Very cheesy. I felt like I was at a child's puppet play.

  • Wow!!! It's Madagascar Live!

This show, although targeted for children, was extremely entertaining for all ages (up to the 90 year old we brought along)! The music was catchy and the singing was excellent. The costumes really made you forget that there were actors playing the animals. The scenic desgn was MAGNIFICENT. It really made you feel like you were in Central Park, at a subway station, at sea, and stranded on Madagascar!! Even the muppet-like monkeys and lemurs were believable as animals! The show moves along very quickly and dishes up a healthy serving of "eye-candy" the entire time. We observed the children in the audience really loved "Move-it". Our only wish was that there was a program listing the names of the songs, who the actors are, who did the costuming, etc.

  • loved madagascar live !!

My daughter and I took the grandkids ages 5 and 3 to see this and they loved it. Sometimes my grandaughter covered her ears as music was loud at time, but grandson danced to move it move it and we all had a good time. Just need to inform attendees that we are not allowed to take pictures before the event of kids, the one lady was rather rude telling us not to take photographs with cell phones, but tons of people took pictures after we were told not too. Maybe an announcement regarding this as we go in to take our seats.

Not something I would take my husband to - but my 5 year old son really liked it. It is 90 minutes including intermission (so on the short side but okay)

  • Madagascar Live!

Our 5 and 3 year olds loved the show. Great sets and lots of action, singing and dancing to keep them engaged. It was very strange that no playbill of any sort was given out, so audience members have no idea who the 10 members of the cast are. Those that played multiple parts worked hard playing all the roles, but were only adequate performers in most of them. I suspect that the audience is paying top dollar for non-equity performers and by skipping the playbill the audience is not supposed to know that. Otherwise, the show is a good one for small children and a great opportunity to train them to sit and appreciated live theatre.

This performance was ok. I saw Shrek in Dallas in Oct 2010 and it was fantastic. I guess I thought it would have been along the same lines.

  • Madagasgar as good as going to Disney World

by JennyKS on 2/15/11Hobby Center - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

It was my 7 year olds birthday wish to see a "Broadway" show. We went back and fourth looking to see what was coming up, and reasonably priced. We settled on Madagasgar. OMG we had the times of our lives!!!!! From the moment we walked into the theater, we were awestruck! The music was fun, the characters were engaging, and there was humor for all ages. I want to go again!

My 12 year old daughters initial thought was "I'M TOO OLD" to go see Madagascar. However, she soon found out that she really enjoyed the show and had a great time. The characters were fun and interactive with the audience. We loved it!!!!

My two daughters and I took my three year old Grandson Cade to see Madagascar Live. We enjoyed every minute. We had seen the movie so we knew what was going on and every word to the songs! Bought all the stuffed animals! So glad they were available at the show!

  • High School Quality

by HobbyCenter on 2/15/11Hobby Center - HoustonRating: 1 out of 5

After going to see The Lion King and Shrek, I was very excited to take the family to see this performance. The actors did a great job singing, however the choreography, costumes and set made me feel like I was at a high school performance. I would definitely tell you to save your money.

  • Little kids wouldn't mind it

I took my daughter, husband, and mother to see the show. My 3 year old thought it was good, but it didn't garner any special excitement, and she LOVES the movies and soundtrack. Me, my husband, and mother were not impressed with it at all. The choreography was dull, some of the costumes were not great, and the cast playing some of the characters weren't as good either. When compared with other cartoon movies-made-stage-shows, this was one of the ones I've been the least impressed with. And we love the movies...which made it especially disappointing. The best thing about the show was the actor playing King Julian. He was the most believable and the best performer.

  • too scary

by mjdw on 2/15/11Hobby Center - HoustonRating: 2 out of 5

My kids love going to the shows. We attend 4-6 every year. We were really looking forward to Madagascar. We watch both Madagascar and Madagascar 2 all the time and laugh and dance through them and we even have most of the lines memorized. However, right from the start my kids, 4 1/2 and 2 1/2, were very scared. Overall the show is very dark and very loud. Instead of having the light hearted feeling conveyed in the movies even I felt it had more of a ominous undertone. My 2 1/2 year old never got comfortable and I had to leave with him before intermission. The 4 1/2 year old reluctantly returned to the theater and finally felt better when he heard "Move It, Move It" and some other songs. But, when there were no songs he clung to an adult. My older son said he liked it, but overall I would have to say we were disappointed.

  • recommended for 12 and under

this was definitely a kid's show. Really cheesey humor. While it depicted the movie, it was way cheesier. Set design was amateur and the props left something to be desired.

The music was REALLY great! The kids had a wonderful time. I wish DreamWorks would have invested a little more money in the show though. It didn't seem up to "Broadway" standards.

  • by Anonymous on 2/15/11Hobby Center - HoustonRating: 3 out of 5

It was very colorful, good costumes. The actors were great (especially - Gloria)! But music (actually speaker system in theatre) was incredibly loud even for adults. We saw Lion King several years ago and Merry Poppins - it was unbelievable!!! Unfortunately, I can't put Madagascar in the same line with those musicals.
