My husband and I took our 3 year old daughter to the Laurie Berkner concert at Cain Park, her first concert. Everything was nice. We arrived early and scoped out where everything was located. The Cain Park staff were so helpful, from directing us to the concessions stand for water (as well as the water fountain!), to the usher who got down to my daughter's level to show her the shirt the ushers were wearing so she knew what to look for if we got separated. The seats we had were amazing - 2nd row in the pavillion, right in the center! We bought a "My First Concert" t-shirt and a 'shakey egg' for our daughter. I was pleased to see the shirt was a good, sturdy quality. It made paying $20 a smidgen easier. But even the $20 is not unreasonable for concert swag. The $5 for the shakey egg was definitely worth it.
The concert itself was great! My husband & I chuckled at the 'toddler mosh pit' in front of the stage. The kids all seemed to work together as well as kids in this age group can. We had fun trying to guess all the songs represented in the backdrop picture. Laurie and Susie were a great team, and it was fun to see them genuinely have fun performing & interacting with the kids. It was great to see the adults singing along & having fun right along with the kids. Laurie & Susie kept the kids involved, taught them hand motions to some songs, and even had a little something in there for the adults. It was wonderful to see how they really kept the age demographic in mind as they talked through different parts of what they were doing, and went a little deeper into the songs. The set list was great. A nice variety of newer & older songs. I couldn't believe Laurie actually named each animal the kids brought to 'put on their heads!' For the curtain call, Laurie explained how they have asked, and asked, and asked their fans what their favorite songs are, and that there are so many favorites, they just don't have enough time to sing all of them, but here was a medley of many songs & she hoped she was able to get at least a little of our favorites in there. It was so nice that she explained that on stage, as with this age group, meltdowns because their favorite song wasn't sung is quite an ordeal for parents.
All in all, it was a fabulous afternoon for all three of us. We all enjoyed the concert & had lots of fun. I would definitely take my daughter to another Laurie Berkner concert.
