Late Night Catechism Tour Dates
It isn't often that an off-broadway theatre production makes it big, but that's exactly what happened with Late Night Catechism. This one-nun show is a combination stand-up comedy act and play, with the audience willing members of the cast. The show started with regular appearances at the Live Bait Theater in Chicago in 1993, where captivated audiences filled the seats every Friday and Saturday night. A move to the Royal George Theater didn't slow down the popularity of the show. Since its modest opening at a storefront theater, it has gone on to tour through virtually every major U.S. city and made successful appearances in countries such as Australia, England, Ireland and Canada. Late Night Catechism is the longest continuously running show in Chicago. Maripat Donovan, the star, earned an Outer Critics Award Nomination for outstanding solo performance. Both Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan have been nominated by the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle for their outstanding work on this production at different times. About the Show A truly one-woman show, Late Night Catechism addresses Catholic education with a wink, a nod, and a deep sensitivity. Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan both have a long history of Catholic education and a deep humor about the subject that never crosses into mockery. Sister, the teacher of this late night catechism class stands on the stage as the person replacing the regular Father Murphy who teaches the class but doesn't want to miss his poker night. During this combination improve theater production and stand-up comedy routine, audiences enjoy classic jokes about Saintly layoffs and other facets of the Church that those in the know can get behind. Audience members are the class, and shouldn't be surprised to find themselves relegated to the corner on stage for bad behavior. Questions and answers are part of the show, along with a simple set. Late Night Catechism became more than just a night of light entertainment. As part of the show, Quade and Donovan took the opportunity to shed light on the plight of retired nuns, and audiences have donated more than $3 million in support.

Sister was so much fun. Went with a friend who had seen other topics of Late Nite Catechism before. This was my first time and would definitely go again and take some other friends to enjoy.
Her voice was so shrill that we left at intermission, could not understand her.
LNC didn’t disappoint. Sister was amazing. She includes a lot of the audience in the show and how she could remember everyone’s name later in the show was impressive! Worth the money.
I loved it! Would love to see more of her shows. She was fantastic!!
This play was great. The Nun interacting with the audience was so good. I would not mind seeing this again. If you missed it try to find where it’s currently playing.
The show was great! I don’t much of anything about Catholicism, but I didn’t need too. The way she interacted with the audience was awesome. Definitely on top of her game.
I have been to several of the series and this is my third time for the original. I think they get better each time. I wish there were more performances in the valley. Every show is different and interactive with the audience. Very funny.
I have never laughed so much at anything as this show. Great performance!
GREAT time. I was amazed at the tremendous attention to detail... the “costume” (habit), the set decoration, the music, the audience participation prizes (yes, you actually have an opportunity to compete for kitschy religious paraphernalia, just like back in school!). Loved the “fines” for students’ “sinful” behavior and post-show collection, to support the care of real retired sisters in the archdiocese. ❤️❤️
There are four different Sisters shows. I think that only two of them have been to San Antonio. Bring on the other shows.
Wasn’t sure what to expect, and was not disappointed at all! I laughed so much and learned things I did not know before. Looking forward to seeing the other installations!
Within the first 15 minutes of the show we were laughing so hard that we had a hard time catching our breath. We can’t wait to see it again.
This show was so funny and light-hearted, and even, educational. The theater is so nice and my friends and I had a blast.
Late Nite Catechism was the most entertaining show I've seen in a long time. No matter what religion you practice you will be laughing for hours. I will certainly attend other shows in this series.
She was very engaging with the audience from the moment she on the stage. The show was hilarious, highly recommend it to everyone.
One of the best shows I have seen in a while, our sister for the 7/30 performance was great. She kept the whole "Class" of Heathens in line at all times, and my girlfriend spending a lot of time in trouble with sister for misbehavior. Again go to this show I have not laughed that hard for a long time, my ears were hurting from smiling so much. A++++++++++
This show is well worth seeing, especially if you ever went to catholic school or dealt with nuns. But i would recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh. Don't pass up the chance to see Late Night Catechism.
A friend and I received tickets for Christmas. What a joy, we laughed from beginning to end. Learned a few things too! The audience participation was an unexpected treat.
The show did star off a little bit slowly. I did not realize there was more than one 'sister' teaching the class throughout the country. I was expecting the male 'sister' I saw on the internet. The second half was much better with a Q&A session and the compatibility contest. I was hoping for a more irreverent nun with some swear words thrown in for the shock value. But she managed to pull it off with no cursing. The audience asked 'actual' religious questions, but the 'nun' was up to the task explaining Limbo, it's removal and later reinstatement, and Purgatory and how they play important roles in our faith.
