About

What do Local Natives sound like?

If you distilled California into soundwaves and vibrations, it might resemble the sonic and spiritual interplay of the Los Angeles quintet--Taylor Rice [vocals, guitar], Kelcey Ayer [vocals, keys, percussion, guitar], Ryan Hahn [guitar, keys, mandolin, vocals], Matt Frazier [drums], and Nik Ewing [bass, keys, vocals].

Hills and valleys of six-string bliss, a coastal spray of neon keyboards, and sundrenched melodies comprise a growing catalog of entrancing and engaging anthems by the band. Based in Los Angeles, the group progressed their sound over the course of three full-length albums, Gorilla Manor [2009], Hummingbird [2013], and, most recently, Sunlit Youth [2016]. The latter received praise from Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, The Guardian and many more. In between countless sold out shows and festival appearances - including a standout Coachella 2017 set - they've graced the stages of Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show With James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more.

That's what Local Natives sound like.

    Even better than expected!!

by KJHill on 8/8/10The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

Local Natives rocked out and they were AMAZING!! Also, the 2 bands who opened for them were really good too. It was a sick show--they played all of their songs and they all honestly sounded even better live than on the album. Lots of good energy and the band had just as much fun as the crowd which is always a good thing! Bottom line--they rocked and I will definitely see them next time they're around and hopefully they stay on the music scene for a long time! AWESOME SHOW!!

Governor's Island is incredible. If you have a ticket to see a show there, the water taxi ride is free over to the island. I would suggest getting to the show early because it's an easy way to explore the island for free. Be discreet about it, but me and my friends totally walked around for two hours while waiting for the actual show to start. Doors opened at 6, which is when we got there, but the show didn't go on until 8. As for Local Natives, they were incredible as well. Very good live. I enjoy how they harmonize together. Everyone in the band sings and it's almost like a giant group sing along or something. So cool. I'd pay to see them again and hope I get to see them again when they come to NYC in October.

    Local Natives rocks

by CarolNY on 8/8/10The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

Amazing show with an even more perfect scenery at the beach in Gov. Island in NYC. Different from more experienced bands, they were competent enough to release their first album fully with outstanding songs. The show was simply amazing!

Local Natives + Governor's Island = Concert Bliss

by gishrhino on 8/8/10The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

What a gorgeous day! Event staff were polite, courteous, and did a great job of orchestrating the transportation of the 3,600 ticketholders to and from the venue on Governor's Island. Food and drinks were readily available from multiple locations around the beach, keeping lines short, and we couldn't ask for better weather in which to throw down a blanket in the sand and listen to great live music! Local Natives, We Barbarian and Young Man all put on fantastic sets. I'll definitely be going back to Governor's Island for summer shows!

    pretty good. Great performance.

by jananc on 5/21/10Mojos - Columbia

Love the performance and the venue. WAY too much sing along from the audience, and the venue was so intimate, that it was sometimes hard to hear the band... so that part sucked. But, it was good. GREAT town! Columbia MO has a lot to offer.

    Local Natives w/ Suckers Rocked!

by krisv on 5/13/10The Basement - Columbus

A couple of firsts last night: first time at The Basement and first time seeing both Local Natives and Suckers bands. Overall, I'd say the night was excellent. The venue was perfect for an intimate night with both acts, it being small and the stage inches from your fingers. Suckers began the evening with a set list that made me dance and want to buy their album stat (doesn't actually come out until June). Moving on, Local Natives pleasantly surprised me. Don't get me wrong–I'm in love with their album, but with as much hype as they've been receiving lately I had to come with some reserve, right?! Well, the hype is due. They're great musicians with great songs and they seemed super personable and genuinely glad/happy/elated to be in town. After they came back for their encore song (Sun Hands) they mentioned they were surprised that most of us knew every single word to every single song, and they had not even been to Columbus before. I certainly hope both acts come back to Columbus again; I definitely want to see them again!
