We loved every minute of the King and I. The music was great; the singing great; the costumes, great! We could have stayed at watched a second time!
They all did a phenomenal job! it was just like movie and I enjoyed it very much.
I have seen "The King and I" with Yul Brynner (both the movie and at the theater) - always one of my favorite musicals. It is hard to top Yul Brynner in the role of the King of Siam - however, Andrew Ramcharan Guilarte did a superb job with the role - plus could really sing! Heidi Kettenring also made a fine Anna with lots of energy and charm. I was blown away by the beautiful voices of Megan Masako Haley as Tuptim and Kristen Choi as Lady Thiang. What a pleasant surprise! Devin Ilaw as Lun Tha also was a strong singer. They all did a wonderful job of bringing some of my favorite songs to life. I went with family members ranging in age from 90 down to 16 and we all simply loved it and felt that this was one of the best shows we have seen at the Marriott Theatre.
The King and I at Marriott Lincolnshire Theater was a joy. An excellent production all around with outstanding performances from the entire cast, some truly amazing voices ,beautiful costuming and excellent use of the theater-in-the-round. There seemed to be no bad seats in the house and while we were in the 3rd row,the sight lines from even the farthest seats from the stage appeared to be good.
Great Show. One of the best I've seen at Marriott.
Yul Brynner is the 10 for his portrayal of The King of Siam. Mr.Guilarte a 9.5 for his portrayal of the King of Siam.
"The King and I" at the Marriott Theatre is a stunningly beautiful show! Great actors, great singing and dancing, loved the costumes... it was all just wonderful! Heidi and Andrew are the perfect choices for Anna and the King... and the rest of the cast is amazing, too! I highly recommend seeing it before it closes in a few weeks... you will LOVE it!
Visiting from Boston, we took our Chicago granddaughter age 11, and we all had a wonderful time. Performance was outstanding, and our young one was enthralled.
We were in the 2nd row, and we love theater in the round. The casting was so well done for this production, I especially thought the girl who played Tuptim had a really beautiful voice, it gave me chills every time she sang. It was my 8 year old son's first experience with the story and he loved it, even if sometimes I worried all the romantic parts might be a bit boring for him, he said he really enjoyed the show :) My favorites were the Uzarraga boys, Matthew who played the King's eldest son, he sure knows how to stand tall and play his part convincingly. Also little Zachary, so expressive, and the best and cutest little Buddha I've ever seen :) So glad we drove the 2.5 hours to go see it, and the attached Marriott theater was wonderful and luxurious also. It was a great birthday present to myself, and I look forward to returning to the Marriott Theater in the future.
I admit not being a fan of broadway or musicals, but my wife is and she is correct, there is nothing better than live performances, especially since this is her favorite play and everyone could act and sing. There is an upside to me personally in that I go to these know with no preconceived idea of the plot,so I was the only one who did'nt know that the King dies.Bob Coyle
This was one of the best performances my husband and I've seen in a while - wow - how perfect the music, the actors, the voices - we loved every minute of it. The only thing we ask, and I know this sounds a little cold around the holidays, but please don't jolt us out of our applause and emotional reaction and joy over the performance we've just seen to make us sit down to listen to a pitch for contributions to a particular nonprofit. There are so many other times, ways to do this. (How about during the intermission?) We'll always give money, but can't you do this differently?
Wonderful voices...beautiful costumes...creative choreography...what's not to like?
Loved the play. The actors were wonderful....and the children a delight!
I went to the King and I in December, 2000 on a first date with my "future" husband. It was his birthday (we have been married 12 yrs) and surprised him. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and it brought back such wonderful memories. The King and the teacher played their parts excellently, as did everyone! And the "future king" was something else!
Your production of the King and I was just outstanding. Andrew Ramcharan Guilarte was incredible as the King. He and Heidi Kettering had a wonderful chemistry together. Ms. Kettering has an amazing voice. She is perfect for the part of Anna. She is one of Chicago's amazing actors. To see her in any production is a joy! The King and I is one of the very worth while shows that are currently in the area.
Awesome! Fabulous! Funny! Entertaining!...etc., etc., etc.,
The lead role as the king was superb. His acting, let alone his voice was amazing. The children and wives roles were also breathtaking. Just loved this musical!!!
This was a Fabulous show! The actors were Wonderful and the children in the play were adorable and did a Great job! From the set decorations to the costuming, everything was beautiful and the voices of the actors was infectious that I wanted to sing along. This was the first time I have been to the Marriott Theatre and I Loved it.
We love going to the Marriott theatre. This time our 11 year old granddaughter "asked" to see the King and I. Of course it is always our pleasure to bring the family! The kids in the show were adorable. And the whole performance was terrific! Etc, Etc, Etc.
I was totally engaged in the performance from start to finish.
