Miami Hurricanes Football History
The Miami Hurricanes are a college football powerhouse with five national championships, nine conference titles and over 40 bowl game appearances, including six high-profile Orange Bowl wins. Founded in 1926, the Miami Hurricanes were independent for much of their existence until the team joined the Big East in 1991. Since 2004, Miami has been a part of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Hurricanes rosters have featured future Pro Football Hall of Famers such as quarterback Jim Kelly, wide receivers Michael Irvin and Andre Johnson, center Jim Otto, safety Ed Reed, linebacker Ray Lewis and defensive tackles Warren Sapp and Cortez Kennedy. Miami has also fielded two Heisman Trophy winners, quarterbacks Vinny Testaverde in 1986 and Gino Torretta in 1992. Several of Miami's most successful head coaches, including Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson, went on to coach in the NFL.
The Hurricanes have played in several of college football's greatest games. On New Year's Day 1984, Miami cemented its first of five national championships by defeating the heavily favored Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Orange Bowl. The team secured their second national title in 1987 with an undefeated season that culminated in the Hurricanes dominating the Oklahoma Sooners in the Orange Bowl. In November 1991, Miami won the “Wide Right I” game against Florida State after the Seminoles' kicker missed a game-winning field goal and advanced to the Orange Bowl, where they shut out the Cornhuskers.
The Hurricanes have in-state rivalries with the University of Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles as well as heated intra-division opposition from Virginia Tech. The feud between Miami and Florida State, which dates back to 1951, has been particularly fierce since the ’80s, as the two teams have taken turns spoiling each other's championship aspirations. During seasons when all three Florida teams play against one another, the squad with the most wins takes home the Florida Cup.

Beautiful stadium and very exciting game. Our problem was with the "guards" or people watching that no hanky panky went on. WAY too much beer sold...so unnecessary to have the drunks in the crowd and many were minors. 4 people smoked right around us and one, after being kicked out, came right back in. Ridiculous. I couldn't sleep that night from lung problems and was very annoyed. If you advertise no smoking then MAKE SURE THEY DON'T! Guard people very lazy and didn't do much. People smoking pot/cigars/cigarettes everywhere and in student sections. I really had a problem with this and will think twice before going back after traveling 3 hours to get there.
Best game in a very long time. The Canes are back.
Great game and great seats. Miami students and fans have created a great atmosphere at their new stadium!!
The game day experience was "AWESOME"!!!
The game was outstanding, however I ran into a problem by using the paper parking pass that I printed from your website. The parking staff was rejecting the paper parking passes at the gate. I would suggest that your customers request the parking pass to be mailed.
Biggest Hurricane game at Landshark Stadium in years and Miami came out on top! Seats were high up but had a good view of the entire field. Game was amazing and it was great to be a part of such an electifiying atmosphere.
Great game played by both teams.
What a great game. Most important is that my kids loved it.
Nice stadium, all seats were good seats....we were in section 416 and could see the game just fine....only downfall was the winning team's fans were rude and threw things at the losing team's fans in the hallways walking back from the stadium...
What a game; terrific football. Great seats
WOW! WOW! WOW! What a game. Tickets were exactly what we wanted and seat location was excellent.
IT WAS A LONGTIME AGO WHEN I SAW THE CANES PLAYING AS CHAMPION. CERTAINLY, THE DEFENSE HAS ALL THE CREDIT. ALL OUR OFFENSIVE LINE TO SETTLE DOWN AND MOVE ON.
Absolutely outstanding. Miami defense closed down the Sooner's route to Victory. In a stunning recovery form two critical interceptions in the first few minutes of the first quarter the Hurricanes continue on their path of destruction in the ACC.
I was pleased with my seats and the ease of ordering my 4 seats. I appreciated the updates and the listing of the 8:00PM start time. The whole evening was great except for the score. I will attend another game inthe future. All of us had a great time.
Landshark stadium provides an excellant venue for football. For the first time I felt like the crowd was like being at the OB all those years... GO CANES !!!!!!!
it was a great game-had great seats. a good crowd that's excited again for hurricane football. the stadium has good seats anywhere. as usual concession prices continue to increase and $25 for parking is high.
The seats we had were section 443 row 26... for $85 each. I thought they were too expensive. I would have thought that price would get you closer. Other than that.. the game its self was amazing GOOO CANES!!!!!!!
It was the best game I have ever been to and I am 60! The sad part were some of the Miami fans. I was in secstion113! The language was the worst I have ever heard at an event Children were around! These fans even threw a drink on 1 Oklahoma fan and several Miami Fans. How can people behave like that! Other than that it was tne greatest foolball game my wife and i have ever watched!
Game was fantastic. the Um football team really showed up to defeat ga tech and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
