We took our two girls to see Laurie Berkner and band and it was a great family outing and the music was wonderful
My 3.5 year old has watched Laurie's DVD about 1 zillion times and it enabled me to cook dinner when he was under 2. We listen to the cd's in the car all the time.So seeing her live was just a dream come true for all of us. The band is so amazing and cohesive and Laurie's voice, I can't say enough. I would have gone to see her by myself (43 years old here) She writes many of her own songs along with her bandmates and also sings old classics ("There's a Little Wheel a Turnin' in my Heart" is one of my faves) I heard new songs I loved and her classics were a joy. She is so in tune with her audience and the fact that they are kids (about 1-6 is her target) but also makes it fun for parents. I got a cd and "Shaky Egg" for my son but got ME a t-shirt, which BTW, was made of organic fair trade cotton, which I thought was pretty dang cool. A word about the venue, too. The Paramount Theater is beautiful, luxurious and reminded me of what old movie theaters looked like when I was a kid, before they chopped them into multiplexes. We all had a great time, my son and many other kids, were allowed to roam around, since sitting still is not too likely with this age group. It was a blast!
It's too bad Laurie never made it big before she started singing children's songs. She has a great talent that is unfortunately somewhat wasted.
The theater was stunningly beautiful. The place was teeming with little dude and dudettes in their jammies. I was there with my two granddaughters aged 4 and 18 months. They had never seen the Laurie Berkner Band before (their cousins had, and LOVE Laurie, but they got sick!). The little one was standing up shaking her bum almost like Shakira! The older one was dancing and dancing around. Both had a very, very good time. We had no complaints at all. I only hope that the band comes back before my 2 year old grandson who can't start his day without seeing Laurie outgrows her! Thanks for asking! Thanks for coming, Laurie Berkner Band!!
The Laurie Berkner Band is a great venue for kids and parents. Her high energy and enthusiasm is perfect for everyone. Our son was completely smitten with Laurie and her band. I highly recommend this concert for any parent who wants to get their child into music without the nonsense of stupid antics.
We have been listening to and watching Laurie and the band for years and were thrilled to see that they'd be making a rare West Coast appearance. Come more often, Laurie - we would come!
My 4 year old and I had a great time at her show. It was fun and energetic! Great venue.
i must admit we all love Laurie Berkner- me, my husband, and two girls age 6 and 3. Ww couldn't wait to see her and the band in concert, hoping she'd sing all our favorites- and she DID! Wow what a show ! And the new addition to their band- Bob was fantastic with his funky chimes and drums.. My daughters danced, jumped and clapped til they were tired, and we sang along with ALL the songs! What a treat- hope she comes to California again!
Great music, great venue, great fun! Kids loved dancing in the aisles. LBB played all the kids' favorite songs and even I had a blast singing along. We have been waiting a long time for the band to come out west. We hope they come again soon.
This adventure was a total surprise for my kids. Upon realization there was delight, excitement, and anticipation! Once the concert started it was full participation, energy and memories from beginning to end! The only hiccup was at the end, my child wanted to talk to Laurie and tell her how much he enjoyed the new band members and ask her a couple questions. Perhaps a fan meet & greet would be an idea which could be incorporated next time. So, we're gonna write a letter to her instead. The pajama party was such a great idea...my kids loved wearing their pajamas & I have to admit I was quite comfortable in mine too! We brought new pajamas to share with other kids too, which made it a great beginning to a giving season! We'd also brought animals for our heads & my kids shared their extras with other kids in the audience which completed their experience of sharing! WHAT FUN! I came home and notified my friends that if they could fit it in their plans to attend 1 of her remaining 2 California shows they should definitely do it!!!
My daughters absolutely adore Laurie Berkner, and were not disappointed at all with this concert. They danced, sang, and jumped the entire time :) My husband and I loved the fact that she sounded just like she does on her cds, and overall, the entire event was wonderful!
The show was great. Very energetic and just long enough to stay enjoyable. The band has a new drummer, Bobby, and he was really good. All the performers seemed personable and they looked like they really enjoyed performing for the children. Laurie encouraged the children to dance, and it was so fun to see all the kids dancing in the aisles. They played many favorites for the crowd, and it was so cute to see the kids singing along. If your children like Laurie Berkner, I encourage you to take them to see this show. It was well worth the money. I hope she comes to Northern California more often. I would love to take my daughter again.
We had a great time! The band was wonderful, the theater is amazing and parking was easy.
This was a great show. My 2 year old had a blast watching them on stage. It would have been great to have had the band available to take pictures after the show.
I am 6 and this was my first Laurie Berkner concert. I got to go up front which was super cool. I have her CDs and videos that I like to watch. The best parts of the show included the songs and the audience participation. I'm only giving it four stars because I really wanted an autograph. Regardless, I still love you.
It was great fun from the very beginning when all of the little ones cried after the theatre turned the lights off for the concert to begin (they had to turn them back on). And it was great watching all of the little ones dance and follow along with Laurie's singing and dancing.
Children get too cranky late at night, so a loud concert with dancing right before bedtime doesn't work. There were many crying children. The concert was stressful for parents and kids alike. Stroller check was very inconveniently located, and was not well staffed considering the size of the audience and the mandatory check - this was not a good venue for a children's concert.
Took 3 1/2 yr old twins to show. Lullabye songs mid-show made them sleepy but other than that it was really great to see my little ones at a concert. Song selection could have been better. Didn't do a lot of the favorites that Noggin plays.
I took my two daughters ages 2 and 4 to this concert. They enjoyed every minute of it! They didn't stop dancing until the concert was over. It was my first time at the Tilles center and I would like to go to another event there. The seating is roomy and it is easy to move around.
Wow! The children loved the concert, and I think the parents had even more fun! We love singing her songs and the fact that they are almost all original makes it so much better. Her tunes are very catchy and we find ourselves singing them even when there is no music playing. The cast had so much energy and such character, they worked great together. I cannot remember a concert that I have enjoyed so much, and my children will not soon forget it!! Thanks, Laurie!
