Ludovico Einaudi on Tour

An Italian pianist whose luscious, minimalist tunes have captured the world's attention, Ludovico Einaudi has enjoyed a lauded career full of pensive music and thrilling, worldly adventures. After finishing his music studies in Milan, Einaudi has traveled extensively, premiering works at the Tanglewood Music Festival, Lincoln Center, UCLA and Teatro alla Scala. In the early ‘10s, he toured the U.S. and Canada for In a Time Lapse, appearing on various radio shows. Einaudi has a rich tradition of recording and releasing live concerts, from his La Scala Concert 03.03.03 to 2009's Live in Prague and 2010's Royal Albert Hall Concert. Additionally, he's participated in many iTunes Festival recordings, including multiple shows in London and a 2019 release from Milan's Piazza Liberty. In a live setting, fans of Einaudi's contemporary classical catalog find themselves transfixed when he and his small band of well-rehearsed instrumentalists take the stage. An aura of mystery (think moody lighting and smoky effects) often accompanies the evocative, sprawling compositions, full of gentle arpeggios and circular chord sequences.

Ludovico Einaudi in Concert

Born in 1955 in Turin, Piedmont, Einaudi was raised in a highly artistic household — his father was a publisher of novels, while his mother was a pianist. The young Einaudi learned piano and guitar, beginning to compose at a young age. In his teens, he trained at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan, eventually studying with the famed Italian postmodernist Luciano Berio. Graduating from school and premiering works everywhere from Italy to Los Angeles, Einaudi embarked on a successful recording career with Decca Records. He released his first solo piano album, Le Onde, in 1996 to much acclaim, eventually being certified gold in Italy. 2004's Una mattina would prove to be his big breakthrough, charting in Italy and Belgium and going gold in Italy again. 2009's Nightbook used synthesizer sounds to create an atmospheric vibe that built on his repetitive structures, poppy strings and percussion, and playful melodies. 2013's In a Time Lapse was among his most successful records, charting in over 10 countries and going platinum in the Netherlands, silver in the UK and gold in Italy. Einaudi is also well-known for his film scores, which have earned him many distinctions, including Best Soundtrack at the Italian Music Awards, and even an Oscar nomination.

    Speechless

by Meditaeshun on 6/21/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The performance was absolutely amazing, I have wanted to see Ludovico live for years and it was even more incredible than I could have imagined. The arrangements were executed perfectly, woven together beautifully and were truly moving. The staff at the Fox Theater on the other hand... Apparently, the door staff thought allowing doors to open and slam close during the performance was fine and the guard at the Loge door thought it was a great time to watch videos on his phone with the volume turned up. That said, those interruptions were not enough to tarnish an amazing performance from a spectacular composer.

    Captured

by Susan on 6/21/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Ludovico is wonderful and had us sitting in our seats for 2 hours not wanting to breathe, move or cause any stir. His music took me away to places in my mind that I needed to be. Saw him in 2019 and he just gets better !

Another year, Another Bravo performance by Ludovico

by SM on 6/20/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The overall experience and performance was great by Ludovico. The grroup performed over the time and came back to perform additional single piece after standing ovation. My only feedback for Fox Theater, Oakland for the classical concerts would be to close the door when pieces are being played, this is a standard practice I have observed in other theters (SF, Seattle and London).

    Simply fabulous

by Shailesh on 6/20/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Ludovico Einaudi music transports you to a different world. It’s like getting connected to Almighty. Meet & Greet was great chance to meet the maestro in person and have some memorabilia signed by him and have a picture taken along with him. I wish meet and greet event was scheduled before the show.

    Beautiful performance!

    by K. E. on 6/20/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Einaudi started the evening playing solo behind a seer curtain with projections of the sea floor, schools of fish and a forest. The projections help set the mood for the music. He was later joined by three musicians who were in perfect sync with him. Einaudi played two hours for us…. a fantastic experience!

    Music Great, Venue Horrible

by Andare on 6/20/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Fox Theater was a terrible venue for this event. The show started 30 minutes late, and they continued to seat latecomers 30 minutes after that, which was very distracting. We sat in the balcony, which had one of the worst layouts I’ve ever experienced. Tiny, cramped seats that were very far from the stage - which doesn’t make sense when you’re there to see a solo pianist. Not sure why this venue was chosen for this event, the tickets were way too expensive for the experience most people received.

    Transported

by Jimmieoakland on 6/20/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Beyond his music (which is excellent), Ludovico set the stage to take us to the land of dreams. Playing at the bottom of the ocean? This outrageous idea alone, realized in the images, astonished me. And his gossamer like playing was spot on. How much effect to assign to the music or the setting is difficult. But the combination provided an evening of enchantment.

    Beautiful

    by whit.knee on 6/20/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Ludovico is a brilliant musician and the feelings you hear in his songs really comes through when you see him live. For this tour (the Underwater Tour) there were two dates, one solo and one where he was accompanied by other musicians. I opted for the one with other musicians, as much as I love a piano solo the strings bring another level to the show. If you're a fan he's a good one to catch if you have the opportunity.

    Bravissimo!!!!!!

by Adeline on 6/20/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Ludovico Einaudi in person is transporting in the best way!!! I wouldn't hesitate to see him again. He played nonstop for a bit over two hours without a misstep that I could tell. His solo performance was lovely. The music that included a cello, viola, and slight percussion was also lovely. Lovely hardly describes it, but as someone who does play the piano well enough to know what I am hearing the experience was lovely in every way. Thank you, Mr. Einaudi!!!! The venue had excellent sound quality, I had great seats with a clear line of sight not far from the stage, and the art deco atmosphere is lovely. It was easy to get to as well.

    Amazing, as was the last

by Randolph The Yellow on 6/18/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Another amazing show by Ludovico. I saw him in 2019, but this may have actually been better, sound-wise. I love how his shows now incorporate more than just the piano. Though, his pieces are still timeless; Nuvole Bianche, Una Mattina, I Giorni, etc. The amount of content he provided was more than the price of admission (almost 2.5 hours). One of the best of this generation. I would definitely see him again anytime he comes to Seattle.

by Kailyn on 6/18/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

They have a way to make you feel like you’re the only one in the room. It was so passionate, you could see it in their faces and it filled my soul to the top. A few tears dropped multiple times! Once in a lifetime experience, 100,000% recommend!!

    Amazing performance

by Heather on 6/18/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

This was my first time seeing Ludovico Einaudi perform so I wasn't really sure what to expect. The show was incredible! Not only did he play songs from his newest album, he also played some of his most popular pieces. The musicians that he brought in were extremely talented. Ludovico's playing was not only technically proficient, but also conveyed a wide array of emotions. The concert was much longer than I expected (over two hours) but that was a huge bonus for me. My only complaint is that I wish the venue had made an announcement before the show asking people not to take flash photography or to walk in and out during the show. Each time the doors opened, it spilled light into the room which really took away from the experience. I definitely want to see Ludovico Einaudi perform again but hopefully at a different venue next time.

This show opened up my heart & moved me to the core. I’m not typically a piano “fan” but love his music so bought the tickets on a whim. The entire performance exceeded my expectations. 10/10! 👏🏻
