MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN IN CONCERT:

Progressive metal icon Maynard James Keenan has long been recognized for his role as frontman of legendary rock band Tool, but lately it's his solo show that has been bringing fans out in droves. The Grammy Award-winning multi-talent is revered for his intense showmanship and onstage antics, and whether he's performing solo or with Tool, he never fails to deliver heart-pounding performances. From classic Tool hits like "Schism" to more recent cuts from his solo side project Puscifer, MJK will cover plenty of ground on his upcoming tour, treating fans to adrenalin-filled sets they won't soon forget.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Ohio to a Southern Baptist family, Maynard James Keenan joined the US Army in the early '80s, taking on a rigorous West Point curriculum that included advanced level math, English, glee club, and a featured role on the wrestling team. Shortly after completing the terms of his enlistment, he moved to Los Angeles and began playing music with various groups. In 1990 MJK formed Tool with guitarist Adam Jones, beginning an impressive run that would include several chart-topping albums, a slew of hit singles, and three Grammys. In 1999, he founded the rock supergroup A Perfect Circle, continuing his chart success with another string of massively successive albums and singles. With the release of two albums in the '00s under the moniker Puscifer, Maynard James Keenan proved his capabilities as a solo performer, paving the way for continued touring.

    Sat 10 feet away...

    by n2witchn on 11/15/16Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

I was a little disappointed with the preparedness level of the moderator, Roxy Myzal. She seemed disorganized and flustered, flipping through her binder trying to find questions that Maynard didn't think would take away from the book for people who hadn't read it yet. I was lucky enough to get a copy pretty early and was about halfway through it before the event, so I understood the significance of the music that played while we were waiting as well as the opening song and the bird theme... even the Twizzlers that Roxy brought on stage but never presented to Maynard. I thought we'd have an open Q&A session after the talk but the questions were pre-selected and I never knew about that happening despite paying lots of money for 2 VIP tickets. One of the people who was selected to ask their question wasn't even there so they just read it off the paper... No matter what, being able to experience this conversation with Maynard was an unforgettable moment that I know I'll hold on to for the rest of my life. I wish I had been able to ask my questions but I'll just hold on to them in case another opportunity arises down the road.

    Kind of a let down.

    by JYoung32 on 11/15/16Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

Dropped $250 on a VIP ticket and was super excited to see this event..waited well over two hours for start. The overall event only lasted an hour. You could barley make out anything Maynard was saying (very soft spoken and kind of slurs his S's). The swag that came w the VIP package..kinda cheap. It was cool getting to be in a close environment with him, but, as much as it hurts to say, I don't think I would recommend this event to anyone. Save your money for the next concert!

    Great for diehard Maynard fan.

by Wifeperson on 11/15/16Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

I bought a ticket for my husband who thinks maynard is a god lol. He seemed to enjoy it. I give it three stars because , when I bought the tickets it said people would get a chance to ask questions and they had preselected people or something. so if you love Maynard and just want to feel his presence in a room this is for you.

Book tour was enlightening and inperational

    by Mlb930300 on 11/15/16Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

The venue was beautiful. The "show" I'll call it for lack of a better term , was great. It was a wonderful conversation to listen too. The passages read from the book only made me want to read it even more. If you are a true fan of the man this book tour is worth your time.

    different

    by Billy87 on 11/15/16Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

I am a giant Tool fan and drove 8 hours to check this out. It was the first of this type of an event for me so I wasn't too sure what to expect. Sound quality hurt for sure, the place was pretty echo-ey and Maynard wasn't always too easy to hear as his voice varied. For me, it felt too restrained, too controlled. We all know Maynard is a very private man but the discussion was so tempered, lacking depth in my mind. I will read the book for sure but hope it is more revealing then the in-person angle.

Thought provoking, influential wisdom at its best!

    by Truthseeker61 on 11/15/16Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

For those of you fortunate enough to have tickets to hear Maynard speak you are in for an enlightening experience with a creative genius. For those of you who aren't able to attend READ the book, A Perfect Union of Contrary Things. It is a well written history filled with thought provoking, influential wisdom at its best.

