice was awful. Don’t know if he was recovering from an illness. He looked and sounded sick. Chaka Kahn saved the night. ! If it had not been for her outstanding performance, I would have expected a refund!

Michael McDonald / Chaka Khan concert

by J. M. on 7/16/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Michael McDonald is losing his voice. He was laboring and there were many times when you could see him mouthing the words, but on the high notes, nothing was coming out. When you could hear him, there were times he was doing his best Bob Dylan impression. Sad thing, but for some artists, it is time to announce your retirement. Chaka Khan, on the other hand, was incredible. Both sets were short (barely an hour each), but she played all of her hits you would have expected. Looked great, sounded great, still belting them out! She made the whole evening worth the price of admission. Not crazy about the venue.... the floor seats are on a relatively flat floor, so unless you're in the first two rows, you're looked squarely at the back of someone's head. However, the sound was very good, and they did have two huge video monitors on each side of the theater, so that was helpful.

Will the real Mr. Doobie Brother please stand up?

by Dallas4Ever on 7/16/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

My mind was blown and I became hypnotised when Michael (half of the Doobie Brothers) turned on his musical voice and charm. Wow!!! In no time, the crowd was rockin’ n rolling throughout the venue! Word of Michael being under the weather fooled the crowd as Michael rose to his real love of pleasing his fans! I cannot get enough of Michael and look forward to next year!!!

    Awesome Performance!

by BigfanofMichaelandChaka! on 7/16/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

First time at the Toyota Pavilion- I will definitely be on the lookout for more concerts in that location. Michael's ,band, and backup vocalist gave a heck of a show. Everything was on point. Love artists that actually sing and play instruments. The sound was so pure. Love his blue eye soul. Chaka was fine and foxy. The Lady still has the great voice. Her band and back up vocalist truly talented crew. Overall Amazing

    Real Music

by M. H. on 7/16/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Michael McDonald was hoarse but determined to come through for the audience. He is still an excellent musician. CHAKA KHAN was all that! Sounded just a crisp and clear as she did 40 years ago. Didn't want the concert to end!

    Great night

by Smoothiequeen50 on 7/16/19The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

This was my first concert at the Toyota Music Factory. A great facility. Chaka Khan is priceless. They don’t make voices like hers anymore.
