About

Embracing the volatility and vulnerability of the real world, LA-based indie-pop duo Magdalena Bay create a reality of their own - one that is equally shimmering as it is self aware. The band have used social platforms to dispatch their music, and what you might call their philosophy, in hypnotic, ephemeral bursts. To Mica Tenenbaum and Matt Lewin, reality can be unmade, manipulated beyond all recognition; their project is as much musical as it is an experiment in pop persona and visual aesthetics. In October 2021, Magdalena Bay released their debut full-length LP, Mercurial World, via Luminelle, to critical acclaim. Written, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by the duo, Mercurial World proposes an abstract theory of time and explores the staggering "what ifs" that make up the human experience. With roots in prog-rock and inspired by bleeding edge producers like Charli XCX and Grimes, the duo creates striking yet self aware soundscapes and visuals that are becoming their true Magdalena-Bay-world signature. With a live show as captivating and dimensional as the music itself, 2022 boasts a sold out North America headline tour, and support dates with the likes of Flume, Porter Robinson and Charli XCX. Approaching actuality as a construct allows Magdalena Bay to enact their own, one that is committed to nothing but expanding the possible.

by Rob on 9/28/24Brooklyn Bowl Nashville - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Got there for the vip which was great got to hear some of their older songs. And got to ask them questions. They were super nice. The main show was electric they were great from beginning to end. Micas vocal were off the charts. Matt and the band was awesome

  • Amazing performance, not a great venue

by Snax on 9/20/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Magdalena Bay has upped their game every time I’ve seen them (third time now). No notes on their performance. Mica’s vocals shined through on the newer music. The stage set was really fun as well. The venue layout was not great with large support beams blocking a majority of the view, and the stage is too low compared to the main pit area. Also I wish there was guidance for people to shower or put on deodorant beforehand. There was one guy in the audience that literally smelled so bad like body odor that everyone that went near him ended up having to move, and it ended up being really distracting. It was a relief when someone lit up a joint to drown out the smell. I’m about to bring a fragrance to these shows to spritz down these people who don’t take care of themselves.

  • Heaps good

by PP on 9/9/24Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

They switch up kill shot halfway through to play a slowed down version as a nod to the TikTok trend which is just really fun.

  • Amazing show

by Sarah v on 9/6/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Love the Fillmore in SF! Mag Bay put on a FLAWLESS show! My one gripe is people just absolutely rush to the merch, so the line was insanneellyyyy long, I hate to wait until mid show to grab something, but not the venues fault!

  • Amazing stage presence

Honestly best concert I’ve been to, they have an amazing stage presence and lots of great visuals and staging overall. Vocals were a little too low.

  • Live audio needs more work

    by X. J. on 10/23/22Rating: 4 out of 5

The performance was great. But the live sound was just not good, vocal was very low and the mixing was messy.

  • Transfers Well

by Riley on 8/8/22Rating: 5 out of 5

The sound and world building of Mercurial World transferred to the stage and both Matt and Mica were at the merch stands meeting fans after the concert and even some before which was really nice

  • Good

The vocals were a bit low. It was a great venue. Wish there were more musicians on stage
