Disappointing sound mixing. Left at intermission.
by VPinTN on 8/1/25Rating: 2 out of 5My husband and I are "Friends of the Tennessee Theater"in Knoxville and have been to many touring Broadway shows at this venue (as well as many original performances on Broadway in NYC). I was very much looking forward to Les Miserables, knowing it's decorated history. I knew only the basics about the plot. For this performance, we got last minute resale tickets in row U, which are normally great seats. Unfortunately, the sound mixing for this performance (night #2) was dreadful. We could only make out about every 3rd word for almost all of the characters, which made the story impossible to follow. We weren't the only ones, as lady in front of us was napping on her husband's shoulder. It was so disappointing that we left at intermission. Because I've been to the TN Theater many times, I have to conclude that it was the show's production team, not the theater itself, that had the sound problem. After watching shorts of the original Broadway version, I also did not like the change to the opening scene, felt it made the story hard to follow from the get go. The acting and set seemed fine, which saves this performance from one star.
