About

MEW IN CONCERT:

Danish band Mew mixes arena-ready hooks with dreamy atmospherics to create an infectious sound that gets everyone in attendance rocking. On miniature epics like “Am I Wry? No”, “Special”, and “Making Friends”, the band expertly moves through complex passages and doles out larger-than-life riffs that keep ticket buyers headbanging throughout the night. Lead singer Jonas Bjerre adds pristine tenor vocals and beautiful melodies to perfectly complement the pummeling power and heady atmospherics of the rest of the group. Mew consistently floors audiences around the world with their stunning light shows and flawless musicianship, offering an unparalleled aural and visual experience whenever they tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in the Hellerup suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark, Mew has been a major factor in sowing the seeds of indie rock in their native country since 1994. After gigging around Copenhagen for a few years, the adventurous quartet of Jonas Bjerre (vocals), Johan Wohlert (bass), Silas Utke Graae Jorgensen (drums), and Bo Madsen (guitar) released their 1997 debut album A Triumph for Man. The band burst onto the international scene in 2003 with the album Frengers, winning praise for their combination of operatic production and rock and roll power. Though Wohlert left amicably in 2006 to spend more time with his growing family, the group soldiered on as a trio for 2009’s No More Stories Today…, which embraced a more dance-oriented production style. The bassist returned to the fold in time for their 2015 album + -, though guitarist Madsen subsequently departed. As a three piece, the band continues to rock arenas around the world with their trademark combination of winning hooks, stunning musicianship, and amazing showmanship.

  • Great show

by Pattytheb on 8/10/17The Foundry - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Mew should be everyone's music collection, but being able to see them play intricate versions of already intricate songs -- in an intimate venue -- was godhead

  • Mew nailed it

by MajorMewFan on 10/14/15Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

An incredible band delivered a high energy, euphoric show. Sad to see Bo Madsen not up there as well, but the new guitarist did a great job stepping into large shoes. One of the best shows I had seen, until the next night in Boston--more intimate venue with the band a yard or two away from us.

  • Mew is the best, most underrated band in the world

by GuyFromVictoria on 10/2/15Venue - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of Mew for a decade, and this was the third time I've seen them. I will never miss a chance to see them live. Their musicianship is perfect, they play with the intensity of a metal band, and the music, of course, is incredible. I travelled from the island to Vancouver to see them. I'd travel a damn sight further than that if I had to. The best part was that every song was a hit - not one weak link in that setlist. After 5+ albums, they have a solid repertoire to draw from. They play arenas in Europe and Asia. How they haven't achieved top tier fame in North America is a mystery. Easily one of the best, most listenable bands in the world, right now. Sound, lighting and overal presentation at Venue Nightclub was excellent as always. A stellar live venue.

I saw Mew in October of 2006 at the El Rey Theatre. I saw them a couple months ago at the Troubador. And Now at the Henry Fonda. It was amazing. I wish I could see them again. From the sound to the videos they display behind you will always make it the moment unforgettable. I'm glad I went and and I will go again. BO!

Mew is the number one band. They are obviously musically talented, but the visuals on top of the music makes for a surreal experience. Both are entrancing and you are left transcending Earth.
