About

Melissa Etheridge in Concert

For more than three decades, Melissa Etheridge has been one of folk-rock's most resonant voices, offering comfort and solace to listeners while also serving as a defiant beacon of hope. The Kansas-born Etheridge initially studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, dropping out to pursue her dreams while playing sets in Southern California's lesbian bars. Etheridge's 1988 self-titled debut—which she recorded in four days—went double-platinum and was hailed widely by critics for its stripped-down take on roots rock, which recalled fellow Midwesterner John Cougar Mellencamp while also channeling the passion of Janis Joplin. Its blues-tinged single "Bring Me Some Water" was nominated for the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance Grammy, one of 15 nominations she's received over the course of her career.

One of her two wins was in honor of "Come to My Window," a single from her fourth album ‘Yes I Am’ that was released after she came out of the closet in 1993. That jangly anthem for self-acceptance, and its stunning video starring Juliette Lewis, remains one of the 1990s' most beloved singles; in 2001 when she performed it at The Concert For New York City the audience happily filled in after a mic glitch left her inaudible, while in 2017 she celebrated Independence Day with a stirring performance fronting the famed orchestra The Boston Pops.

Etheridge's career has been a testament to tenacity and honesty, with her rich, raspy voice making her forthright lyrics land even more powerfully. The bluesy, sultry "Window" follow-up "I'm the Only One" peaked at No. 8 on the Hot 100; her 2006 song "I Need to Wake Up," which accompanied the environmentally conscious film ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ became the first song from a documentary to win the Best Original Song Oscar, and in 2014 she launched ME Records, her own record label, through which she's released projects like her Stax Records salute ‘MEmphis Rock and Soul.’ On her forthcoming tour of the U.S. and Europe, Etheridge is celebrating the 25th anniversary of ‘Yes I Am’—and a career defined by a willingness to say "yes" to her artistic and personal desires.

    Melissa Rocked the House Down!!!

by HurlyGirl on 7/17/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

Melissa's Live and Alone concert at the Avalon Ballroom was absolutely AWESOME! Touring solo without the band unveiled her raw, pure voice plus the sound quality of her 12 string Adamas showcased her amazing acoustical guitar playing. Thank you Ticketmaster for the great seats for the memory of fantastic time which will be with us forever!

    Top Notch

by pullastunt on 7/17/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

I've seen Melissa 10 times now over the years. Each time I see her, I am floored everytime by her energy and what a great musician she is. This was a solo show, you have to be very talented to hold an audience in the palm of your hand for 2 hours. She writes marvelous songs, performs them wonderfully, and leaves every ounce of herself on the stage before she calls it a night. Every time I see her, I come away thinking she just perfomed like this would be the last show she'd ever do.

    Melissa was Memorable

by bravestess on 7/16/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

This was my first Melissa concert and I must say I was surprised. Not only is she talented and a wonderful musician, but she is very down to earth and funny. The way she talked to her fans and pointed out regulars, acknowledged signs and took gifts, she made it even more incredible for the audience. She really is as amazing as I had been told and I cant wait to see her again.

    Still Rockin

Very low-key show, all Melissa without a band. She had a lot of personality, and WOW, she still ROCKS.

    A one woman show!

by SSG1967 on 7/16/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

Melissa Etheridge truly performed an excellent one woman show. She has such a diverse range of vocals and her style is quite flexible-from rock to folk to rockabilly even.

    Melissa Etheridge

by Ladyvols22 on 7/16/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

I love Melissa Etheridge. When I found out that she was going to be at Harrah's in Tunica I couldnt believe it. The last time that I saw her was at Sam's Town, 6 years prior. The acustics were awesome. Melissa performs best when it is just her and the audience, without the loud band behind her. She was very inter active with the audience, and enjoyed cutting up and making jokes. I would love to see her perform more at Harrah's than any other venue in Tunica due to the fact that there wasnt a bad seat in the house. We snuck down to the floor and got to get about 20 feet from her. It was awesome because noone cared, and the ushers knew that they couldnt get us back to our seats once we where there. Melissa Rocks!

