Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.
I will definitely see him again! He has a great voice, and the venue was perfect.
The talent, the instruments, the all around craftsmanship of the show was a 10/10 experience! Will be seeing him again
My brother and I attended the Marcus King concert at the Wiltern Theater a couple of nights ago. After having a veggie burger across the street from the venue we were ready to enjoy the concert. I had been informed by my buddy that I was going to really enjoy the band and was anticipating greatness. What a talented band with soulful vocals and jamming musicians. My only critique is that in this day and age we the consumer of concerts should be treated to fine sound quality with no exception. We pay for this handsomely on all levels and with so many concerts these days and for the past 50 years that I've attended concerts sound quality remains an issue. It's not right! Have some pride and make that a priority for all of us.
Such an amazing show! So much enthusiasm and had the audience going!
So excited to see Marcus King & his band. I believe Marcus is the next Jimi Hendrix! He is a great at what he does & he loves doing it! Great concert, if you get the chance to see him, GO! Mood Swings World Tour!
The band was not tight, as they have been in the past. Maybe due to new members? The mix was no good! Couldn't hear the backup singers at all, kick drum was way too high, felt like each instrument was fighting to be heard. Marcus was great! Recommend venue that we can dance at!
Marcus King was amazing. However the music was so loud it hurt my ears and it overpowered Marcus’ voice. It would have been great to be able to hear the words to the songs. Everyone was commenting upon leaving about the sound level.
Excellent show. Opening act JJ Wilde killed it. She has an awesome voice and stage presence. Her lead guitarist was great. Marcus King is a great Showman, who is an awesome guitarist with many songs you’ll love
Marcus King is the real deal. This was my second time seeing him and both shows were excellent. Great guitar playing and great voice.
Marcus put on a great show with no encore. Would definitely go see him again
