About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • Les Miserables was awesome

by RobStan on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The story and voices were terrific. In the show I saw, the females were slightly weaker than their male counterparts, but, this powerful story and powerful music carried the day.

This is my 4th time seeing Les Mis. The stage set-up has changed since I last saw the show. The characters use "balconies" on both sides of the stage which is ok except if you're sitting on the far right/left side then you can't see them at all at times. Also, the female lead singers didn't have as strong voices as before. They were good but I've heard better. The special effects improved which was nice. I would still recommend to friends who have not seen Les Mis...but I would warn them to go to the bathroom ahead of time as the line during intermission was too long ( there was only one main bathroom in the basement).

We were at the matinee on Saturday 2/12. It was a wonderful production. The sets were well done and helped move the story along with smooth transitions. Orchestra sounded good. Most actors were fine in their performance, except the woman who played grown-up Cosette. From the moment she began to sing, I was not wholly impressed, and then later on the performance she did not hit a note as she was attempting to harmonize with the person playing Marius. Jean Val Jean and grown-up Eponine get my best vote.

  • Wow. We loved it.

When my wife and I go to Chicago for theater, we expect to be blown away, and Les Mis did not disappoint. The singing was beyond superb, the acting was first rate, the casting was on the money, the Cadillac Palace is great for a big show, and the experience brought out more than one wow during the show. The special effects were excellent, and the blocking made them totally believable. See it. We loved it.

  • Amazing show

This was a wonderful show with a great performance. It was a shame that our seats had limited view, something we just realized after booking them.

  • Now I see why this is my girlfriend's favorite.

    by el1inas on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Coming from a background of musical theater including Wicked, Spamalot, and Chicago, I wasn't sure what to expect from this more serious seeming show. I knew it was supposed to be good, but didn't understand how it could possibly trump the excitement and jazz of Chicago. By the time the intermission came, however, my mind was made up. This show was on a whole new level. The intensity of the music, it's power, and its stunning delivery, combined with a very effective and interesting set, enthralled me. I left the show with a new sense of musical theater, and will see Les Miz again.

  • Wonderful venue, effects, and show!

    by theluckiest018 on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Everything in this musical was wonderful. The music was amazing and I loved the effects (Victor Hugo painting as backdrops, really neat movement effects, etc). The male leads were absolutely amazing! "Master of the House" was HILARIOUS!

  • Phenomenal show

by Daddykins on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les Mis was even better than I remember after seeing the show many years ago. The new touches (the moving background in the sewers, Javert's suicide jump) were great but not over the top. The men had beautiful voices. I still get a lump in my throat during thia show -- over and over again.

  • Les Mis

I thought that the voices were weak. I love this show, and was extremely disappointed in this production. Would not recommend this production at all. The people behind us left after the first act.

Thought play was fast paced compared to the last 4 times I saw Les Miserable. Ebony could have been better.

  • Les Miserables

This production was a full 20 minutes shorter than my Broadway recording. Although the performers made a valiant attempt to keep up with the tempo, most of the words were unintelligible. Moreover, the part of Cosette was played by a young woman who clearly could not reach the high notes demanded in that role. The biggest disappointment, was the balance, or rather, lack of it. I sat in the balcony, and most of the singing was overshadowed by a pit that needed to be racheted down a couple of notches. Singers should not be overpowered by the instruments. This was not the full staging that we have come to expect, so don't look for the revolving stage, or the magnificent barricade. Not there. On a more positive note, the leads of Valjean and Javert were strong and nicely done. Eponine was sung beautifully as well. Overall, though, it was a disappointment.

  • Les Miz - One more time in Chicago

by zebragirl on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

What a great show. The characters playing Jean Valjean, Javert, Fontine - all amazing. Eponine, not so much. BUT these are my personal opinions. This is still, to me, one of the greatest musicals of all time. The story alone is beautiful. I flew in from Texas just for the show and flew back the next day - did I mention I love it? Young Cossette and Gavroche get high marks as well. Highly recommend!

  • Les Miserables

We very much enjoyed watching this production. At times, it seemed a bit long, but overall, it was incredible. We especially enjoyed the lead role.

Great performance! Extremely talented cast! Wonderful!

  • Les Miserables is an unforgetable spiritual event

by anefisoj on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The music was great. Watching the orchestra conductor mouth every word of every song was an added bonus. A few of the voices were a little weak, but the overall message of grace, forgiveness and love for our fellow man always wins out in this incredible story. Most of the voices were excellent, and Chasten Harmon as Eponine deserves special recognition of her acting and singing. The staging was well done, and the music was powerful.

AMAZING. A greater story has yet to be written. Even the gigantic bald man sitting in front of me was crying his eyes out at the end.

  • Disappointed Music Lover

    by singr71887 on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Les Mis is one of my favorite shows, and I've seen it performed in a variety of venues. I was disappointed by the cast and staging. The stage seemed too small, and was made even smaller by set pieces. The adult cosette had some off notes, and I didn't think she fit the part. Young cosette was a brunette, and old cosette was a "cinderella" blonde. Also, eponine, daughter of whites, was african american -- that didn't make sense. The show just did not blow me away.

  • Les Miserables was excellent!

by tcmz on 2/14/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first Les Miserables experience. I thought it was excellent. My partner had seen Les Mis on four other occasions (all over the world). She ranked this as her second favorite performance.

Excellent update of a classic broadway show. Cast was true to original quality, newer special effects added to the experience.
