LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

  • Never attend events at Rose Bowl!!

    by Crofty7 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 2 out of 5

I would never recommend an event at the Rose Bowl for anyone! It was cool to see the place with all it's history, but it's a terribly run venue. We got there a little after the Match was set to begin and there was a huge line of traffic waiting to park. They charge $30 (cash only) to park (which is totally outrageous) and our parking spot was literally a mile or more from the stadium. The game itself was fun since we got to see Man U play, but they crushed the galaxy 7-0 which made the game less fun to watch. The people working at the venue were rude and unpleasant. Leaving the stadium was a total mess. Traffic was literally grid lock for hours after the game. Once we got off the grounds, they forced all cars to leave the same direction on the 210 which made for a huge backup of cars 1 exit down. So logistics at the Rose Bowl are terrible!

  • Man U Outclassed Galaxy!

Exciting game. Great soccer technique. Great to see Rooney.

  • by Blec on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

You might not want to post this review because I have nothing but bad things to say about tho parking at the Rose Bowl. What I thought started out as a well organized event turned into utter chaos after an enjoyable game. It took 20 min to find the car and then another hour to get out the gate because NO one was directing traffic. It basically was a free for all of cars trying to get out. We saw 3 workers driving around on a golf cart going no where. We had a great time at the game but we will never go back to the Rose Bowl again.

Started off terrible especially due to extremely heavy traffic, didnt get to the game at halftime.I thought that leaving at 5 pm for a 7:30 game would be early enough, but as it turned out, it wasn't, as it took me 3 hours and 3 minutes. i know this isn't ticketmaster's fault ,but however the game i went to was pretty good and entertaining, as we rarely see English team here in the US except for this summer season.

  • Terrible experience

by Anonymous on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 2 out of 5

The game itself was great! No doubt. It was the little things that made a huge difference. - Not letting us know in advance that parking was cash only! - Employees who were working had no idea where the seats were. I asked 3 different people and they all directed me in three different directions - No screens to watch the game on so if you turned your head to chat to the person next to you, you could end up missing the moment. - Few instant replays

  • Man U vs Galaxy

    by Cantona7 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 3 out of 5

The match itself was great with a full stadium. Purchasing and receiving the tickets done by Ticket Master was good. The parking situation at the Rose Bowl was a disaster !!! They charged $30 and all the employees just disappeared when the game was over and time to leave the parking. There was a mess created by people since there wasn't even a person to guide and direct people out of parking lot, that's besides the fact that we parked on the grass and no signs to find the vehicle after the game. We left 15 minutes before the game ends (9:45pm) and left the parking lot at 11:36pm!!!

  • Rosebowl LA Galaxy v Manchester United

by Anonymous on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 3 out of 5

It was our first time at the Rose Bowl and although the setting is nice the seats were very tight with very little leg room for tall people or oversized people. The seats are too jam-packed to be comfortable and there is absolutely no where to put the expensive food or drinks you buy at the consessionaires. Galaxies played horribly and at this point I might have to turn my allegiances to the better team.

  • Excellent atmosphere and an exciting match

by RyanLobo on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

I didn't expect the whole stadium to be full. It was great to be part of the 86000 present and the match didn't disappoint. When it started it was a bit drab but after the first goal it started to slowly get exciting. Being a fan of both teams I was surprised at the number of Man United fans which seemed to outnumber the LA Galaxy The negative part was the organization of he return shuttle. There was ambiguity on where the queue started leading to many just pushing in and others just walking, and walking all the way to the back of e line . Took nearly 2 hrs to get onto the shuttle. Being mid week the extra time required was inconvenient.

  • Horrible Parking

by Anonymous on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

This needs to be organized better. We got to the freeway off ramp at 7:15 and were not parked until 9:00. There has to be a better way to do this- we missed half the game because of the ineptitude of the people who were in charge of parking. The Rose Bowl is already hard to get into, especially on a weeknight when everyone is arriving at the same time after leaving work. I've been to the stadium over 100 times before and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. Events should not be held at the Rose Bowl during the week if this is how parking is going to be managed. Please find a better solution, and if you're going to be so bad at what you do, don't charge 30 dollars for it.

  • by Nita96 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

Overall I loved the game and plus we got perfect seats to watch the whole game . We could literally see the players faces that's how close we were . Thank you rose bowl for a wonderful game you put on for the people

  • Home away from home!

by Jaywalker on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 4 out of 5

Having moved to LA from Manchester, UK 12yrs ago I haven't had the chance to go watch my team play as much as I liked. Being able to see them on this side of the pond was amazing! Great result! Great Venue! HOWEVER.....very disappointed that Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez did not play despite being heavily promoted on billboards, newspaper flyers and twice being mentioned online that he would be there.

  • worst seats

    by pancho01 on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 1 out of 5

FOR FUTURE EVENTS DO NOT SELL ROWS (H, J, K, L, M). FROM OUR SEATS WE COULD NOT SEE THE GAME BEACUSE EVERYONE ON THE FRONT ROWS WERE STANDING DURING THE GAME, I TOLD THEM VERY POLITELY MANY TIME TO SIT DOWN BUT THEY ANSWERED BACK WITH OBSCENE LANGUAGE, THEY DID NOT CARE THAT A HAD MY 10 YEAR OLD SON PRESENT. I COMPLAINT TO THE SECURITIES AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NO DO ANYTHING THEN I WENT TO THE GUEST SERVICES AND COMPLAINT AND THEY DID NOT DO ANYTHING EITHER. I WAS VERY UPSET THAT WE HAD TO LEAVE DURING HALFTIME. VERY UNPLEASANT TIME FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY.

  • Manchester United vs. Galaxy

by AVClan on 7/26/14Rose Bowl - PasadenaRating: 3 out of 5

A rare treat to see Manchester United in the U.S. but L.A. really needs a state of the art stadium - the Rose Bowl is a great venue once a year / get the tradition, beyond that need an NFL team in town to support events like this.
