LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

The MLS Cup game was amazing! The atmosphere was electric, parking was well-managed, and the price was definitely reasonable. We will definitely go next year if we get the chance.

  • Galaxy Blast!

by FCRASTA on 11/24/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the final. I got their 1.5 hrs before kickoff so parking was a breeze. Exiting the stadium was easier because LASD was actually controlling the traffic as opposed to sitting in their cars. Once inside, it was very festive, and Galaxy fans were excited. The Dynamo fans added some flavor to the game, but the Depot should not tolerate anyone throwing objects onto the field especially from away fans. Overall, it was a very exciting game and great to see our home team win the cup at home!

  • MLS Cup

by superchewnt on 11/23/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

The game was entertaining and really fun to watch. The crowd was really into it and made the game more enjoyable. I did not give it a five star rating because I had to miss the first fifteen minutes of the game because of the terrible traffic control at the Home Depot Center. I ended up having to park far away from the venue in a parking lot located near the math department at the university. I ended up having to still pay full price for parking which was ridiculous. The venue did sell over 30,000 tickets which is well over the capacity for a soccer game I believe, but the venue still should have been better prepared for this issue. With that aside everything was perfect and the ticket was still worth its price.

  • The Best Place to Watch Live Soccer

by Frenchamerican on 11/23/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

This stadium was made for soccer, there are no bad seats everyone is close to the action. Parking could be better organized and I am sure they will get to it.

  • Game better than fans

by RrredBullRetoDelSol on 11/23/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first MLS Cup, but not my first game at Home Depot Center. Maybe I shouldn't have sat right next to the LA Riot Squad, but it was really the 'family' in front of me with the drunk (before the game kicked off) father, daughters(2) and wife (all intoxicated) who flipped off and booed everybody but the Galaxy. Made me embarrassed to be a soccer lover. The game was much more exciting and I enjoyed it very much. I couldn't stand for the the whole thing, so the family in front of me had to be looked around all the time. Other than that and the atrocious parking situation, it was great! I'd go back in a minute and bring my poncho!

So excited for Galaxy to win the MLS this season. It rained but that's ok...just wanted to be there to support.

The game was amazing! First half was a bit frustrating but Galaxy came through!!! Such a beautiful goal!!!

  • GO GALAXY AMAZING

by Michiiee on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

The event was unforgettable it was really fun. The only thing i will say that i was very disappointed and angry about was the whole umbrella situation. If your going to take away hundreds of umbrellas you need to let us know beforehand that theyre not allowed like "if its going to rain no umbrellas etc. But nowhere on the list of what is not allowed in does it say umbrella. And then to throw them away??? That was stupid so game GREAT but that was really unnecessary.

  • Go see MLS!

by Rivaldo on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

OK, I can't give too many MLS games 5 star reviews-I watch too much European football. Still, I try to support MLS when I can. The most impressive aspect of the evening was the warm feeling of joy when the Galaxy clinched the win. Nice, friendly atmosphere that made us forget about the semi-unpleasant weather. The Houston fans bXXXXXX out at the end, but it was about as mild of a protest that one can expect at a football match. Glad Donovan, Beckham, and Keene linked up for the final goal. The defense played really well all night, especially De la Garza. Bruce Arena is a legendary American coach!

Fantastic win. Great way to see Beckham end his season with LA. Venue was perfect. LA is a great city to host championship games.

  • DESPITE RAIN... HAD A BLAST!

by uscdork on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

Was so excited the MLS cup was in LA this year, but even better that The LA Galaxy were in the finals! The seating was perfect. Next time it would be nice to know ahead of time that no umbrellas were allowed inside and many people, including myself, had to throw them away. Besides that and the parking (which was inevitable in a sold out game) had a great time.

  • MLS Cup was amazing!

by PamiJ on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

Our seats, the environment, teams and help was all amazing. We had a great time and getting the tickets was very easy.

  • Game was good but not the stadium accomodations.

by MERA on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 2 out of 5

The stadium was ill equiped to handle the rain. No umbrellas were allowed inside the stadium and there were no areas set up for people to eat comfortably under the rain. My friends and I ate pollo campero standing up under a tiny roof getting wet and juggling our food in our hands. Very uncomfortable. The forecasts had been announcing the rain all week long and still the stadium was no prepared and did not provide the fans appropriate accomodations for the weather conditions

  • Galaxy! ! !

by ScottySkim on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a near-perfect event. As I entered the stadium, there was Alexi Lalas and the ESPN crew doing their thing, so it was really fun to watch (NOW WHY IS THERE NO WAY TO HEAR THE AUDIO? NO APP? NO SPEAKERS?). I digress. Seat was amazing... the rain tapered off just as the game started... I had a small boy in front of me so my forward view was perfect . No show to the right of me and some people left in the 70th minute (why did they come? Are you kidding me?).... so I had tons of room to move around some. And of course The Galaxy won so the energy in the stadium was amazing. The only problem with the seat was that it was in 'the drip zone'. The roof literally stopped right above Row M, so big drops would come down only on that row, even after the rain stopped.

had a great view of the pitch!!! and they also provided complimentary ponchos!!!

  • Win!

by thiemad on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

Good seats - out of the rain and a win for LA - what more could you ask?!

  • Great finish to a great season

by Anonymous on 11/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

The MLS playoff was a great event. Even with the rain, the event was well run and organized. The event was well staffed so that the entrance and concession lines were reasonable and there was plenty of security to keep the opposing fans in line.
