Louisville Cardinals Men's Basketball History
An excellent college basketball program across all eras, Louisville is notable especially for its continuity. Bernard "Peck" Hickman (1944-67) went 443-183 during his time in the ‘Ville; John Dromo (1967-71) went 68-23 during his brief run as coach, which ended when a heart attack forced him to retire; Denny Crum (1971-2001) went to six Final Fours, won two national championships and left campus with a shiny 675-295 record; Rick Pitino (2001-17) added another Final Four appearance while going 416-143 overall.
The Crum era in particular is regarded as one of the great coaching tenures in the history of the sport. After serving as the top assistant to the legendary John Wooden at UCLA, Crum took the Cardinals to the Final Four — the first coach to make a Final Four in his first season as a head coach. He earned the nickname "Cool Hand Luke" for his demeanor and "Mr. March" for all the deep postseason runs his teams produced over the years. His offenses were famous for their post play — "Never Nervous Pervis" Ellison was the rock of the Cardinals' second national championship team — and his defenses were a frenzy of switches. The style of play was perhaps ill-suited to the era of the three-pointer, but he was still winning games into the mid ‘90s, including a 26-9 season in 1996-97.
Currently, the team is led by coach Pat Kelsey.

Louisville Cardinals at KFC Yum! Center
Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center seats more than 22,000 fans, making it the second-largest college hoops arena in the country. The student section is known as The Ville'ns, and they keep the stadium lively. To juice their homecourt advantage, the Cardinals have made a habit of staging "color" events — "White Outs," "Red Outs" and "Black Outs" — during which fans are encouraged to wear the same color to games.
Tickets for the 2025-26 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the Louisville Cardinals.

Great experience at the game. Glad that I got tickets for it. Cards Baby!!!
It was my first time at the YUM Center and it was a great experience. A very good game with good seats.
Great seats, great bar area, good game. Enjoyed the entire experience.
You expect to see a 40 minute scrimmage, you pay for 40 minutes and you get 20 minutes of actual game time and a 10 minute running clock. Not much of a game like it usually is haven’t missed a red and white scrimmage in years but this may be the last one if it’s gonna be 20 minutes then half time and the game is basically over. Don’t waste your time or money if it’s going to be like this next season. Love seeing the players play but not worth everyone’s drive then pay for parking for half a game.
Not pertaining to the game but the ticket process. The first two events I was able to pick my section and seat. This event my seats were picked for me. I did not like this process of getting tickets AT ALL!! I have no idea why they changed the format and I tried several times to change the setting but it wouldn't let me. My seats were ok but not where I wanted to be. Signed, Unhappy Fan
The only thing missing was a win. Poor Cardinals were not a winner.
The Yum Center is an amazing basketball venue and the lower level was filled with 11,000 passionate and knowledgeable U of L fans. Mississippi State played one of their best games of the year and won the game in dominating fashion. We had a great time but we were so engaged in the game that we never made it to the concession stand to enjoy some of their KFC original recipe goodness. HailState
Had a great time. Seats were excellent. The fans were really into the game & it was great to have real fans in the floor seats instead of the corporate people who are only there to impress.
Seats we affordable and the venue was perfect for the event.
Amazing experience! The crowd atmosphere was so fun! And the Yum Center is unbelievable worth the price of admission to go view all it has to offer and the views!
This place is massive. Food is very overpriced, but great views no matter where you sit.
Ditto, in fact, would have enjoyed more but season is over.
Game was fantastic! KFC Yum Center is the best place for sports in the land. Mobile ticket plan was a disaster. Had to eventually get 2 of 4 tickets by going outside and back-in to Customer Service to get those 2 printed. :-(
The Yum center is very nice. The usher are nice too.
Great to see the Cards win. Wonderful atmosphere, super fans, very enjoyable evening.
We had a great time at the game even though it was not the NCAA tournaments. The KFC Yum Center is by far the best arena around to attend any events.
This was the first time we had been to the KFC YUM Ctr, and it was great!! Very nice facility and game was good(would have been better if Cards would have won!!), but entertainment in between time outs was great too. Definitely would go again!!
Ticket master made it easy to get the seats but $85 for ten rows from the top.....not good!! Never do that again....geez...
Awesome seats had a great time! We love the yum center!
Wish the Cards would have won but still had a great time.
