About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • Most Amazing Production ever

by squee on 2/6/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This production of Les Miserables was one of the best musical productions I have ever seen. The acting was amazing and even their singing was able to make you feel everything the characters were feeling. I loved their use of the back screen to help you feel in the moment. There were scenes that were so amazing that my description would not do it justice. I generally only go see a musical one while it is in town, but I am going to make it a point to go see it again.

Les Miserables was very good. The singers did a great job, and we enjoyed it. It is a long show, so be ready to sit for awhile.

  • Some High Points, Some Okay Points

    by JoyMom23 on 2/6/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

This the third time we've seen Les Miserables. We decided to bring our children. High points were Marius, Javert, and the ensemble. We had the u/s for Jean Valljean, he was a solid average. The female leads were also very average. Overall a good experience.

The set design and transition was fantastic. Performers did a great job and there were some tremendous solo performances by multiple actors.

  • Some weak voices

    by SNH4562 on 2/6/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Coasted had a weak voice. The actor who played Javert should of played Jean Valjean. Set was very nice.

  • Got understudied!

    by Lawdawg21 on 2/6/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Understudy on Friday night?! Jean valjean understudy was forgettable. Sound in the loge level left us leaning in to hear. Sit on the floor and hope for the main cast. Too bad for us I guess.

It was sensational! They updated it for the 25th anniversary.

  • Very hard to understand at times.

    by Mandolyn12 on 2/6/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Stage and costumes beautiful! Storyline amazing. I was glad I already knew what it was about or I would have been lost. Took my dad and he didn't know the story and was lost half the time because it was hard to hear and many of the vocals were weak and hard to understand their words. One of my favorite stories and was so excited to go, but couldn't help but feel disappointed during and after. Need stronger voices up there!

  • Les Miserables was somewhat disappointing

by ColCha on 2/6/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

This was the third time I have seen Les Mis and I was very interested in seeing the new staging. Although the staging was creative and inventive the moving in and out of things and the subsequent noise from that backstage was distracting to say the least. The music and lyrics are what tells the story of Les Mis and the original staging was minimal so the story could be told. This staging took something away from the story as you were watching the staging instead of letting the music and lyrics speak to your soul!

Les Miserables is the best musical there is, and this is a very good production of it.

  • Unbelievable!

by Heyillini on 2/5/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

IMy daughter and I have seen Les Mis at least 10 times, both in Chicago, New York and London. I was apprehensive to see it again with some of the changes I had heard about, ie: no turntable, etc. I'm so glad we went, it was just so fabulous and enough changes to make it fresh and new. The cast was wonderful, although seemed young for some of the roles. (The actress playing Cosette was the only one who we didn't like. ) The actors playing Valjean and Javert were truly wonderful, both in voice and acting. Overall the acting was top notch and probably the best we've seen. I think without the turntable there was so much more to watch. The scenery was beautiful. The only downside to not having the turntable was after the barricade fell. We were disappointed not to see the drama of the bodies lying on the baricade.

  • Excellent performance

by mesfan on 2/5/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The play was outstanding! We had the understuday for Jean Val Jean and he was simply amazing. His range was fabulous! The older Cosuet was a little weak. Overall a fantastic performance. The music is so memorable and unforgettable.

  • Les mes

Simply wonderful. Both my son and myself loved it. Great seats from just about everywhere in the auditorium. My seventh time and still get the chills.

  • We left at the intermission

by asjkldfkl on 2/5/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

What a disappointment! Les Mis is my favorite but the performance we saw was second rate. The majority of the performance seemed flat and as if the actors were just going through the motions. I would not recommend this show. It was hard to hear at many points. My wife and I left at the intermission because the show just wasn't enjoyable. We weren't the only ones either. I wish I could get my money back.

  • Best production of Les Miserables we've seen!

    by 06cardswsc on 2/5/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

New tour, new staging, new cast. All are fabulous. The Cadillac Palace in Chicago is an intimate theater with great acoustics. The new set and staging makes this Les Miserables feel more personal and intimate. The cast is spectacular, with clear strong voices for all but Marius. Javert may be the best we've seen (in at least 6 times we've seen this musical). In several performances the voices were beautiful enough to move you to tears, even if the music and lyrics wouldn't have anyway. We would have stayed and watched the next performance if we could have. Don't miss this one!!!

  • This "Les Mis" is a whiz!!!

by Zimzim on 2/5/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen Les Mis quite a few times, in different cities, and this one compared well. The one thing I'd never witnessed before was the lack of the famous turn-table that is used extensively in all the other productions I've seen. So I was very tuned in to how the sets were used and how the cast compensated for this difference. They did a fantastic job! The sets were wonderful, even more inventive and of a higher quaiity than sets I've seen when there was a turn-table, and the movements of the cast more than made up for this "lack" - which was not really a loss at all in this case. The mics were something new to me, attached as they were to the middle of the forehead. So I'm not sure if this was for the better or for the worse, as from my seat very close to the pit orchestra, it was sometimes hard to hear the singing over the instruments. If i hadn't been so very familiar with all the songs, I guess this might have disturbed me a bit more, but since I know the score by heart, I knew the lyrics even when they were too soft to be heard very well. Overall.....the voices and acting were tops!! Highly recommended! And not to forget to mention how wonderful the pit orchestra was - just amazing!!

  • Great Show

by Servando on 2/5/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The story was powerful and the acting superb. There were times when the sound was very poor and our group could not understand the words the actors were saying/singing. There was also a very loud banging sound coming from the wall vents on the left side of the theatre (as you face the front) toward the end of the show. Very distracting to all of us sitting on that side of the orchestra section.
