Melissa Etheridge in Concert
For more than three decades, Melissa Etheridge has been one of folk-rock's most resonant voices, offering comfort and solace to listeners while also serving as a defiant beacon of hope. The Kansas-born Etheridge initially studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, dropping out to pursue her dreams while playing sets in Southern California's lesbian bars. Etheridge's 1988 self-titled debut—which she recorded in four days—went double-platinum and was hailed widely by critics for its stripped-down take on roots rock, which recalled fellow Midwesterner John Cougar Mellencamp while also channeling the passion of Janis Joplin. Its blues-tinged single "Bring Me Some Water" was nominated for the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance Grammy, one of 15 nominations she's received over the course of her career.
One of her two wins was in honor of "Come to My Window," a single from her fourth album ‘Yes I Am’ that was released after she came out of the closet in 1993. That jangly anthem for self-acceptance, and its stunning video starring Juliette Lewis, remains one of the 1990s' most beloved singles; in 2001 when she performed it at The Concert For New York City the audience happily filled in after a mic glitch left her inaudible, while in 2017 she celebrated Independence Day with a stirring performance fronting the famed orchestra The Boston Pops.
Etheridge's career has been a testament to tenacity and honesty, with her rich, raspy voice making her forthright lyrics land even more powerfully. The bluesy, sultry "Window" follow-up "I'm the Only One" peaked at No. 8 on the Hot 100; her 2006 song "I Need to Wake Up," which accompanied the environmentally conscious film ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ became the first song from a documentary to win the Best Original Song Oscar, and in 2014 she launched ME Records, her own record label, through which she's released projects like her Stax Records salute ‘MEmphis Rock and Soul.’ On her forthcoming tour of the U.S. and Europe, Etheridge is celebrating the 25th anniversary of ‘Yes I Am’—and a career defined by a willingness to say "yes" to her artistic and personal desires.

I was impressed how Melissa performed solo. I never seen an artist perform by themselves.
Loved her concert, her music inspires me...we're both "Survivors"!!!! Loved it!
My partner and I have seen Melissa Ethridge in concert MANY times and she never fails to please! Although it was nice to hear some newer material, the standards like "Come to my Window" keep me returning to her shows! The intimate theater and her one-woman show made for a great night!!!
Melissa was AWESOME in Tunica at Harrah's Casino Event Center!!! The show was TOTALLY Melissa & her Guitar...Hench "Alive & Alone" tour 2009....I will see the "Alive & Alone" event AGAIN in Norman,OK...The show was Up Close & Personal..There was EASY access to Melissa for her fans to get up front and see and Jam to Melisssa!!! I recommend ALL Melissa fans to catch the "Alive & Alone" tour XOXOXOXO
Melissa Etheridge is still rocking hard. Even alone, she sounds like an entire band. Great!
She is so warm and has so much fun. It was a blast. It was just Melissa, no band, and I loved it!!! The venue was also great.
I have seen Melissa Etheridge before, but seeing her in this intimate setting was wonderful. The power of her voice really carried in this venue, and I felt really close to the music. I would recommend it to anyone!
The concert was simply awesome!! Not too many performers can put on a concert by themselves without any backup. But Melissa can do it over and over again. The Venue is a great location to see a concert and i will definitely return to that location.
Though Melissa didn't have a band to back her, she put on a unforgettable show. As always rockin it out on her 12-string guitar singing her hits from past and present was like watching her back in her early career just out of the bars. It was raw and real! Then covering others songs as only she can while playing piano was a rare treat. Throw in electric guitar and harmonica and what else can I say? She's an inspirational female rocker with the talent and intelligence to reach any human being listening.
The concert was awsome!!! she is an amazing performer with just her and her guitar. The croud loved it when she did a tribute to Michael Jackson singing "I'll Be There". The venue, The SoundBoard" was a great place to see a concert, not a bad seat in the house. I look forward to seeing other concerts there.
This was the BEST SOLO Concert I have ever seen. And as part of the many people who got the opportunity to see her come on stage while the beautiful California sunset set is something I will never forget. But the one thing I will cherish most about this concert was to look around at the audience and see women couples singing along to her tunes, while they sang to each other the beautiful words of her songs. MELISSA TU ERES LA CANTANTE DEL AMOR and I can't wait to see you again at "The Pacific Amphitheatre on Sat, Aug 8, 2009 08:00 PM"
She totally rocks! I have seen Melissa perform for 20 years now and she never disappoints.

Melissa live and alone was wonderful!! The venue was great and I enjoyed the show she rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG! Melissa on stage without her band was extraordinary! I think she had as much a good time as the crowd :) The Detroit Motor City Casino is a wonderful venue, with close roomy seating. I'd highly recommend and go again myself.
This is the first time I seen her, she was truly amazing. I havent heard such talent. since Janice Joplin. I wont miss another of her concerts, when she comes to Detroit, I will be there!!!! She ROCKS!!!!
Excellent venue! We had a great time and will look for other events there! I have seen Melissa several times, this was one of the very best venues. Every seat is good and there are bars within the venue!!
