  • Play excellent, Venue a Problem

The musical itself is excellent. However the sound system at the Seven Venues in Norfolk was so loud that it felt like a Rock Concert, rather than a Broadway musical and, at least for me, made the show significantly less enjoyable. I was sitting on row L, and it sounded like I was a foot away from the stage. Fine for an outdoor concert but not for a musical. I saw this same production of Mama Mia at the Kennedy Center in August 2024. The tour had just started and the cast was fresh. It was a totally different experience and felt like a Broadway musical. The sound was balanced. The cast seemed more natural. I got the sense at the Norfolk production that they were playing for the laughs and applause, rather than letting those moments occur more naturally within in the musical story line. I’m so glad that I saw this first at the Kennedy Center as the whole experience was more authentic Broadway.

  • Mamma Mia!!! What happened here?

by PTM on 3/11/25Rating: 2 out of 5

I’ve seen this show twice before. Both times we incredible. I’m sorry to say that this performance fell flat. This production seemed very amateur and forced. There were moments that the cast almost connected with the audience but never really achieved it. The only scene that I thought truly reached broadway level was Does Your Mother Know. The kid who played Pepper, Justin Sudderth, nailed it!! He is really the only one who did. Other cast members (Donna, Sophie, the dads, Rosie, Tanya, and Sky) came crossed at trying too hard or just plain lackluster. I will FOREVER love this show and I will absolutely see it again. (With a different cast) Unfortunately, with this performance, the chemistry and cohesiveness that a cast should have, just wasn’t present.

  • Music was great; all else so so

by Vskihome on 3/11/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 3 out of 5

Don’t see the movie first. Sets were the most basic that I’ve seen in a broadway touring show, and I’m still confused about the backdrop. Not a clear perception that it’s Greece on an island. The acting and singing was good but not enough of the dialogue needed to really bond the characters. First touring show that felt more like average community theater to us. Glad I saw it though. You never know what to expect.

Nice theatre but the actual show was long and very boring. Only went because my girlfriend really wanted to go, she loved it but I couldn't wait for it to be over after the first 5 minutes.

  • Waste of an evening

    by Jay S. on 3/10/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 1 out of 5

Was the worst Broadway show to date. The singing was horrible. Out of tune, too loud then can't hear anything. The principle performers pitchy at best. The supporting female performers sang 10x better and had personality to the characters. Never again will attend.

  • Better than Broadway!

by JD on 3/9/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

My family and I had an amazing time at this show! The cast was excellent and 1000% committed to the comedy that this show requires. We highly recommend seeing this touring cast if you have the chance, they make this show what it's meant to be.

A really enjoyable production of a classic. The actors were wonderfully enthusiastic and certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves from start to finish. The audience was excited and involved which truly added fun and energy to the experience. The venue showed well and the attending staff was exceptional! A fantastic snapshot of Norfolk, VA.

The show was simply FANTASTIC! We laughed, we cried and just when it couldn't get any better, the encore was a medley of songs with the whole cast and we danced and sang along. It was a wonderful evening :)

  • Not Engeric

by Smiles on 3/7/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 4 out of 5

Music was outstanding but not the high energy! Sorry to compare to NYC Broadway! I am probably being somewhat unfair.
