  • Wonderful, entertaining, funny show!

I can hardly express how much I enjoyed Mamma Mia in Rochester, NY. This was the second time at the Auditorium Theater that I saw Mamma Mia, and I thought it was great the last time, but I think this time was even better. It was humorous, there was not one weak spot in singing and they did a great job with staging with minimal sets. The costumes were wonderful and we all enjoyed the dancing. Mamma Mia is a fun show anyway, but this one had you laughing and crying all through it. The casting was great, expecially the three "dads". I went with three other women and we all had our "favorite". The lead women were so talented and played their roles so convincingly! Move over Meryl Streep! Thank you for providing us such high quality entertainment!

Overall, the musical was very good. This is my 3rd time seeing it and I love the music and the story. This cast had weaker voices ranges and strength than what I had heard in the past.

  • Mamma Mia is right....

by zodiacdude on 12/13/10Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 3 out of 5

I have to say, I was quite disappointed in this particular production of Mamma Mia. The cast felt like they had no energy for their roles, and no one's voice was particularly strong. Most of the singing was drowned out by the music. A show like this should have had a cast that was much more energetic and enthusiastic about their roles. Disappointing.

The show was great! Sometimes the music drowned out the singers. But, overall it was excellent.

This tour was phenominal! This is my third time seeing this production - and by far this cast was great. From the vocals to the stage presence - WOW. Highly recommend this tour of Mama Mia!

All of the characters were different from past couple of years, so there was some intrinsic disconnect. However Donna was great. Her voice was very strong with a seemingly limitless range. She also brought a new coldness to the part, as what I would associate to her life as a single parent and it corresponding problem of having to do things all by her self. Rosie was different and I was immediately disappointed as she is my favorite character. But it wasn't long before this "new" Rosie won my heart too. All of the three leading men were different and none of them really sparkled in their roles. Sophie sang well, acted well but some physical attributes were annoying, She was significantly shorter than the casted Sky, and at times we could not figure out where her neck went. By the finale we were up screaming, dancing and singing. the reprise of Mamma Mia and Waterloo were great. I would probably never pass on a show, but this was not the best ever.

  • Mama Mia was very good!

The play was wonderful. It was not like the movie - which we loved. So we would say that both versions were great. One downside of the live performance is that the actress who played Sophie was actually dumpy looking. She was over weight and her hair was frumpy. Her appearance took away from the character she played. But she had a great voice, as did all of the actresses and actors in the musical. By far, the actress who played Donna Sheridan had the best voice!

  • Mamma Mia was a Friday Night Special!

    by 1729 on 12/13/10Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 4 out of 5

The show left you Warm & Fuzzy! I saw the movie first, therefore, relayed well to the performance. I only gave a 4 because of faulty acoustics the Mother's role, her words were at times muffled and drowned by the music. The stage changes were great, never missing a beat in story. The last 10 minutes for me were the best.

  • Great Acting and Sound

  • Fun production

Very well done show. Rosie's character was quite the scene stealer. Thought that maybe Donna's mike could have used a little boost volume wise, otherwise the show was spot on technically.

I have seen this play on Broadway and was excited it was coming to my local city. I got tickets, the music was great. The problem was the band, they were to loud. You couldn't hear the performers sometimes because the band was so loud. They really had to struggle at points to be loud enough so that they could be hear. The actress that portrays Sofie is not that good either. The rest of the cast was great - just wish I could have heard them better!
