    Dazzling!

by HFLBill on 12/15/10Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

I was surpised at the sparsity of the set, but the show itself was dazzling. Excellent music and singing, the choreography was mixed (some great, some average). Overall very entertaining. The audience certainly appreciated the opportunity to boogie during the encores.

Great Performance!!! At first I thought the lead singers were a little weak, but after the first few songs they proved me wrong. I was in the back towards the last seats so at time I could not understand what they were saying, but I think that is more from my seat selection. This is my 5th Mamma Mia show and it never gets old. Great Family Event!!!

This was a great show. Their voices and energy were fantastic. I just wish that they had Sophie and Donna resemble the actors in the Mamma Mia movie (Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep). They had these 2 totally different looking. But they did try to "match" the other actors and actresses from the movie but just not these 2 for some reason. But still, overall, the show was great!

    Wonderful, entertaining, funny show!

by Anonymous on 12/15/10Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

I can hardly express how much I enjoyed Mamma Mia in Rochester, NY. This was the second time at the Auditorium Theater that I saw Mamma Mia, and I thought it was great the last time, but I think this time was even better. It was humorous, there was not one weak spot in singing and they did a great job with staging with minimal sets. The costumes were wonderful and we all enjoyed the dancing. Mamma Mia is a fun show anyway, but this one had you laughing and crying all through it. The casting was great, expecially the three "dads". I went with three other women and we all had our "favorite". The lead women were so talented and played their roles so convincingly! Move over Meryl Streep! Thank you for providing us such high quality entertainment!

    Mama Mia was good.

Overall, the musical was very good. This is my 3rd time seeing it and I love the music and the story. This cast had weaker voices ranges and strength than what I had heard in the past.

    Mamma Mia is right....

by zodiacdude on 12/13/10Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

I have to say, I was quite disappointed in this particular production of Mamma Mia. The cast felt like they had no energy for their roles, and no one's voice was particularly strong. Most of the singing was drowned out by the music. A show like this should have had a cast that was much more energetic and enthusiastic about their roles. Disappointing.

    Mamma Mia

by CarrThom on 12/13/10Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

All of the characters were different from past couple of years, so there was some intrinsic disconnect. However Donna was great. Her voice was very strong with a seemingly limitless range. She also brought a new coldness to the part, as what I would associate to her life as a single parent and it corresponding problem of having to do things all by her self. Rosie was different and I was immediately disappointed as she is my favorite character. But it wasn't long before this "new" Rosie won my heart too. All of the three leading men were different and none of them really sparkled in their roles. Sophie sang well, acted well but some physical attributes were annoying, She was significantly shorter than the casted Sky, and at times we could not figure out where her neck went. By the finale we were up screaming, dancing and singing. the reprise of Mamma Mia and Waterloo were great. I would probably never pass on a show, but this was not the best ever.

    Mama Mia was very good!

by FairportViewers on 12/13/10Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

The play was wonderful. It was not like the movie - which we loved. So we would say that both versions were great. One downside of the live performance is that the actress who played Sophie was actually dumpy looking. She was over weight and her hair was frumpy. Her appearance took away from the character she played. But she had a great voice, as did all of the actresses and actors in the musical. By far, the actress who played Donna Sheridan had the best voice!
