Ludovico Einaudi on Tour

An Italian pianist whose luscious, minimalist tunes have captured the world's attention, Ludovico Einaudi has enjoyed a lauded career full of pensive music and thrilling, worldly adventures. After finishing his music studies in Milan, Einaudi has traveled extensively, premiering works at the Tanglewood Music Festival, Lincoln Center, UCLA and Teatro alla Scala. In the early ‘10s, he toured the U.S. and Canada for In a Time Lapse, appearing on various radio shows. Einaudi has a rich tradition of recording and releasing live concerts, from his La Scala Concert 03.03.03 to 2009's Live in Prague and 2010's Royal Albert Hall Concert. Additionally, he's participated in many iTunes Festival recordings, including multiple shows in London and a 2019 release from Milan's Piazza Liberty. In a live setting, fans of Einaudi's contemporary classical catalog find themselves transfixed when he and his small band of well-rehearsed instrumentalists take the stage. An aura of mystery (think moody lighting and smoky effects) often accompanies the evocative, sprawling compositions, full of gentle arpeggios and circular chord sequences.

Ludovico Einaudi in Concert

Born in 1955 in Turin, Piedmont, Einaudi was raised in a highly artistic household — his father was a publisher of novels, while his mother was a pianist. The young Einaudi learned piano and guitar, beginning to compose at a young age. In his teens, he trained at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan, eventually studying with the famed Italian postmodernist Luciano Berio. Graduating from school and premiering works everywhere from Italy to Los Angeles, Einaudi embarked on a successful recording career with Decca Records. He released his first solo piano album, Le Onde, in 1996 to much acclaim, eventually being certified gold in Italy. 2004's Una mattina would prove to be his big breakthrough, charting in Italy and Belgium and going gold in Italy again. 2009's Nightbook used synthesizer sounds to create an atmospheric vibe that built on his repetitive structures, poppy strings and percussion, and playful melodies. 2013's In a Time Lapse was among his most successful records, charting in over 10 countries and going platinum in the Netherlands, silver in the UK and gold in Italy. Einaudi is also well-known for his film scores, which have earned him many distinctions, including Best Soundtrack at the Italian Music Awards, and even an Oscar nomination.

Waited 2 years for this due to Covid and Ludovico did not disappoint. The show was captivating you could hear a pin drop as everyone listened intently in a trance. Absolute pleasure, please come back to Canada for another visit!

    2nd time is incredible!

by Margpegg on 7/9/22Roy Thomson Hall - Toronto

I had just attended the New York show the previous week. I considered it to be one of the most memorable events I had ever had experienced. I had purchased the Toronto tickets before COVID and couldn't wait for this concert to arrive. Roy Thompson Hall is beautiful and the staff so friendly, efficient, and organized. I was in the first row, wow! You definitely have a new appreciation of the music. The show was slightly different this time. The violinist that was so prominent at the New York show was not there. I was thinking that perhaps this performance would not live up to the last one I saw. Was I so wrong! Mr. Einaudi was amazing, to see him play that close was unforgettable. The cellist that was an accompaniment in the first show now was a focal point, he played all the parts that the violinist had done in New York. Wow, to see and hear the collaboration was unbelievable. I feel I have witnessed two unique and special performances. I will remember them forever and I am so grateful to have been able to see Mr. Einaudi in person.

Could not go after two reschedules

by M on 7/9/22Roy Thomson Hall - Toronto

I did not see the performance. I'm providing this at the request of ticketmaster. This was rescheduled twice due to Covid. I was over the moon to attend this, and was even provided backstage passes by management. I authored an epic duet and Divenire was one of the songs that inspired the epic journey. Ludovico's management team was kind enough to provide backstage passes so that I could not only thank him but gift him signed copies. After two reschedules (which was not the fault of Ludovico and team), this new date would not allow me to attend due to Canada's new restrictions. So I was unable to connect and see this performance and the ticket was wasted.

    Amazing Concert!

by Roxanna on 7/5/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Performance was great as usual. I loved the venue as well. I just wished they could impose some kind of policy to ban use of phones for photos and videos during a concert like this. The music and ambience was very relaxing but people in front of me holding up their phones the whole time and people behind me taking photos with flash was very distracting.

    Impossible to enjoy!

by Edita on 7/5/22Beacon Theatre - New York

I had been looking forward to this performance but Beacon Theater employees made it impossible to enjoy it: repeated loud laughters in hallway, super loud constant walkie-talkie conversations, constant shuffling of what sounded like ice being transported, and no one there to monitor the doors to ensure attendees who were coming and going didn’t disturb the rest of us. Einaudi’s music is rather soft, and the constant distractions took away from the experience.

    Incredible concert

    by K. K. on 7/3/22Beacon Theatre - New York

It was a magical night. The music of Ludovico Einaudi was just so amazing combined with the visual effects it was a great experience. The audience was very quiet during the play and burst into ovations during the breaks. Minute long standing ovations at the end. It was magnificent!

Amazing artist - shocking venue management and operations

by Morgan on 7/1/22Beacon Theatre - New York

Delayed start, noisy in hallways outside venue throughout the performance. Security using loud walkie talkies, yelling to each other, bar clearing out bottles and cans. People allowed to come and go throughout the performance which was disruptive and noisy with heavy banging doors. A disgrace relative to the talent and beauty of Ludovico.

    An experience of a lifetime

by Margpegg on 7/1/22Beacon Theatre - New York

Words cannot describe the astounding performance I witnessed by Mr Einaudi! The concert was dreamlike. The combination of soaring beautiful music and amazing visualizer kept the audience speechless! Even though I am very familiar with his compositions, every note played was like hearing it for the first time. His music touched everyone's soul! And when you couldn't imagine it being any better, Mr. Einaudi took to another level when he played with an incredible violinist, cellist, and percussionist. He selected pieces from the his new album, he selected pieces from his astounding previous works. They blended seamlessly, it could not have been better. The audience gave him a standing ovation, cheering wildly, not just once, but each of the 3 times he returned to the stage. We all knew that what we experienced that night enriched our lives forever. See him perform in person, as many times as you can. I know I will. Cannot wait to see him next week in Toronto.

    Breathtaking!

by JaiMa on 7/1/22Beacon Theatre - New York

Ludovico’s concert was stunning! For the first hour, I felt truly Underwater with the dreamscape of his stage production. He satisfied my every need to hear his best compositions by playing for close to 3 hours. When his accompanying musicians entered the stage later in the performance, they enhanced the greatness of this magnificent piano virtuoso with their viola, cello and percussion. Bravo!

    Amazing

by Lisa on 7/1/22Beacon Theatre - New York

It was a totally amazing concert. Somehow Ludovico Einaudi has made his sedate, introspective music into music that appeals to an audience in their 20s and 30s. There was whooping and cheering in what is, in essence, a classical piano concert. And it was absolutely deserved and appropriate. He conveyed passion and an intensity making it a true “performance” in the best possible sense. This concert was a reminder that live music is a necessity for a good life.

    Interesting Compositions & Performance

by Teresita on 6/21/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I enjoyed the music & performance of Ludovico Einaudi very much. I would have liked a program. Many people were getting up for drinks, etc. and talking during the performance. This was disappointing to me. I am not used to this having attended symphony, opera, and theater performances.
