  • Lizz was Fantastic. Some “fans”, not so much.

by Luigi on 2/16/20Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

I’ve been a fan of Lizz Wright since first seeing her LIVE in Chicago 2005. She never disappoints. However, what did disappoint were “fans” near who kept talking loud enough to hear. Worse, is that the Birchmere allows the audience to take photographs AND EVEN VIDEO of the artist. This sucks! It’s distracting for anyone near those doing it, and I think it steals from the artist. At most, only a non-flash still photo of a performing artist should be allowed. Never video in this intimate dinner show setting.

  • Jaw Dropping Performance

by JLM on 2/10/20Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of Lizz Wright since her first CD and fortunate to have had the experience of hearing her live on several occasions. Her performance is not to be missed. A voice that can sooth your soul, lift your spirit and also bring smile after smile. She's committed to her craft and brings her A game to each performance I've been privileged to experience. Not only five-stars, but five hugs in return for the vocal embrace she gave me.

  • A-MA-ZING!!!!

by LadyJ on 4/15/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was everything I expected and then some, from start to finish. Vocals were top notch, music was on point, the atmosphere was serene. Folks were there just to hear some good good music, and that's what we got. This is my second time seeing her at the Birchmere, and if she comes next year, I'll be there.

  • Superb show!

by Sunshine on 4/15/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Lizz Wright is a singular talent, whose beautiful alto voice is both soothing and soaring; an eclectic blend of jazz, gospel, soul/R&B, and pop. Although I wasn’t familiar with all the songs she sang this evening, they were extremely enjoyable nonetheless. Ms. Wright is truly a vocal virtuoso unsurpassed.

  • Moving Intimate Music

    by K. J. on 4/14/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Lizz has an amazing voice and I always love her concerts. To see her with for outstanding musicians in an intimate setting like the Birchmere was a real treat. The concert was mostly drawn from her most recent CD, Grace. Her live rendition of the title song from that album was amazing. It has such force and emotion in a live setting. I was also very impressed by her encore, Embraceable You with just solo piano. She delivered it with such emotion and meaning. Fantastic.

  • Haunting, Magical and Uplifting...

by Vic on 4/14/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I never want to miss Lizz Wright when she is performing in my vicinity. Her voice is rich and deep, like honeyed molasses. Her shows are always a revelation as her level musicality is rare. More than a performance, listening to Lizz Wright is akin to a spiritual awakening. I am thankful to have been present for several of her live performances at the Birchmere, which is a perfect venue to showcase her unrivaled talent.

  • Beautiful Voice!

    by KitKat54 on 10/30/18Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

I had heard of Lizz before in her Billie Holiday and Standards performances. I was not pleased that the only similar song of the entire evening was Neil Young's Old Man, which was amazing! All the others were originals which were much less appealing. The 2 stars is for the event, the venue should get 5 STARS!

  • Lizz Wright took me to another world!

    by Merripen57 on 10/30/18Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Have been a fan of Lizz after discovering her through an NPR Tiny Desk Concert video eight years ago, but have never heard her in concert until this past weekend when I flew from my home in Montana to attend her performance with a friend. A concert I went to over 30 years ago by the late great Harry Chapin has always been my benchmark for phenomenal concert experiences, and while many have come close over the years, none have been its equal -- until now. It's a rare thing when familiar songs sound brand new, but that's exactly what Lizz and her band pulled off. Their artistry was simply phenomenal, taking me all over the emotional map, from tender tears to raucous cheers. For however many years I have left on this planet, this concert will live with me. Intimate, bold, nuanced, innovative soul-touching magic. Phenomenal woman, phenomenal experience.
