LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

  • Great experience that everyone will enjoy!

by Lcantos on 9/11/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

I've been to several galaxy games but more just recently and the reason why I make the almost two hour drive to the games is because the crowd is amazing and a great family environment an to be honest there is not one bad seat in the house so you can still have a very good experience fir a 15 dollar ticket. Don't take my word for it and just go you will have a good time and 98% chance that the galaxy will win because they are very good.

  • The White Curtain

by PTVoice on 8/30/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

I took my family to the game and as usual it was really fun. I really appreciate being able to bring my whole family to the event. The Galaxy defense was great! The white curtain. I want to thank the staff because while walking back from buying some tacos, I dropped them (just being a klutz). A few staff came and got me some new ones. Thanks!!! Too bad more people didn't attend and enjoy the event.

  • Beckham was amazing

Our seats were great. The weather perfect. The game was exciting. Sitting next to the Riot squad was a whole new experience. Beckham played the whole game! The reffing was terrible and Galaxy played above it. We came in from New Mexico just for the game and it was worth it. We cant wait for the next game that we can sneak off for.

  • the Galaxy were Grand

by Soldier1122 on 8/23/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

Despite the opposing teams dirty cheers the game was exciting. Robbie Keane was amazing, Beckham was energetic, and Donovan was a good sport. the game was exciting from start to finish. It was my first professional soccer match ever. I would go again, but sit away from the opposing team's cheer section.

  • 1st half was amazing!!!

by BenJay on 8/23/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

The 1st half of the LA Galaxy game was amazing non stop attacking end to end stuff. Robbie keane had a great debute for LA then after so many chances he got 1 and the crowed went mental! Much different from a game back home in Scotland. 2nd half wasn't as good n me n my partner were falling asleep from jet lag as we just flew in that day. Then LA got a last min goal and the crowed was bouncing again! Good way to finish off a great game! So glad I went!

It would be nice if opposing teams cheering section didn't use the f word or their middle finger in cheers when it is a family event with children present, otherwise we had great fun.

The game was awesome, the fans were equally awesome. Galaxy played great and won the game. Had GA seats and that was the best choice by far, as we were sitting right next to the field. Overall, was a great first night in Cali, would do it again next time I'm on the west coast.

  • LA Galaxy Game Rocked!

by BigDaddyVez on 8/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

Took my boys to their first MLS game and got to see Sir David Beckham and the LA Galaxy beat San Jose. The venue was great. Easy to park and we got out in less than 10 min after the game. The crowd was into the game and definitely luv the Galaxy. The play was sublime and crazy soccer skills were shown the whole game. My boys were impressed and Dad was the hero of the night. Mission accomplished...

  • Welcome to Hollywood Mr. Keane!

by Anonymous on 8/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

I am a big soccer fan but not MLS or LA Galaxy in particular though. It was my first in Home Depot Center. Fans were really friendly and passionate. Robbie Keane had his debut game. Totally worth going if you are a soccer fan.

  • Slow but Fun

by AdamDy on 8/17/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

From the UK and used to Premiership. Rather pedestrian in comparison but a really enjoyable match. Beckham still stands out from the crowd as a player. Loved the national anthem with fireworks at end. Shame there wasn't a full house for what was a top of the table clash.