    Melissa Etheridge is the BEST!!!!

by eyegirllaura on 7/16/09The Venue - Hammond

I wasn't sure I would enjoy her show without her band......boy, I should have known better ......WOW...what a show!!! It was a GREAT! My husband and I were standing in line, before the doors opened, chatting with the couple in front of us. As we were seated, I noticed them sitting about 8 rows in front of us. As my husband got drinks, Kim, waved to me to come back over to them....asking if I would like to go back stage and meet Melissa??? WHAT?!?!.....Did she think I was crazy!!!! Of course I would LOVE to go!! Melissa's PR lady or head of her fan club came up to them, asking if they would like to go back stage.....she had 3 back stage passes left .....of course they said yes and then asked me to go as well. Boy....was I lucky or what!?!? So not only did I see my most favorite singer.....I got to meet and get my photo taken with her! I was in such a happy place....I couldn't comprehend just where I could pick up the photo, even after it was explained to me 3 different times.....so the nice Fan Club Lady actually mailed it to me. The show was amazing from start to finish. Melissa is such an exceptionally talented performer and even a better person....it doesn't get any better. My only regret is that I would have liked to talk to her more instead of just standing there like a big goof, but it was like I was in shock and I just froze!! Who knows, maybe I will get the chance again....probably not, but I can hope.

    Melissa Etheridge concert

by prickle on 7/16/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

Overall she put on a good show. I would have preferred her with a band, but I should have expected her being solo since the tour was titled solo. I noticed in the area of the audience I was sitting lots of people were talking during the show almost like a lounge act, and then would start to pay more attention when Mellissa played one of her big hits. I overheard a couple of people commenting on her attire. She wore jeans and a large top, almost too casual for the show. After the show ,during the after party at one of the casino's bar and grill, people were not really talking about the concert. I have been to other concerts and talked about it for days, but not this one.

I've seen Melissa with a band and now without one, and I thought that both shows were some of the best concerts I have ever seen.

    ME rocked!!!

by Mack13 on 7/16/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

ME was great in the small venue. The audience was a little calm until she got into her older hits. If only the casino would have treated us women better it would have been a perfect night.

    melissa rocks

by jp15 on 7/16/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

I liked her better on her alone tour. She rocks accoustically. It seemed like a more personal concert, of course having it in a small venue was awesome, too. As always she puts on a great concert!

    Melissa: Raw and Intimate!

by REddy501 on 7/16/09Harrah's Casino Tunica Event Center - Tunica

Don't get me wrong. I love the sound of the full band, with the booming bass, ear splitting guitars, and amazing light shows. Melissa Etheridge - Live and Alone, gives you so much more than any of that every could. She literally makes you feel as if you're old friends, sitting in your living room for an intimate night of music and conversation. She has an amazing way of pulling this off, even in a crowd full of fans. I would recommend this show to ANYONE.

    Great show

This was an amazing show. Great venue too. Some boneheads were talking loudly from the box seats and that was annoying but other than that everyone had a great time

    Melissa Still Rocks the House!

by Doggity on 7/16/09The Venue - Hammond

What an awesome venue in which to see this rock icon! I had never been to The Venue and wondered how intimate the event would be. Having seen Melisssa at Chicago Theatre on numerous occasions, I didn't think any other venue could match up. But, The Venue proved me wrong. Loved the big screens, every seat is a great one, and the acoustics were fantastic. As for Melissa, well, she was truly amazing on guitar, vocals, harmonica, and the piano. The lady has it all going on! I especially enjoy seeing her alone, without her band. I love the band, but alone is the best! Loved the experience!

by wiggy99 on 7/16/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Melissa was just amazing. She played for over 2 hours and it was just her and her guitar( and at time, the piano). This was the first time that I have seen her live, and I would go to see her again anytime. She was great.
