The Los Angeles Philharmonic, affectionately called the LA Phil by concertgoers, is one of the most forward-thinking symphony orchestras in the country, as beloved by music lovers for its visionary programming as it is for its location in Frank Gehry's iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall. Originally founded in 1919, the Los Angeles Philharmonic emerged from relatively humble beginnings to become one of the world's premier symphony orchestras. Over the years, many notable conductors have led the orchestra, including Zubin Mehta, Andre Previn, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. In 2003, the LA Phil's popularity spiked after a move from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to Frank Gehyr's sculptural Walt Disney Concert Hall, which boasts world class acoustics and a one-of-a-kind organ designed by the architect. Celebrated young conductor Gustavo Dudamel took the reins in 2009, paving the way for the LA Phil's continued presence at the vanguard of concert music.
The performance was, as much as we could hear, excellent. The venue, however, was seriously disappointing! Midway through the performance we were circled by a group of noisy, uninterested teenagers who were there presumably as recipients of a community outreach program. They had no interest in the performance and their need to talk, move and jump from row to row thoroughly destroyed the balance of the evening.
Fireworks are always spectacular. The performances of the philharmonic of swan lake and the 1812 overture are always very well done.

I had been looking forward to this event for years and finally went on my bday this year. The performance was simply spectacular. The crescendo from tchaikovsky's more tame classics to his immortal 1812 overture with the usc marching band and fireworks was, we'll, spectacular. I couldn't keep the smile off my face!
I've wanted to go to this show for years and never managed to pull it off, and I'm 68 yrs old and I love fireworks and USC. It lived up to all my expectations and then some.Not to mention the music was great as Dudamel and the Phil always are.
Dudamel was brilliant and what a gorgeous setting at the iconic Hollywood Bowl. Not a bad seat in the house. Even in the bench seats you get a great view and sound. Bring your own Food, wine, cheese, crackers and a beautiful view of the Hollywood sign. Don't park at the bowl and relax by taking a shuttle. We really enjoyed ourselves and the music, ballet and fireworks were fantastic.
Pros: Great performance, great seats. Sound was amazing, no echoing. Absolutely the best romantic date to take your girlfriend to. You can bring your own food and alcohol. This is my 3rd annual Tchaikovsky concert. Unforgettable every time. Cons: PLEASE (for the love of all that's holy) don't bring loud bags. It ruins it for everyone. Also, too many people trying to film too much on their terrible old smartphones without even knowing how to dim the screen or turn off the flash. None of your friends or relatives will ever watch that crappy video, honestly.
What a perfect night listening to Tchaikovsky conducted by Gustavo Dudamel with outstanding dancers. There was a slight breeze and the stars were bright. Marvelous time. Not to mention fireworks.
The event was just perfect and the fireworks spectacular. We lucked out with a beautiful evening.
Have been to this event for a few years now and it gets better every year. I have been to some other venues with a similar theme and this is by far the best!
The music was spectacular, Dudamel is always fun and exciting to watch and listen, and the fireworks working in tangent with the music is now the only way I would love to watch fireworks with music. I will be attending a concert like this again.

Very beautiful, great summer event. For anybody, who loves beautiful classical music & ballet, this was a fantastic event ! I love Hollywood Bowl too & go to a lot of events there. Fireworks in the end were spectacular !!! Must go summer concert for sure. I am happy we did go.
The Hollywood Bowl has to be one of the best venues in the country! Such a wonderful location, the perfect atmosphere, etc. The Tchaikovsky Spectacular is always a thrill. Wish more people would read what to do/not to do at a Philharmonic show (showing up late, opening chip bags, etc.). Be sure to check out the Philharmonic at the Bowl! Thank you for an always fabulous performance!
What an amazing evening! Before the performance, we ate a delicious salad from the snack bar, but it was sit-down restaurant quality, For years while growing up, I heard Tchaikovsky's music in my ballet classes, so I LOVED the music played by the Philharmonic. Then we were delighted by breathtaking dancing by members of the American Ballet Theater! What a great surprise! Later, when the huge USC Trojan Marching Band joined into the celebration, the spectacular fireworks and music were mesmerizing! Experiencing this show had been on my bucket list for years, and the warm evening under the stars lived up to all my expectations and more! It was perfection!
The entire evening was enchanting and enthralling. I cannot pretend to understand the story line but this imaginative presentation was breathtaking.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We loved the ballet performances that accompanied the LA Phil's performance of Swan Lake pieces. The fireworks were amazing and were accompanied by the USC Marching band - WOW! We went to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and it was worth it!!
A spectacular performance by the LA Phil Harmonic in the relaxed, beautiful setting of the Hollywood Bowl. Pack a picnic basket with all your favorite goodies, and don't worry about getting a sitter because this is an event that the kids will love too! Remember to avoid the parking headache, and take the shuttle.

Awesome night. Awesome interpretation. I've coming to see this for the past three years and it is my intention to keep doing it every single year for as long as I can. Words cannot describe how amazing this show is.
