Ludovico Einaudi on Tour

An Italian pianist whose luscious, minimalist tunes have captured the world's attention, Ludovico Einaudi has enjoyed a lauded career full of pensive music and thrilling, worldly adventures. After finishing his music studies in Milan, Einaudi has traveled extensively, premiering works at the Tanglewood Music Festival, Lincoln Center, UCLA and Teatro alla Scala. In the early ‘10s, he toured the U.S. and Canada for In a Time Lapse, appearing on various radio shows. Einaudi has a rich tradition of recording and releasing live concerts, from his La Scala Concert 03.03.03 to 2009's Live in Prague and 2010's Royal Albert Hall Concert. Additionally, he's participated in many iTunes Festival recordings, including multiple shows in London and a 2019 release from Milan's Piazza Liberty. In a live setting, fans of Einaudi's contemporary classical catalog find themselves transfixed when he and his small band of well-rehearsed instrumentalists take the stage. An aura of mystery (think moody lighting and smoky effects) often accompanies the evocative, sprawling compositions, full of gentle arpeggios and circular chord sequences.

Ludovico Einaudi in Concert

Born in 1955 in Turin, Piedmont, Einaudi was raised in a highly artistic household — his father was a publisher of novels, while his mother was a pianist. The young Einaudi learned piano and guitar, beginning to compose at a young age. In his teens, he trained at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan, eventually studying with the famed Italian postmodernist Luciano Berio. Graduating from school and premiering works everywhere from Italy to Los Angeles, Einaudi embarked on a successful recording career with Decca Records. He released his first solo piano album, Le Onde, in 1996 to much acclaim, eventually being certified gold in Italy. 2004's Una mattina would prove to be his big breakthrough, charting in Italy and Belgium and going gold in Italy again. 2009's Nightbook used synthesizer sounds to create an atmospheric vibe that built on his repetitive structures, poppy strings and percussion, and playful melodies. 2013's In a Time Lapse was among his most successful records, charting in over 10 countries and going platinum in the Netherlands, silver in the UK and gold in Italy. Einaudi is also well-known for his film scores, which have earned him many distinctions, including Best Soundtrack at the Italian Music Awards, and even an Oscar nomination.

    Incredibly under water…

    by Maurice on 6/12/22

The marvelous complexity of simplicity. Synchronous or asynchronous? Simplify beautiful and pacifying. You almost feel under water, like if nature became music. A much needed experience in our time. Could be the new classical music of our time.

    Sublime

    by Ketan on 12/6/19

To hear the perfection that is his music played live flawlessly was an unforgettable experience. I didn't expect the level of detail he would have recreating his music with the few people he had with him but they were all so talented. A must see.

    A Must See

by Michelle C. on 6/23/19McCaw Hall - Seattle

This was my family’s first piano concert. The venue was beautiful. The music was enchanting. There were two other performers, a violinist and a cellist, who complemented Ludovico’s mastery of the piano. Their performance was a memorable experience for my whole family, including our 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son. (As a parent it is important to note how unbelievably quiet the concert is, and knowing your child’s ability to sit quietly through a 2 hour concert is key.)

    Excellent performance

    by A.C. on 6/22/19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The performance was executed with maestry. Not only Ludovico Einaudi playing was superb but his team at viola, violin, cello, mix and lighting brought the performance to a very high level.

    Totally recommended - New album

by Paul on 6/22/19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Although I was expecting he would performer his classics songs, it was really impressive. It is just Ludovico + violin + cello - the same musicians of the album, performing pretty much the 7 days walking with a dynamic lighting show. On the solo encore he covered some pieces of his classics, finishing with the best Nuvole Bianche. Totally recommended.

Ludovico, Federico, and Redi were amazing--as always . ..

by MM on 6/22/19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The music was perfection, but there were many people in the audience who pulled out their phones to take pictures, videos, and scroll social media. Some people forgot to turn off their phones. It was super obnoxious! I think an announcement before the performance to remind people to turn off their phones and keep them out of sight would be great. Music this good needs to be experienced without devices!

Two words come to mind phemonenal and incredible

by AnItalianSon on 6/21/19McCaw Hall - Seattle

I have been a passionate Einaudi fan for years and had missed earlier opportunities to hear him play in person. It is incredible to watch him be at one with his music through the keys/strings of his piano. It was a seamless performance as his improvisations on many of his earlier works was beautiful to experience. The new music he played clearly embodied the namesake of this tour. I took a 'walk' with him and it was spiritual. My 10 year old granddaughter was my date in place of her recently passed grandmother. Hannah plays piano and violin. The day after her experience, my daughter-in-law texted me that Hannah was 'on cloud 9' after experiencing Ludovico's beauty. Phenomenal Incredible

    Wonderful music, weak presence.

by RW on 6/21/19McCaw Hall - Seattle

The music was wonderful but I would have liked some interaction with the audience. Additionally, the lighting was poor so it was difficult to see the musicians playing.

    Einaudi - Modern Day Master

    by G. E. on 6/21/19McCaw Hall - Seattle

Loved Einaudi's performance, the music was stunning. The backdrop was abstract and simple to allow the listener to be in a zen state while consuming the beautiful music. Three very talented musicians.

    Impressive

by PhaLanX on 6/21/19McCaw Hall - Seattle

It was my first piano concert ever and I was not disappointed. I had been listening to Einaudi's performances online for sometime so decided to attend his concert. I specially enjoyed the combination of violin and piano. I do not know violinist's name but he was amazing too. Ending of the concert could have been little better. Einaudi played one of his famous tracks Nuvole Bianche but toned it down for some reason.

    Worth the 300 mile drive

    by S. on 6/21/19McCaw Hall - Seattle

The theater was beautiful. The whole concert was a very well arranged experience. The lighting was meant to enhance the performance, not be the performance. The music was incredible. The passion for the music was palpable. They played for 2 amazing hours. We drove 300 miles to see this concert and it was 100% worth it.

    The Hall needs renewal!

    by B. D. on 6/19/19Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall - San Francisco

Louise M Davies Symphony Hall should renew the seats. They were pretty uncomfortable. 2 hours sitting felt like 20 hours economy class flight. :) I'm serious. My back hurt. On Ludovico's side, he left before playing his most popular 2 pieces, he came back, he stayed another 30 mins and finally played his famous music.

What a beautiful night with Ludovico Einaudi !

by Tanya on 6/18/19Jacobs Music Center's Copley Symphony Hall - San Diego

It is quite obvious that Ludovico Einaudi loves his music so much! It is just as obvious that he loves his audience, and those in his symphony. If he is wondering whether we love him in return, well, let me just say this; "We will see you again next year, Ludo!"

    Einaudi in Chicago

by Ted on 6/18/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The Cadillac Palace is a gorgeous performance space. Ludovico started a little late. Just him at a grand piano, a cellist, and a violinist/violist. Minimalist backdrops. Great acoustics. Played for nearly 2 hours without pause. For his encore, played some of his older music. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts in my time and this ranks near the top.
