LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

  • Great Galaxy Game

by GoldenRetriever on 11/5/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

The Galaxy are such a poised team and whereas many teams lose control when made angry, the Galaxy get smarter and play even harder. This was the case as the NY Red Bulls dominated the beginning of the game. It took a cheap shot yellow card from the Red Bulls and a lucky goal early on, but the Galaxy came back with double the intensity and desire to win for one of the most exciting games this year.

by Jimi12 on 10/3/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

Great time in a full stadium as the Galaxy staged a come from behind win to inch closer to the Supporter's Shield. The Home Depot staff is great and a friendly crowd ensures everyone has a good time. It always helps when its a win!

The atmosphere is fantastic. The soccer is not really world class, but it's competitive and the best you'll get in the states. But give me a choice between a soccer match and a baseball game, I'll choose soccer every time. And I LOVE baseball.

  • awesome teams!

Not very exciting game and Beckham was not playing.

  • Worst seats ever

by RosieSB on 10/2/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 1 out of 5

Did NOT like the fact that there were not assigned seats for the tickets I bought. I paid 40+dollars for each ticket and I was sat all the way on the top rows. This was extremely disappointing. The section stated on the tickets were ignored by the staff and we were sat in another section. This will be the last time I will purchasing tickets to this kind of event.

  • Worst night ever!

by Bushside on 10/2/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 1 out of 5

Went to LA Galaxy v Morelia, hoping to see Beckham or Keane, neither were playing! Eventually got to the stadium after a 3 subways and a bus, no one ever mentioned it was in one of the worst areas of LA. Came out after the game (stadium not even half full), darkness, no buses, no direction from anyone. Scared beyond belief. You read about the LA gangs in Compton and we were right beside that area! Managed to stumble upon a taxi who advised us not to go back the way we came as the area was "unsafe". He dropped us off at a well lit subway platform (thank god for him). The team don't cater for their fans, no taxi rank, buses to subway station, etc.. My advice if you want to go to a game is to hire a car so you can leave straight away! Only good thing was LA won, scored the winner in extra time. Also the seats, ticket said GA1 which meant open seating, pick a free seat anywhere in a certain section! If i'm ever in LA again, I won't be going to a match!

Always great to see a home win, but the team needs to kick it into another gear if they want to be in the 2011 Cup Final...

  • Wow, just wow
