LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

It was the best sporting event I've witnessed. More than 86,000 strong watching Man United, the best Team in the world. Hopefully, they will return next year!

It was a wonderful experience for my 91 year old father. Parking fee too expensive! Great to see an international team play and WOW us with their talents.

  • Expected better

    by ManUFan56 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 2 out of 5

We all know traffic is really bad for an event at the Rose Bowl, but this time it was horrible. There is not enough police officers controlling traffic. There should be better organization when 80,000 people are expected to attend. Many people , like ourselves arrived at half time because of the poorly controlled traffic. As for the game itself, it was disapointing to not see several big stars like Chicharito and Van Persie. The second half comprised of mostly young not well known players. Worth the money, time, and traffic? No.

  • The Game was great, parking was a big NIGHTMARE

by Mariogalaxy on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

The Rose Bowl should have a better parking system. Many fans (including myself) had very hard time trying to find our cars. there were no parking signal (on the golf course). there were no parking attendance, no help at all. very poor parking assistance.

  • Man Utd took over LA

by cooxi on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

Soccer is always fun, especially live. But Man Utd is in a different class all together. So exciting to see my favorite team for the second time. The fanfest before the game was also fun, but very limited seating and shade spots. Next time at the Rose Bowl, I will be tailgating with the others.

  • MANUTD VS LA GALAXY was cool

by LilCarl on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

I loved the event. I loved seeing my favorite team play, and watching it live was the best. But, it was tiring walking to the parking lot in the southside of the stadium just to enter a gate to go to the buses that would return us to the bus drop off. But other than that i had a great time.

Horrible experience. Very poor choice of venue. After 3 hours in a traffic queue in Pasadena we left without bothering to go to the game.

The game itself and the rose bowl was great, but parking was horrendous. There were markers as balloons but no real method to help us find our cars after and no workers after the event to assist us. We ended up parking on the golf course and so it felt like a maze to begin with. After 45 minutes, finally found our car. After another hour after that, finally made it out of the venue to the freeway. They should allow several exit routes so as not to jam pack one street.

  • Good game, disappointing seating arrangements

by TheLads on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 3 out of 5

When we arrived we were told if was open seating in the General admission area, even though we had row and seat assignments. This was not apparent when buying the tickets and we would have arrived earlier if we had known.

  • Never again

by BeauNono on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

Terrible access to the stadium, even worst access to the parking lot, clueless parking staff that didn't even know the start time of the game etc... It took 3 hours to drive the last 10 miles to the stadium. After paying $150 for the ticket and $30 for parking on site, I didn't even make it to the game and decided to turn around and match the game in a restaurant in Pasadena. At least the food and wine were good! Why schedule a weekday game like this at a facility that obviously cannot handle the traffic?!

  • parking

by Nopack on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

horrible parking it was retard how bad the whole situation was, the people you guys have working there are so rude and actually scream at everyone and tell them bad words.. really shouldn't sell that many tickets if you guys don't even have the capacity to hold so many people in a proper way.

  • Great game! And crazy traffic

    by Daniboy696 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 3 out of 5

The fan fest was ok besides waiting too long in line due to a lot of crowd, the game was fantastic but LA Galaxy made too many crucial mistakes. What bothered me the most was waiting over an hour to exit the parking lot. They need to be more organize on that. Everything else was great. Another thing that i hated was that a third of the stadium wanted Chicharito to play and didnt get that pleasure.

Such a great experience. I will come again! Everything about it was great. Only bad thing was actually getting to the Rose Bowl.

  • Manchester United Played Billiantly !!!!!

    by TeeGar1 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great game for Man U. This was my very first pro game to watch live and it was fantastic. There was as much going on in the stands as there was on the field. The Rose Bowl was not as big as I expected so I think that makes it better to see the events from wherever you sit.

  • by Anonymous on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

ROSE BOWL PARKING IS $30, minimum . . . CASH! Bad news if you've waited 90 minutes before being turned around if you can't come up with the cash. THE WORST, GOUGING PARKING LOT OF ANY EVENT I'VE GONE TO IN OVER 50 YEARS. MINIMUM WAGE PARKING LOT "DIRECTORS" TOTALLY DISORGANIZED . . . CHAOS. REGARDLESS OF HOW GOOD THE EVENT IS . . . THE PARKING NEGATED THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE.

  • MU VS GALAXY

Its was Awesome!! seeing Manchester United playing for the first time

  • Loved seeing two of my favorite teams

    by gordok303 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

I love international games! Huge supporter of MLS soccer and English Premier League soccer. The crowd was a lot of fun and the game was exciting! I wish the game wasn't so close to the end of the world cup though so that national team players would play in this kind of game and not be "recovering" from world cup responsibilities.

  • no control over seating

by tdmroz on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 2 out of 5

The Rose Bowl was a nice venue but they do not have personnel checking tickets. People pretty much walk and sit anywhere. We had decent seats and our view of the game was constantly blocked by people walking up and down aisle looking for better seats. It was obvious that people were not sitting where they were supposed to. It continued throughout the whole game and become very annoying.
