  • Exceeded expectations

by Amazing! on 7/30/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Went to see Jose James on a last minute whim after reading reviews of his shows on line. He and his band were sooo good. He has an amazing voice and stage presence, a seasoned entertainer! His band members are young, energetic and really talented. I don't know their backgrounds, but guessing they are classically trained. His renditions are a combination of styles, and blend together flawlessly. I will be checking these guys out very chance I can!

  • Great performance

The music was great, the performance was great. He’s a very confident musician. He will call you out if you try to leave on him during a good song. Lol .

  • Stage Presence

    by Rox07 on 4/23/17Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

The stage presence was not what I expected at all for such a great artist. The venue was intimate and I really liked that. However, to only see a set of drums, guitar and approximately 2-3 Apple Mac books, was strange for me. I expected a full band, with all the instruments, but I guess this is the “new era.” Artists tend to not use full bands anymore. I don’t know if perhaps there were limitations on how many people would be available or just not enough space on the stage. Other than that, as always Mr. James gave a great performance. I just thought I would see a band and not Mac books.

  • The Incomparable Jose James!!!!

Can't put him in a box! He is all elements of music rolled into one! Very appreciative of those who came out to support him! Will see him again when he returns stateside!

  • Jose James

by MissDot on 11/7/16Valley Performing Arts Center - NorthridgeRating: 5 out of 5

Jose James is one of the most talented artists on the music scene today. He is jazz, soul, r&b and big band all rolled into one. Jose had the audience mesmerized with his unique interpretations of classic songs that we're used to hearing done another way. Music lovers owe it to themselves to see him live...they will be forever changed.

  • by Gio4444 on 4/6/16Disney Concert Hall - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

He blew me away! WOW!! He went from jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, neo-soul to soul and back again THEN throw in some improvisation...my head was freakin' spinning (in a good way)! What Ella Fitzgerald did with improvisation back in the day, Jose is doing now. He has some mad, mad improvisational skills. At the end of his set, I wanted more! I wished he was the main performer that night. I felt bad for the band that came on after him. He is a must see if you want to experience the new generation of jazz singers.

  • Jose James: Jazz Maestro & Beyond!!!

by Jazzienthusiast on 10/4/15Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Top performer. Big voice. Versatile. Can't believe I hadn't heard about him before. He swooned the crowd and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only new fan that walked out of the Birchmere after a tremendous show! One of our best young voices in jazz and beyond!!!

I became a fan upon first hearing his voice; I was mesmerized. He maintained a powerful, yet humble, presence on stage. His program was inclusively multi-generational. He paid homage to past artists and merged that with his contemporary creativity. What a wonderful experience!
