Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • Disappointed

    by Someone23 on 12/13/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 2 out of 5

I was very very excited to see this. My mom paid a lot of money for a gift for me and my husband. But in the middle of the first half the lights turned on suddenly and about 1/2 the people left. Then the announcer said please excuse us for a second or something along the lines. Well half the people that were gone thought it was intermission. Then suddenly the lights turned off and the song started and then it turned on again. Then the lights kept going on and off on stage and then finally off again and the music started and the play continued. But this was one of the most powerful parts of the play and the entire time the audience had their lights on trying to find their seats again… it was so disappointing and distracting. After everyone found the seats the act was over and then the intermission happened. It was just disappointing to lose out on that. I think when they turned on the lights and everyone left they should have just made that the intermission or announced it better. The play however was amazing. Brilliant singers and actors

  • Hard to hear

It was difficult to make out the words. And I was as sitting so far away it was hard to appreciate the acting.

  • Beautiful masterpiece

by MamaHogie on 12/13/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

I absolutely love Les Miserables!! We were seated at the very top of the balcony at ASU Gammage, and yet you would think we were right in the middle of it. Their voices hugged the auditorium and nestled so nicely in your ears. Within the first few minutes I’m already crying - this emotional story of love, loss, determination, and forgiveness, is one you will remember for a lifetime

  • A little disappointed not as good as past plays

by Sundance on 12/13/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 3 out of 5

I have seen this play 4 times, this was not as good as all the others. The staging was not as good, the actors/singers seemed less dramatic and not as well acted as in the past plays, and the sound seemed low and not as well heard. Overall, I was expecting much more, so I was disappointed.

  • Cast is talented, the venue was pretty good

by Zenbastard on 12/13/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 4 out of 5

Great show, mostly. Not fair for me to compare it to Broadway, but that's the only other place I've seen Les Mis, so also unavoidable. The sound was off at the start of the show - a little low - they seemed to fix it by the end of the first number. Lighting was a little dim The sets and design were freaking amazing, and certainly the cast has their numbers down and is very, very skilled at them. Kind of fun to watch with a crowd so obviously into it: the audience was positively raucous applauding the anthem number just before intermission.

  • Excellent!!!

    by Di L. on 12/12/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Les Mis touring companies (and one Broadway production) about 9 times since the early 90s. This production was very good! I particularly liked the casting for Cosette and Marius, played as eager teenagers…the love at first sight made sense played this way!

  • Amazing

    by Avatar 🫶🏻 on 12/12/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

It was amazing! The cast, orchestra, set, costumes all were incredible. The voices were everything! Can’t wait to see it again. Hopefully in the near future.

  • Phenomenal Cast

by Lisa in AZ on 12/12/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing. The cast was as good as any Broadway show, and the leads were wonderful. The only weak spot was our Cosette. She almost looked like a last-minute understudy whose clothes were too big. She is very tiny and the dresses looked too big for her. That said, she did a decent job. But, the entire production was exemplary and made me glad to make the 3-hour drive (each way) for a wonderful afternoon.

  • Goosebumps, tears, and joy!

by Al on 12/12/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

I saw this for the second time at Gammage in Tempe with my son and daughter-in-law, and we all thought it was incredible! The music was outstanding, and the actors were top-notch. I can't recommend this musical enough! It was the one my son most wanted to see, and I'm so glad we saw this phenomenal production together.

  • Wonderful Night Out

by Lara on 12/12/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 4 out of 5

We loved it. It is a classic. Val Jean was stunning!! We didn't really enjoy the ultra BRIGHT sound from the cast as some of it was ear piercing on some notes. While others, were crystal clear and pure magic. Staging was a bit on the dark side and sitting up top it was sometimes difficult to see the actors in the very dim lit stage. I get why the lighting was used.. but could have been a little lighter. Gammage is good but TALL. I will purchase tickets on the floor on the sides next time for around the same price. It is nosebleed on the 1st balcony... can't imagine upper tiers. Overall, good time was had.

  • Wow! 10 out of 10!!

    by Pappa J on 12/12/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

Wow! This was casted perfectly, everyone had a great voice, and was an absolute show stopper. I heard several people say it was the best Les Mis they have ever seen. After seeing this show I cannot wait to see it again. The set was so advanced and quite unbelievable.

  • Les Miserables

by Lexi on 12/11/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 3 out of 5

I love the story and music of Les Miserables. However, the sound quality of this performance at Gammage was poor. It was difficult to hear some of the performers. My husband had not seen this show before and it was difficult for him to follow the storyline due to the poor sound quality. I had a friend go the following night and she said the same thing. We both had seats in the balcony.

  • Disappointing Performance

by AZ Reviewer on 12/11/23Rating: 2 out of 5

I was looking forward to this performance and was so disappointed. It was difficult to understand the actor playing Jean Valjean since he mumbled. Also, some of the actors were trying to have a French accent which made it also difficult to understand. Also, maybe the speakers near the sound booth were not very good. Fortunately, I knew the synopsis of the play; otherwise, I would have had difficulty understanding what was happening. The only highlight was the performance by the Thenardiers.

  • Amazing

I have seen the movie several times and thought how good can the theatre version be? IT WAS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE!!! Phenomenal show!!! Great talent!!

by Shareece on 12/11/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

I had never seen the stage show for Les Misérables, I have only seen the movie. I remember saying "I hope that it's as good as the movie"… Wow!! Was it ever!! The vocals were unmatched, and the music was just so big and Breathtaking! It was absolutely out of this world amazing!

  • Worth Every Penny!

by ARalston on 12/11/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

After waiting 20+ years to see this show again, I was not disappointed! Totally worth the wait. The performance was immaculate, the vocals impecable, the orchestra flawless. It’s a classic for a reason. Go see it!

  • Show was great, but ….

by PS on 12/11/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 4 out of 5

The acting, singing, costumes and set design were great. When it was over, the applause was stopped by the cast (main character) and he proceeded to try to make us buy souvenirs from the show. I don’t know if this is the way shows are going now, but it left a really bad taste after a fun night. Just take your bows and let us remember the show as a great experience!

  • I've seen community productions that were better done.

by Ms Engineer on 12/10/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 2 out of 5

This company seems to have lost the intent of this wonderful musical. The emphasis seemed to be more on their own voices than the emotionally deep message of the story. This wasn't the case across the board, Marius was quite good, but the lack of emotional connection with the story in conjunction with the discontinuity in the characters left this performance lacking. For the price that these tickets were, I expected a phenomenal performance.

  • Amazing!

by Jada on 12/10/23ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

Most touring productions don’t seem to be quite the highest quality, this was absolutely the exception. Amazing vocals, wonderful staging and sets. Performances were so fantastic, we were moved to tears!