    Maynard is a genius!

by UnicornHunter on 11/15/16Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

This was done in an interview format with a moderator. Maynard answered every question with an answer that was touching, amazing, enlightening, and simply genius. Whether you're a fan of his music, his wine, or a newcomer to the world of Maynard you will love every minute of this!

    Celebrating Maynard's 50th

by cradockmarine on 5/20/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

This gig coincided with my visit from the UK so I couldn't miss out on attending both nights of Cinquanta - and it was worth the mileage. As APC haven't been over to the UK in years, and have yet to host any Puscifer gigs, it was a treat to see Maynard in his many incarnations - especially as we got a taste of Tool on the Saturday night and some bonus drumming from Danny Carey on Sunday.

    Cinquanta-Happy Birthday Maynard!

by tksndengnr on 5/17/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

While it is hard to describe everything that made this show great, it was fantastic! Great performances by all, and the sound was amazing. You could hear everything that anybody was doing clearly. It is hard to find that at some shows, and with such great musicians... you want to hear everything. My only gripe would be that I wish more songs were performed by A Perfect Circle. It appears that Maynard favors Puscifer more, so we got more songs from the latter as opposed to the former. Members of all bands were on stage for the whole show, and rotated the whole evening by playing a few songs from each band for the whole show. And there was an appearance by Danny & Justin from Tool for the performance of Sober, as well as a song from Green Jello... if anyone remembers them!

    Cinquanta was the damn bomb!

by squirrelballs on 5/15/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Maynard and his crew of misfit dynamos got us all warmed up with some blasphemous tunes by Dina Martina before catapulting us into a concert/ comedy show/ John Rambo cameo, Devo on the cello/ Jeff Friedl- holy crap that guy can drum extravaganza of mind blowing entertainment. At the risk of sounding greedy, Again! Again! Again!

    Happy 50th Birthday, Maynard!

by JamiePNation on 5/15/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Cinquanta was a 50th birthday party for Maynard Keenan the lead singer for the bands Tool, Perfect Circle and Pusifer held at The Greek Theatre in LA. The 3 bands on the bill rotated sets while the others hung out in a BBQ party setting on stage. Loved the format and would love to see other bands play like this. a festive atmosphere as all the bands continued to play mini sets though out the evening, it made you feel like they were all jamming together not just playing a set and gone. On a gorgeous spring night hearing the sounds of Perfect Circle, Pusicfer and Failure blowing through the Hollywood Hills you couldn't help but feel like you were apart of one big 50th birthday bash!

    Puscifer and APC rocked!

by keljane on 5/15/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

This show was amazing! We got tickets last minute for the Sunday performance. The seats ended up being fairly close, which was impressive given that we waited to get our tickets. The bands played for a consistently entertaining 3 hours, alternating between performers and bands. The on stage antics including Green Jelly at the end, made the show extra special. While Failure was not the star of the show, they did provide some interesting baselines that I would like to hear again Overall, this was one of the best shows I have ever seen! Great venue, excellent music and performance!

    Cinquantastic!!!

by LeahinSoCal on 5/14/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Friends came from all over America, Canada, Mexico, & Australia to experience this special event. Just to experience the gathering of incredible people was worth the drive up from San Diego [i hate LA], let alone the fact that we were getting treated to APC and Puscifer two days in a row!! Amazing! I count myself one of the lucky ones who were able to see both shows. I can't say one show was better than the other .. for they were very different. -night 1 I experienced with a dear friend, and a group of new friends. -night 2 I was by myself ... and i cried at the beauty which I was witness to. I know one should only turn 50 once, but I want a do-over! Please turn 50 again next year Mr. Keenan !!! Thanks to all the stellar performers ... you gave me two absolutely wonderful evenings, which I won't soon forget.

    Epic performance.

by ToollooT353 on 5/14/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I have been following Tool and MJK since the late 90's due to RATM in know your enemy, and to see this one man Maynard grow and make such great music that sounds like no other bands is Rare in my books; he is one of the all time greatest. CINQUANTA is exactly what I anticipated, especially since it's Maynard's "50" birthday and just to say I attended such a great event at the Greek was a privilege.
