MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN IN CONCERT:
Progressive metal icon Maynard James Keenan has long been recognized for his role as frontman of legendary rock band Tool, but lately it's his solo show that has been bringing fans out in droves. The Grammy Award-winning multi-talent is revered for his intense showmanship and onstage antics, and whether he's performing solo or with Tool, he never fails to deliver heart-pounding performances. From classic Tool hits like "Schism" to more recent cuts from his solo side project Puscifer, MJK will cover plenty of ground on his upcoming tour, treating fans to adrenalin-filled sets they won't soon forget.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Ohio to a Southern Baptist family, Maynard James Keenan joined the US Army in the early '80s, taking on a rigorous West Point curriculum that included advanced level math, English, glee club, and a featured role on the wrestling team. Shortly after completing the terms of his enlistment, he moved to Los Angeles and began playing music with various groups. In 1990 MJK formed Tool with guitarist Adam Jones, beginning an impressive run that would include several chart-topping albums, a slew of hit singles, and three Grammys. In 1999, he founded the rock supergroup A Perfect Circle, continuing his chart success with another string of massively successive albums and singles. With the release of two albums in the '00s under the moniker Puscifer, Maynard James Keenan proved his capabilities as a solo performer, paving the way for continued touring.
Great show. Failure was a great surprise. Greek theatre is always a great place to go to a show.
As a long time APC fan, seeing them perform songs like "The Hollow" and "Blue" was absolutely amazing. Failure was ok but I didn't particularly enjoy them. Puscifer had a very interesting mix of stuff (which I expected) but the end segment of the show, from 3 little pigs to the end felt very different than the rest of the show, almost jarringly so. Pleasantly surprised by Maynard's crowd interaction. Wasn't expecting any but he had a bit of back and forth, which was nice. Overall, definitely worth going to, especially for APC fans, but be prepared for Puscifer, which represented a good 30-40% of the show's content.
It was truly an amazing night! And the venue was gorgeous! APC and Puscifer was incredible and I will make sure that I will always see them live
The show was awesome! APC played 3 times as well as Puscifer! Worth all the money!
History was made and am glad to have been a part of it! Thank you
The ultimate birthday party. I felt as if it was a celebration of life, achievement, and success. I thank Maynard for allowing us to celebrate his life with him. He shares his life with us allowing us to celebrate our own.
Everyone who reads this and didn't make it should be jealous they missed the most amazing event (plural if you went both nights like we did). You better hope the film taken will turn into a movie. ALL groups were amazing. Yes, there were more than the 3 advertised. At the end of the second show, at least Maynard said something like "See you soon".
The concert was amazing and the acoustics were perfect. You need to allow sealed water containers into venue.
I absolutely loved the venue it was beautiful and clean! As for the performance I really felt like I was at a birthday party and had an amazing time.
I bought the tickets for my Son as a birthday present and I understand the concert was incredible.
This was a memorable 2 nights of excellent music and surprises. We are so glad to have been able to attend both performances! Would do it again without question. The Greek Theater is a beautiful outdoor venue, with excellent sound. The washrooms are a bit of a trek at times.
Sooooo much fun. The Greek Theater is an amazing venue. Located in the Griffith Park. Spend the whole day there at the Observatory and walk the trails. The sound for the show was crystal clear. You could hear ever nuance of the music.
Maynard is absolutely incredible.. Any live performance he touches is gold. Would definitely see him again when he comes nearby
the night was just one mind-blowing moment after another. like being invited to this party of a group of musicians who happen to be some of my favorite of all time.... hearing all these songs I have such relationships with, in a setting that felt so intimate. everyone there was riding the same wave, including the musicians... and you could feel it. seeing them hanging out on stage, drinking wine and taking pictures made us feel like they were just as excited to be there witnessing the event as we were. Maynard held up his cup to toast the crowd a couple of times making us feel like he was happy we were there and that is a very good thing to feel from a musician we have loved and respected for so long. seeing Failure was like getting to go back in time and it gave me goosebumps when they started playing my favorite songs! the surprises were all great but Danny Carey being there and getting to hear Sober was the highlight for me. the only thing that could have made it even better was if Adam had been there! I am so grateful to have been there to experience that night. Unforgettable!!
Awesome show! Best birthday party ever! I wish I went to both day!
I love Maynard. Definitely will go to any other Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, or Tool shows in my area.
If you are a fan of the works of Maynard James Keenan this was an event not to be missed. All of his projects intermingling and jamming in each others bands. Songs that span his entire catalog. Amazing show!
So glad I got be a part of this event as it will likely never happen again.
A celebration of Maynard James Keena's 50th birthday turned into a special event for all involved as Failure, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle played an amazing mix and match show with the members of all three bands mingled on stage sipping drinks while the others played... They were joined late in the show by Green Jelly and two other members of Tool for an amazing finale... Amazing show. Remarkable venue. It will be a treasured memory.
The show was amazing! So was the venue! Loved every moment of it!
