LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

It was a good evening. A little too far away from the field.

  • Wonderful night for all Manchester United Fans!

by UtdSF on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

Wife and I flew down from the SF bay area just for this game. Traffic was ridiculous on 110. We had to take surface streets to get to the arena (still took us 2hrs). Once we arrived, we really enjoyed all the festivities on the arena grounds. It was amazing to see a sea of red all around the stadium. The energy of the crowd and players were awesome. I would definitely travel to see our beloved United on the west coast. GGMU!

Great game, although it was a blowout was very Happy to have gone to the game. Amazing fan response and Turnout (Manchester United). Every thing as great, Only suggestion was better organization of shuttle back To parson parking lot.

  • Glory glory man united!

by Bodadgums on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

Awesome seats to watch the perfect game. Only two downsides were they only did cash for parking and only cash for merchandise. Neither of those were listed anywhere on websites I checked before going. Saved me a lot of money...but still would have been great to know!

  • Manchester United US Tour amazing!

    by YesiVasquez10 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

This event was worth going to again. For just adults or even families. Lots to do at Chevrolet event before game. Was surprised we had so much fun even before game started. Watching the game was the icing on cake!

  • Man vs Galaxy

by AcuMatt on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

It was an absolute disaster trying to get to, and get in, the game. The Rose Bowl parking was awful! Other than that, the event was awesome! What an opportunity to see one of the world's great football clubs. They did not disappoint either....crushing the Galaxy 7-0.

It was fun but Manchester unites should have let galaxy score one goal.

  • Rose Bowl was forgettable

    by Manufan1971 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

The game was amazing, if I had been able to see it. I left with plenty of time to get to the game but ended up spending 1.5 hours within site of the stadium. The parking and traffic around the stadium was unreal. It was as if they didn't know the game was happening. Two lanes into the stadium was a disaster. I only saw 45 min of play. I will NEVER attend another event at the Rose Bowl!!! (I flew fr Dallas for that!)

  • Inexcusable

    by Rippedoff88 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

We arrived within 2 miles of the stadium 2 hours prior to game time. The rose bowl staff all 2 of them in charge of parking at each gate were moving as slow as possible and totally dis organized. We were actually turned away at the first gate because of the line and that cost us an extra hour of waiting in our car. Will not be attending this event again.

  • Galaxy v Man U

by Papermonster on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

We were very excited to see the match BUT Landon played maybe 15 minutes, Gonzalez didn't play at all than on the other side Rooney only played one half. I want a refund! I would pay to see Messi play one half.

  • Not competitive and over priced.

by SouthBayShark on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 2 out of 5

This was the first and last time I go see a great euro team play against MLS team. Boring, overpriced, parking a nightmare, lots of drunks, several fights, people telling profanity amongst young children. Ridiculous. I'll stick to regular MLS games at stub hub center.

  • by Mozica on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

Seats turned out to be better than expected! Of course, being GA, it was a first come, first serve type of thing so we did get there early but had a perfect view.

  • Could have been so much better

by Reallyneedanickname on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 2 out of 5

I was disappointed on how everything was setup and. The fact that it seemed more like the stadium was setup for Manchester United and not for LA Galaxy at all. They did not have the large mega screens going during the game to see the close plays. Overall the experience could have been a lot better.

  • Manchester United Vs Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup

by NvBrit on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

The game was amazing, the atmosphere astounding. Very friendly staff. My daughter was in a wheelchair, so we managed to get in through a special gate that saved her from lining up with the 90,000 other guests! Unfortunately, the lack of room in the seats and my daughters disability (military disabled veteran) required that we could not use our paid seats for the entire game and had to move away from the field to the disabled location, which made the purchase of the $130. (each) seats a waste of money.

  • Rose bowl is just terrible for parking

by Anonymous on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 2 out of 5

The game was good, but it took nearly 2 hours to actually park at the stadium
