The hip hop self-starters Macklemore & Ryan have gone far in a short time: they brought thrift stores to the masses with breakout No. 1 single “Thrift Shop,” released their debut album Heist to a No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200, and came out in support of same-sex marriage with gay rights anthem “Same Love.” Combining Macklemore’s thoughtful, funny verses and Lewis’ expertly crafted productions, their unique take on hip hop has struck a major chord with audiences, but what ultimately makes the duo a success has been their ability to write some of the year’s catchiest hooks. As a performer, Macklemore radiates positive energy and delivers his rapid-fire lyrics with crystal clear precision – Lewis takes a supporting role, cueing the beats, hyping the crowd, and engaging in the occasional crowd surf. The pair are on tour in 2013 in support of their debut album, and tickets are in high demand thanks to their reputation for dynamic, must-see live shows.
The Seattle-based duo first joined forces in 2006 when Lewis became Macklemore’s promo photographer, but the focus quickly shifted to music with the release of The VS. series, which included The VS. EP in 2009 and The VS. Redux in 2010. Their 2013 debut The Heist took three years to write and record, and it shows – from the extensive list of collaborators to the appearance of the Seattle Rock Orchestra, the record oozes originality and craftsmanship. In addition to producing, recording, and mixing all of their recordings, Lewis also directs their music videos, including the video for No. 1 single “Can’t Hold Us,” an epic seven-minute-long mini-film that earned them an MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video. As for the music’s point of view, Macklemore isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo of his chosen genre – from questioning the materialism of hip hop culture in “Thrift Shop” to lamenting homophobia among rappers in “Same Love,” these are songs that embrace diversity and endorse keeping an open mind.

What an awesome concert!! Macklemore was awesome!! Great venue!!
Great show, humble and gracious entertainers. I appreciate there wasn't half nude seductive dancers. The backup singers had incredible voices. They were beautifully and appropriately dressed. The show was better than my expectations (and I had high expectations). I like the message of peace, love and fun. Most rappers degrade, belittle or sexualize women. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis appear to treat them/us with respect. I will go to their future shows in Nashville. Thank you for an electric night!
Great show from start to finish! I couldn't believe it was over when it was, it went by so quickly. Stood up the whole time, danced, sang along - high energy, positive, life-affirming - we left feeling like we'd just been let in on a secret. Thanks to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, their band, crew, dancers and also Eric Nally who made "Downtown" one of the highlights of the night for us! Unforgettable and simply amazing. The venue was amazing as well. Not a bad seat anywhere. We'd actually done the backstage tour of the Opry the day before and so when we were there to see the show the next night we felt even more connected. Can't wait for the new album this month! Shark Face Gang ya'll! Oh, and I bought the socks! They rock!
Very energetic show, yet packed with positive messages and meaning as only Macklemore can do it!!! We were excited that he came to Nashville and hope he comes back soon!!!
Amazing performance by a very grateful performer!!! Great role model for our youth!!!
This show was amazing from the word go. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis put on such a great performance. From the dancing to the rapping, the singing and the stage/lighting/graphics it was second to none. The fact that the Opry House is such a sweet venue was just icing on the cake. If someone you like is performing there you should DEFINITELY get a ticket- it will be well worth it.
Not a bad seat in the house; Macklemore and Ryan Lewis did not disappoint; awesome live concert
The show was great. One thing I was vey happy with was the quality of the sound. Not sure if it was the venue or Macklemore and Ryan's doing, but the volume was perfect. Neither the bass or volume overpowered the mic which is hard to come by. The set list was great, there was only one song I was hoping to hear but it didn't really fit the vibe. Macklemore's energy never dropped below 100% the whole time. Overall, very impressed.
Macklemore was honest and inspirational through both his music and his dialogue. He discussed how he's overcome addiction, and chose a path within the music genre that does not glorify violence, drug use, and mistreatment of others, which was great to hear. Even though there were a few F-bombs dropped, it never felt over-done, and so would not hesitate taking my young teenage kids to his next performance. The show was certainly high energy throughout the roughly 100 minute performance, capped off with Macklemore inviting everyone into the isles down front for his last encore song, and him subsequently coming out into (actually onto) the crowd while he sang. Overall great performance and great messages from an inspirational artist.
This show was great! The location was sort of odd for them but there was not a bad seat in the house!
We were front row at the Grand Ole Opry. I'll likely never get that chance again. The energy, the lights, the dancing -- Macklemore brought out everything he could think of. An intimate performance for someone who could've sold out arenas -- thank you Macklemore.
It was awesome. It was at a small arena so there was not a bad seat and the group was as energetic and as excited as the fans were.
Definitely enjoyed the show, but definitely will not sit up top again. Terrible vantage point and also sound was not loud enough way up. Bummed as I had higher expectations for the venue. Glad I got to see Macklemore though.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis surpassed all my expectations for their show at the Grand Ole Opry. The visuals, dancing, live brass section, and Mack's rapping (not over a track!) were all phenomenal. Also, being a Foxy Shazam fan, I was overjoyed seeing Eric Nally come out and noodle himself around the stage, belting out "Downtown". Macklemore's performance was inspiring, exciting, and soooo much fun. He seemed truly happy to be there. If you have the chance, GO SEE HIM.
I attended this concert with my 19 year old son (because his friends couldn't get off work to go) and we had a blast. I know a few of their songs, but my son knows them all. The show was packed with energy and we were on our feet dancing and singing the whole time! Macklemore shared some inspiring messages and I left the show feeling uplifted and happy. Needless to say, my son LOVED the show too and we can't wait to go again!
So much energy. The crowd was alive and dancing to his unifying sound. He was a comedian, and a teacher of peace rolled into one. So much heart! I want to thank him for sharing how he overcame drug addiction and drinking. He said that being clean allows him to be creative. That everyday is a struggle. He dedicates an advice song to his baby during the set that had me dancing. Warmed my heart when he said, they try to teach girls not to be tough but my wife is the strongest person I know. <3 Great job Ryan and Mack. If this show rolls through your town and you need some inspiration, show up and represent. Get your hands up! You will be awestruck.
The venue was perfect. The entertainment was unforgettable. And i wish every event i attend had the same energy and shenanigans.
This was an amazing experience! We went in looking at it as an "experiment" and with our expectations really low because it was offered via Go90 for FREE after registration and entrance based on 1st Come 1st Serve. Boy were we in for a treat! Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and their awesome team really went full throttle. Hands Down BEST show I've seen ever. Both because of the beautiful stage design, amazing dance performances (from ALL involved!), delicious music, and the important and sobering message of Macklemore as an artist. Bottom line. big thank you to all involved for the BEST concert and BEST Sunday night!
This was the best concert I've ever seen! Macklemore put on an amazing show! This venue is a small theatre venu so it made it very intimate and close. When we (the crowd) started yelling "let's get weird" Macklemore started crowd surfing! This was the best night ever! Absolutely unforgettable!!!
As good as it gets - live show with as much energy and crowd enthusiasm as Kid Rock and Bruce Springsteen.
