LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

  • You're not in Seattle anymore...

by Angmac77 on 7/6/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 3 out of 5

I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming the Galaxy fans were to opposing team fans :-). Met some really terrific people! But being used to home matches with the Sounders it was lacking in overall energy from a crowd perspective... We still had a great time! Then headed across the street to a great spot called Banana's for the best tacos in the world!

  • Great seat but...

Great seaTs for the game. I didn't like that we had to move for the fireworks. It took away from the hype.

  • LA Galaxy vs FC Toronto

I was given these tickets as a gift from my AYSO team for coaching this past season and I could not have asked for a better gift. Home Depot Center is as much a Soccer Cathedral as it is a stadium. The best venue you will ever see a professional soccer match in. And the fans!!! The Galaxy fans are just intense, but fun. The Angel City Brigade never did sit down during the entire match. LA Riot squad wasn't too far behind them and it warms my heart to see that the Galaxians, the original fan group from Pasadena is still at the game's sitting in area 51. And the game itself was thrilling. The Galaxy yielded a tying goal in the match's final moments and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. But my wife, two sons, and I had a wonderful evening. You can't go wrong with a Galaxy match!!!

I thought it was soo great! The game was awesome, the stadium was amazing, I loved how they shot fireworks from the ground while singing the national anthem. I also loved all the fans. I am such a huge soccer fan so to be around people who get as into the game as I do felt great! Me and my friend drove 11 hours from Salt Lake City, Utah to go to an LA Galaxy game and I'm sure we will be doing it again!

  • Awesome Family Time

by LDS46 on 6/13/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

Attending a LA Galaxy is a real family affair, from us as grand parents to our 8 year old grand daughter. So appreciate the involvement of children in the program. The Galaxy show how fun it is to play soccer and are encouraging children to participate on their own level.

  • LA Galaxy: exciting match and great moment

by AGAOMM on 6/13/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

As a European, I was curious to watch a soccer game in the US. Living in LA, I chose to watch the Galaxy, of course. And a great opportunity to see Beck' live! Result: 4 goals, a nice game, Beck' and Donovan playing the whole game, so a really great time for a beautiful Saturday night. The stadium is great, you can see perfectly the field from everywhere. One bad point, but a real real bad point: leaving the parking lot at the end of the game. A nightmare. It took me nearly 30 minutes. And I am a patient guy... Except that, a very good experience!

The level of play was sub-par. I'm from Belgium so I'm used to watching crappy football games. Beckham can play at that level until he's 85. Don't get me wrong, I had fun though. Funny to see the Americanos giving tifo/ultras a run. First time I had to go thru a metal detector at a football match and believe me I've been to some stadiums around Europe.

  • great road trip

by Anonymous on 6/5/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

When the Galaxy and Chivas USA have back to back weekend home games it makes the trip from Arizona worth a weekend drive. This is our second year in a row and both teams gave a strong effort this past weekend. The MLS is great for families, and I think the teams should market these weekends to cities like San Diego and Phoenix with package deals. The Torrance Marriott in South Bay is also a very soccer friendly place for fans to gather and have drinks together before attending the big games.

  • Very loud music, cannot enjoy the game

by Gaborka on 5/26/11Galaxy - Home Depot Stadium - CarsonRating: 1 out of 5

Attended the my 1st and last game of the Galaxy. As soonest we entered the stadium we were subjected to very loud non stop music. It was non stop and lasted thru the game . It was ear plitting andno way you could enjoy the game. There were many middle age folks in attendance and I am sure they felt the same way. Unless they stop playing the loud music I will not attend any more games. I came away with a royal headache!!!

  • The Galaxy were Awesome!!!!!!!!

by thesaint44 on 5/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I came from the UK to watch David Beckham play for the Galaxy, and we were not disappointed. The pre match atmosphere was brilliant with lots of entertainment on and off the pitch. David Beckham delivered one of his famous free-kicks which capped off an awesome experience. Car parking was very smooth and access to the freeway post game was very quick.

  • good time

by Anonymous on 5/18/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

The soccer match between LA and Kansas City was very enjoyable. Both teams played well. The players from LA ended it well by giving thanks to the fans that cheered them on as they won their game. Beckham is a great showman with his grins and glares he gives to players and fans. Overall it was a great time and anyone that enjoys soccer would have enjoyed it.

by soccerfamily4 on 5/16/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I decided to go to LA Galaxy game to celebrate my birthday and It was so much fun that we decided to go once a month from now on. Office Depot stadium is not as big as baseball field so where ever you seat, view is amazing. We sat 4 row from the field and view was great. Crowd was great and lot of family with there kids in soccer uniform as memoriable. If they had a bette halftime show it would have been perfect.

  • A great Galaxy game!

The seats were perfect! Close to the action and amongst the best fans... and we purchased them the day of the game on our iphone while in Death Valley! A perfect last minute decision!

  • Better than TV

by Girrrl on 5/10/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

If you think that these guys look good on TV, wait till you see them live! They showed their skills and I saw Donovan make a Goooooooal! And the fans were cheering the whole time, that's the way to watch soccer.

  • Good Game

by josee6123 on 5/10/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

The game was boring at first until Henry scored a goal in the first three minutes of the game. After that goal came in the intensity rose and the fans enjoyed every second of the game.

I'm from WA state and was in town visiting my son for Mother's Day. As a HUGE Sounders fan, (and soccer fan in general) I thought it would be fun to watch other MLS teams play. I'd been looking forward to this game for weeks! SO nice not to be disappointed!! It was an exciting, action packed game and my son and I had a BLAST! And what a thrill to watch Beckham live :-) Would do it again in a heartbeat.
