This was my first concert at the Newport and it was a fine venue. Plenty of space for even short folks like myself to get a good view of the stage. I've been looking forward to seeing Matt in concert for years but never had the opportunity, except through his live recordings and archive.org bootlegs. Although he has played hundreds of shows, Matt changes things up a bit for each concert, whether it's complimenting the city where he's playing, pulling an old song out of his repertoire, or breaking out randomly into one of his many covers (and kudos to his band, and especially long-suffering tourmate Aaron Tap for keeping up). Great crowd interaction and plenty of fun without being kitschy or over the top.

About
Matt Nathanson is a folk-rock singer and songwriter from Lexington, Massachusetts. As a solo artist, Nathanson has released 13 studio albums since launching with his 1993 debut, Please. His fifth album, 2003’s Beneath These Fireworks, served as his first major label release, though his 2007 follow-up, Some Mad Hope, achieved his first mainstream chart success behind the Hot 100-charting single “Come On Get Higher,” which would later be certified triple-platinum. Nathanson would hit the Hot 100 twice more with “Faster” and the Sugarland collaboration “Run” from 2011’s Modern Love. He also reached a new career peak at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 for 2013’s Last of the Great Pretenders. In 2022, Nathanson released his 13th album, Boston Accent, capping a prolific run of three full-length releases in three years. Nathanson’s music and extensive covers catalog have appeared across film and television, including The Bachelor, One Tree Hill and the American Pie franchise.

Love, love, loved. Joshua Radin was AMAZING, and I will continue to see him in concert for as long as he plays. The meet and greet afterward was awesome. The song he performed at the end with his guitar player -mindblown Matt Nathanson did a great job as well although the main reason I attended was for Josh. Both were entertaining with the stories they told about their songs
Matt Nathanson
by Nitskeyt on 11/16/13Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5This concert was awesome! Great music! Matt is a funny dude. Almost like a story tellers because he talks about what the songs are about.

I've seen MN three times now and he never disappoints. He has a great stage presence, likes to tell stories and jokes between songs, and gets the crowd involved. He and his band do covers of classic rock songs and also slip in a few mashups (this time they covered "Highway to Hell" and "Under Pressure"). Nothing fancy, just dudes with their guitars who love rock and roll and who want their fans to have a good time.

Rock Show & Standup Comedy
by xianboston on 11/14/13House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5Matt is hilarious and has only gotten better over the years. His playing style shows great variety and his songs are still great. The show skewed a little too heavily toward new material in the setlist, but that was actually a pretty good thing since it encouraged me to revisit a lot of his newer stuff. I'm a huge fan and look forward to seeing him again!
The Whole Package
by Souixieq on 11/12/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5What an entertainer! Matt Nathanson put on a show that was so full of incredible music, entertaining segues and audience participation. Tickled pink!!
AMAZING SHOW
by JulesH on 11/12/13House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5Joshua Radin opened the show and even though I was not familiar with his music he really got my attention with his beautiful songs. His music was very easy to listen to and his stories about his songs really made for a great opener. Matt Nathanson was amazing!! I have been a fan of Matt for the past 10 years and have seen him many times in concert. This show in particular reminded me of the good 'ol days of playing at The Paradise where he did not have time limitations and could interact with crowd and tell stories. His stories and interactions were hilarious and the music is always wonderful to hear live. He always draws you in and makes you feel like you are one of his good friends. I never thought I would hear the song "Answering machine" or one of my favorites "Little Victories". It was so nice to hear those songs again. After leaving a Matt concert, you always feel extremely happy and glad that you made the hour trip to Boston! In my opinion, Matt will always be one of the best artists to see live!
Marvelous Matt
by snowpatrolgirl on 11/12/13House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5This is the 2nd time I have seen Marvelous Matt!! Love his storytelling, cover choices, and his adventures. He sang every song I was hoping to hear. He is funny too. He swears alot but I don't really mind, ha ha. Oh and by the way, I didnt have to drag my boyfriend this time, he wanted to go, even if we are both over 50!!

I love the State Theatre, it is a great venue. This is the second time that I have seen Matt Nathanson here and if he continues to return I will continue seeing him here. Full of life, the show is always entertaining. He makes note of all the young ones who attend with their families and keeps the show clean and respectful. I highly recommend this for a great evening out!!
Great concert!
by ceegables on 11/12/13House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5Every year Matt Nathanson puts on a stellar show! He's so good at getting the crowd energized. He knows what songs to play. Loves that he plays old songs, new songs, and all of his in between. Always such a good show!! Opening act, Joshua Radin, was also great. Been a long time fan of his as welll
What a showman!
by Anonymous on 11/12/13House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5Matt Nathanson has a tremendous stage presence. I wasn't familiar with a lot of his music but it didn't matter. His between songs banter was worth the price of admission. But the music was great too!
Incredibly entertaining!!
by BL1992 on 11/12/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5Matt Nathanson and Joshua Radin are not only incredibly talented performers, but entertainers as well. The small talk in between songs in regards to how they were inspired to write their songs added to the entertainment aspect of it. They are funny and ALL-AROUND TALENTED guys!! This is a show you won't want to miss!
Matt Nathanson rocks the house!
by mom2trio on 11/12/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5Saw Matt last Friday at the State Theater in Portland, ME and he was awesome! Love his music. The hall was great...had great sound. And Matt has great rapport with the audience...very funny!
Outstanding
by JJDKC on 11/11/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5I LOVE his music so couldn't wait to see him in person. Lots of interaction with the crowd that had his fun side on full display. Great entertainer - gifted singer/songwriter. I'd see him again ...
Matt the Entertainer!
by Anonymous on 11/11/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5Great concert, took my 16 year old daughter and 50 year old husband and they both loved it! Matt is not only a great performer, he entertains between songs and can be quite funny! Joshua Radin was good too, but unfortunately I had a difficult time hearing him because the audience was talking so much. I've never been to a concert where people were so rude! I was glad to find out that Joshua was wearing earplugs and did not seem to be aware of the rudeness.
Matt Nathanson always easy on the eyes & ears!
by Anonymous on 11/11/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5I saw Matt in concert in Portland and Boston two years ago. I do believe this concert was his best performance to date! He always provides a great show and this one did not disappoint! He is talented, enjoyable to watch and very entertaining. I always look forward to his Northeast tours and cannot wait for the next one!
